  1. That was some night .... Nick Henry scoring the worldie ( My all time favourite player) Stitch with that bullet header and Rhodes with that magnificent save  after Andy Barlow tried to backheel it away. Irwin and Milligan/Henry were unbeatable that night. Got home and watched it again on midweek soccer special. Thats the night we became everyones favourite underdog and the nations second team (Unless you were a red). The real beginning of the pinch me seasons.

  2. Back to the match !!

I thought we improved as the game went on, however I turned to my mate after the couple of early chances went begging and said .... 20-25 mins they will have one shot and score ... and lo .... thans to the ref they had their one shot... and scored. Once we were in chasing the game more I felt the frustration as we were keeping possesion and passing without probing. I thought Reid was having a bit of a mare but as he was about to be replaced he bangs one in (did what hes paid for). I wasnt surprised when Norwood was subbed, he was quite innafective. Willoughby did well but didnt do what he was paid for by not scoring and Fondop was ok and almost scored with his first kick .... I wasnt pleased with the result but I wasnt upset either ....... Boong Shelton on to a football pitch is plain stupid ... its just ... stupid ... booing at full time for no reason ... well I just cant imagine what makes you tick

  3. I will say this about the penalty ... the ball struck his arm because he was fouled/pushed ... their player right next to him didnt appeal (along with all the other players) no flag from asst ref .... Hope got up expecting a free kick....... Now watch the highlights again ... there is absolutely no way in the world the ref saw that .... he was 15-20 yards away. What in the name of all gods fuckery was he doing placing the ball on the centre circle with a dance ....... look at me ..... look at me. I kinda hoped someone filmed it so someone could sent it to the governing body. He should never referee anywhere again...... if that wasnt enough Green gets chopped and he awards them a free kick .... then the throw in debacle. I would say that we win that with a different referee.

Willoughby was sat in the stadium at another NL club ready to sign for them (presumably on loan) when Steve Thompson phoned him to say he was starting against York the following day...

I find this a bit disturbing ... is this really how we treat our new 'marquee' signing. He hasnt really had a chance !!

  5. We need him playing with a smile on his face ... but on several occasions this season he has been in the position to tap it in and didnt receive the pass required. Goals change games and its those moments of unselfishness that win games for clubs that play like a team. This is one of the main reasons we are where we are, thunderbastards from Dickenson, Green and Sheron are not the norm and the sublime finish from Hope are the norm in the premier leaugue ... that is not where we are ..... these opportunities need to be taken. The more Norwood is left in sulk mode the less games we win.

  6. Last night was my sons first away match .... he had been looking forward to it for weeks now .....  from 1-11 it was just awful to watch. Making Shelton a scapegoat is the easy thing to do but christ on a bike. Lets start with the positives !!

We got in the car park !

    Double whopper was good !

    Starbucks Latte was good !

Game was shite ... players were shite ..... the scoreline was shite .... 5 outfield players were more shite than Shelton, who was shite. There were one or two melts in the crowd baying for blood and hurling personal abuse at the players which was shite ... So overall it was shite. Then after finally getting out of the car park ..... they closed every exit feasable to prevent us getting home ... and after the 50min journey turned to 2 hours .. they had the audacity to close Rochdale Rd as well ..... which as you may have guessed was shite. My sons verdict on the whole thing was it was shite. My plans for another awayday have gone to shite ...... oh and finally getting diverted all over Garstang and Salford when you are bursting for a pee after being in M555 traffic for what seemed like hours .... is SHITE !

  7. I wanted Clarke as I think he was the stand out candidate, Im still on the fence with ST but Tuesdays performance has nothing to do with that. Since he took the reins we have had back to back games with limited training so not a great deal of time to make a difference in that respect. There were several games under Rhino that we failed to score or create decent chances. This appeares to be 'fixed' and have scored in every game of his tenure. The smaller or part time teams seem to raise their game when they come to BP so the falicy that we should destroy them is just that .. a falicy. We have played plenty in the FA cup and struggled quite often. We do though look leggy after 60 mins and thats still concerning or are we slowing the game down deliberately to help Dickenson and Green. I thought Sutton had an excellent first half on Tuesday but he was still being targeted as the 'weakness' . Reid is doing well after not really getting a sniff and Norwood will bag as soon as we work out how we get the ball to him right (and he isnt dropping tp the half way line to get the ball).

I wont pretend to know what the answer is but I think we could do worse than ST and could probablly do better. Those who predict we will make the play offs but wont win ??? could they tell me what fridays Euromillions numbers are ??. Were a couple of points off the top 7 and will be playing one or two this month.. win them it looks different  and will feel different to the players and supporters alike. Its a bit like if we win ST in  if we lose or draw the sky fall in and twitter and here do the best chicken little impressions ever.

Ladt but by no means least ... leave it out with the booing for Shelton(nee Nuttall) FFS were all aware that he isnt the reincarnation of Jose or Byrne but he is a Latics player and shouldnt be booed on to a pitch before he kicks a ball. He scored a couple last season .... did you not cheer when it went in ? if you did, how dare you.

  8. This is my best Latics story ... I was supposed to be working and was in work at 11.30 as usual ..... I bought a coffee from the machine drank half then emptied some cornflakes and branflakes into the half full cup and waited ubtil 11:50 threw the contants of the cup into my mouth ....... then threw it up on my nearest colleage. Naturally I was sent home and as planned the van taking us to the match pulled up outside to take us to sheffield. I was worth the stick I got off my colleague who had to drive home to change. They were sportingly chanting 0-5 like they were winning.

  9. Fortress Boundary Park huh

I am not nor have I ever been a football coach/manager, nor played the game anywhere outside my local park. I have watched for 50 years though and Im going to say that I felt like I had the piss taken when I saw the team. The heat was stifling and we have a 33YO ploughing alone up front. I look at the bench and see 4 Strikers and a defender... no other options. 5 4 1 against Dorking. Not great first half but also not bad ... we kept the ball until the final third then forgot how to pass. Dorking helped by constantly surrendering possesion. Second half the Dorking defence were knackered I expected Reid ...nope on came Fondop no change in formation really ..... When Dorking 'scored' I sat down and never stood back up... I didnt even know it had been disallowed until a couple of mins after. I hoped and prayed that this would work .... it isnt and it wont we have used just as many players this season as last season... we dont have a recognised formation (used at least 4-5 in 8 games) and just as last year we have players not playing in their natural positions. I really cannot see anything from the Bromley game and I am dreading the two home games next week, but I will be there supporting. I was a give it time lad... not so much anymore

  10. I am not one baying for his head, nor am I happy with the performances (Aldershot aside). Would I be upset if he goes? No. Would I be devastated if he doesnt ? No. I do think that some of his pre season hype (Winning machine, promotion, fittest team etc) did him little favour in that everyone bought into it. Recruitment seemed solid and the was positivity and expectation encouraged. Pre season seemed to go ok and then... reality.

I hope it changes and I hope we are there abouts in the post Xmas fixtures. Am I convinced? Nope. Is it possible? Yes. I think the question is is it probable?

Tbh, I think anyone of us on here could have this squad in and around the play-offs and do I expect Unsworth to get us into the play-offs as a minimum (should they keep him that long). Whether finishing 7th is seen as a success, I don't know but i'd expect the club to spin it as a success even if we lost in the play-offs in order to keep him for another season at least. My opinion is, we should  have a proper challenge for the title and if we fell short and ultimately got beat in the play-offs i'd accept that. I don't really buy into the argument he must be given time regardless and it's not the end of the world if we don't go up yet. The longer you stay down in this league, the harder it gets. The teams that come down next year and every year after will have an advantage over us in terms of solidarity payments and then there are always sides on the up throwing money at it (think Forest Green, Fleetwood, Salford, Harrogate etc.) It won't be that long before Macclesfield and Bury will be back at this level so the task will get harder with every passing year. We need to make the most of what we have now, the crowds won't stay at 7,000 plus if we stagnate, we saw that, staying in league 1 for over 20 years. I've said it numerous times but for me if we are not top 5 come October he should be shown the door although i'd happily see him gone tonight.

Really ....... I mean really ... I wouldnt want the responsibility

  12. So .... sliding doors style ...... we get the penalty and score (1 point) possibly three, ref blows for a foul on Hogan we win 0-1 at chesterfield .. giving us 4 extra points puts us joint 5th .... and just for the crack Nuttalls push on the Adlershot defender knocks off the goal and we win 4-1 ..... how would we justify the massive pissboil ? asking for a friend.
