    He said similar about Nuttall.

Why would Everton's under 23's manager be watching Alex Reid and Joe Nuttall?

(Yes, this is a rhetorical question that I already know the answer to)

Apart from Joe Nuttall played in PL2 for Blackburn against DU's Everton teams, scored 14 goals and was nominated for player of the season in 2017/18, so he has seen him before and will know a bit about him.....

He was far more critical of the performances and Unsworth in general. If I recall correctly, but don’t quote me on this, Matt supported the view that we should be seeing incremental improvements week on week. Questioned the formation Unsworth was playing and highlighted that there appears to be no strategy to our play.
If you compare those words to him saying we need to give Unsworth time it just doesn’t add up and shows a clear change in opinion / viewpoint.
Like I said, not a criticism Matt is more than entitled to change his view or have his own opinion. But there seems to have been a change pre and post the interview and people have pointed it out is all.

He's still critical of performances, he still thinks we should be seeing improvements (and accepts we've not been), he still questions the formation/substitutions, but he's reacting to some of the negativity by pointing out we all have a role to play if we want our club to do well. Supporter actions aren't without consequences too. We've been in fight mode for so long, it is many supporters' default setting. We no longer need to fight, so what do we do? Call for the manager's head, boo the players and sign Johnny Sheridan songs, or recognise the longer term thinking we've been crying our for is happening, get behind them and trust the owners/board to make the right decisions? That's all we're doing this week is debating that point.

Mate of mine is an Ipswich fan. I've talked to him about Edmunson and Burgess and how I thought George was better than Cameron. He couldn't be clearer that the opposite is now true. He reckons Burgess is their best CB and George is a liability who is in and out of the team.

  4. We haven't exited the FA Cup in the 4th Qualifying round since 1905/06. We've got to travel to the Deva Stadium on Tuesday to try to avoid the ignominy again. We discuss the performance and round up the week's news.

Just upto about 26 minutes 2 things I've picked up as someone who works in finance.

Firstly the fact that the banks weren't reconciled for years sounds very amateurish on the surface. But as someone who does this on a daily basis their maybe abit more to it were they not reconciled to the penny or they just not matching correctly I.e. you had some unidentified cash or liabilities that have come in the bank and how far out were they. Or was it they literally hadn't been touched because if its the later then that is shocking.

Secondly did I hear that right that Shahed thinks that the 882k is a VAT bill because again that doesn't make sense if the club consistently loses money again as someone who does quarterly VAT returns you really only pay HMRC back if you are taking more money in than you are paying out?

The £882k contingent liability is as a result of the 2017 HMRC raid and relates to VAT on the disposal of the North Stand (from OAFC to Brassbank). Shahed thinks it will get wiped as the disposal should be treated as non-VATable. Thanks Barry (allegedly), for wasting precious time and resource, again!

On the court case, from what I understood, Shahed seems to think there's a case to answer because the club put money toward building the stand via council payments. And that the condition of those payments (£700k and £1.1m totalling £1.8m) was that the club would retain ownership of the stand unless written permission was given by the council for it to transfer ownership.  Am I right in terms of the explanation of the £1.8 million? That the club wasn't given £1.8 million toward the stand, it was given £700k toward the stand and the rest of the money was a reimbursement of what Blitz/the club had lost in the Lancaster club situation?

Hi Owen, (It's Andy, I've just switched accounts) yes, my understanding is as you've described it. The only bit that is still marginally ambiguous to me.... and would require a conversation directly with Simon Blitz (we would like him to come on the pod) & his lawyer, is why the £1.1m (if it was indeed compensation/reimbursement for costs associated with the Lancaster club) was made available directly to the club and not paid directly to Brassbank (which is where the land money was sent). Does this suggest that it was OAFC that paid for the costs - feasibility studies, architects etc - for Failsworth, as opposed to Brassbank? If yes, then everything adds up and the current legal action from the club could realistically only hope to recover a max of £700k, as far as I see it.

  9. Shahed Alam was the Finance Director of the Football Club from Aug 2019 until October 2021. Shahed & his brother Tanvir were employed by Abdallah to come into the club and clean up the mess he inherited from the previous owner. In this feature length bonus interview episode we cover the following topics with Shahed;

    - The state of the accounts

    - North stand ownership, the OEC and the court case

    - The EFL loan

    - Abdallah, Mohamed & Barry

    - What the future might hold

  11. A tough game at promotion chasing Port Vale ended in defeat but a good fighting effort by the team meant it was a close thing at 3-2. Off the field, we look ahead to what our options are as a fan base as relegation stares us in the face and the owners appear to be no closer to reaching a deal to sell the club - this really is our destiny calling.

Have you spoken with the FLG. It would be interesting to know their current views / state of play on the North Stand situation. Do they still have a desire to purchase the Stand and eventually, via a proposed share issue, the whole stadium?

What is the situation with 3rd party shares that they were offered some time ago?

A chat with Brooke, Wood & Whitehead could be interesting as the initial plans all seem to have petered out!

Perhaps you could use your influence to get them on a BPAS podcast?

Yes, we've had contact and Simon Brooke has agreed to appear on the podcast, however we are yet to agree a date with him.

Yes - they’ve already reached out to the club,

Karl is on record to say he wouldn’t be keen after the Royton Cricket Club evening

And whilst I’m not too sure on the French or Arabic for “get knotted” I’m fairly certain he would say it

Never say never. We're working to a plan and we'd like to talk to lots of people including the owner & his brother.

    Whose the next guest ?

We've got 2 scheduled to take place shortly..... with 3 other invitations out with dates to be agreed. On occasion we'll announce who we're interviewing prior to the interview so supporters can pose their question, on other occasions you'll find out at 7am on a Monday.

But suffice to say, we're working to a plan and we have lot of people we want to talk to. We'll also keep to the structure of fan guests on some/alternate weeks too, so if any supporter who has a burning desire to share their views, especially if they believe their views to be different to those aired to date, we would encourage them to get in touch.

I have only begun listening to this podcast this week and I have to say fantastic work, I was so out of touch with the goings on at the club as its difficult to follow not living in the area, I have listened to the latest three and now working from the start of the season every morning.

Tears do fears had me almost in tears with you mate the emotion and the feeling I remember having at that time and agreed exactly what you were saying at the time.

    Keep up the good work

Thanks for your kind words LL. We're hoping the ground we're covering - there is much more to come - will ignite a few flames and who knows where that will take us.....

This is really good stuff, thanks for doing it, I think you're achieving your goal of balance, not aggressive but not backing off with important questions either.

Thanks marhar. Appreciate you listening and taking the time to comment. We all want the club to be stable, secure and therefore able to compete. We're motivated by talking about the issues we face in an attempt to bring people together & find solutions.

We've loads more lined up. More interviews with people who directly or indirectly affect the club & more post match conversation amongst fans. I would encourage anybody who feels they have a point of view they don't believe has been aired or discussed on the pod to date, to get in touch. We want as many different opinions and voices to be heard as possible.

So I’ve listened Matt, and firstly I thought you came across really well. Thoughtful, balanced, and challenged when and where you could. Karl was more open and honest than I thought, (in part to your style) and left plenty of space to read between the lines without getting himself sacked.

I would just ask you this, at the end you said ‘I’m excited about the future’ and I genuinely couldn’t get my head around that. Did you mean it in a  ‘without hope what is there’ kinda of way. Or do you really believe the tide is turning? And if so- in what way?

Thank you LOF, I appreciate the comments.

I'm excited because I genuinely feel there is a groundswell of support amongst the fanbase to do something positive and to make a difference.

Every episode has been a really good listen. Even when things have appeared to be “quiet” off the field you’ve never struggled to fill an episode and keep it interesting. It’s also really professionally put together. Fair play to Karl for coming on again. I wasn’t his biggest fan with some of his Twitter antics but it was good to see him give two hours of his time to chat to you and answer most of the questions.

Thank you B4E, really appreciate your kind words. We've got plenty more lined up, so make sure you keep listening and like & share in your social media platform of choice.

If he thinks that taking soundings on a badge will placate the mob he must be distantly related to Marie Antoinette.

I don't think he thinks that per se. I think he might've hoped Abdallah's interview, the interview from Barry and one from Paul Murray, coupled with the kit and badge fan engagement he tried, to have had some positive effect. This is where I think he's underestimated the strength of feeling.

The thread below is worth a read if you haven't already, we've had some greats guests on previous episodes including Kieran MaGuire, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kieran_Maguire, Tony Carss, Neil Kilkenny, representatives whom were heavily involved in the fight to save their own clubs, from Stockport, Leyton Orient & Bury, the Chair and Vice Chair & Board representative of our own Trust, as well as the regular contributors. Over the coming weeks we will have more interviews with invited guests and will let supporters know in good time, so you can pose your questions, as well as the usual post match debate from regular and new fans.

Don't worry, it wasn't taken that way. I was merely pointing to the fact he could reasonably claim to have achieved some of the things he said he would do in his first interview.... but as you say & as I tried to convey (maybe not very well) above, he'd underestimated the strength of feeling & was therefore surprised by how little difference it made.
