We played really well. Very disappointing result. To be so dominant and not win the game is frustrating. We need to be cleverer to get over the line...

Played very well and should've been able to see that game out.

Don't know what Raglan was doing for their first? Waiting for the ref to blow??

Was it a pen  for them? Either way, you can't let someone burst into your area like that and not expect to be in trouble.

Liked that formation and line up even if it took a while to sink in that McGahey was right back and Lundstrum was on the right.

  2. Didn't have the Internet in our house until about 2006!

Could only look at Latics sites on the Internet occasionally at college and work but do remember the Canada site. Wasn't there an official message board as well around 2005/2006?

Think I must have joined this forum fairly soon after it's inception and mad to think that was 17/18 years ago! Wasted a lot of time on this site at one point getting incredibly wound up by people like Oafc0000 and Corporal Jones.

But there's been a lot of good posts and posters too over the years which has made this a top site and still something I look at fairly regularly. Well done to Matt and the admins.

  3. Typical Latics.

You're sat 1 nil up at home watching us play Exeter, up to 5th in the 'as it stands ' table...thinking that 'we aren't possibly going to lose against these' and 'get something out of the Carlisle and Vale games and will be cementing ourselves in the top'...

    Well.....

I would be bold enough to say the ecstatic reaction in the Chaddy End at Matt Smith's equaliser against Everton was right up there with that when Redfearn got the winner against Sheff Wednesday.

Been going on and off since 88, but unfortunately didn't get taken to the Sheff Weds match!

However the Smith goal vs Everton was, for me, a real stand-out moment. I think the atmosphere created by us in the 20 mins or so before Smith scored was something I'd not seen at a home game for a long long time, if ever before. And when the goal came, to me it felt like the fans had really played a part in spurring the team on and getting us back on terms. I'd never really liked The Great Escape chant but it was great how it went on and on and on.

Biggest league away following I've been part of was probably Wigan away in the Dowie era. Nearly 4k? Other than that probably the cup game at Anfield a few years ago.

  5. We hit a bad run of form just at the wrong time. But we deserved to go down.

Needed a bit of steel in the team but unlucky with injuries to Gerrard etc.

Not sure about the new owner. We seem to just be a shop window for loads of foreign players. Hope AL proves me wrong. Not sure I blame Wellens - we've got a squad of about 50 but just who did he a actually sign himself?

Luck has run out this time.

  6. Sad day. Grew up with the Chron in our house.

I was smiling to myself the other day when my nine year old was reading up on Latics in the Chron whilst having his supper, just as I did as a 9 year old back in 1990. Only the stories were usually more interesting back then!

Gutted for the staff. Thought Matt Chambers was a top reporter. How many miles must he have done this last 12 years following Latics?!

  7. It's a shame that this EU referendum seems to have, for many, been one big protest against immigration on one side and perceived Tory anti-socialist values on the other.

For me one of the only politician who's been true and honest in all this is Corbyn and now he's getting it more than anyone. His problem is he's too honest.

  8. Output in the Euro zone is at the same level as in 2006. This is not the case for the US, China, India, Nigeria, Brazil, Australia and in fact pretty much everywhere else. I call this stagnation, am I wrong? Do you foresee it changing any time soon?

Re: the Euro, it is more my opinion. I just can't see how it's sustainable for Germany to keep on growing but not seeing the benefits other than in IOUs from the countries they send their goods to. Each rescue makes the final endgame even bigger. But maybe there will be a solution.

    Ze final solution ya?

  9. Never really been much of a fan of SPOTY, but I've registered to vote and will try to remember to vote for him when the show starts. The game of Rugby League and its players deserve more recognition. Won't be watching SPOTY though. Not my cup of tea.

But town's most famous son? I would say Mark Owen perhaps....?
