  1. I have never seen Chris O'Grady put in a bad shift for us. Has never been given a chance. Tactically he would be ideal for us now, with no midfield an Pav out. Go long for Chris to hold the ball up and let others come into play. He might even get the odd goal or 5.

I want Dave Penney to be given a chance, at least another year, but O'grady on loan and Hills in preference to Black make we wonder.

  2. Great weekend and performance from latics fans. If the players players were half as good as us we would be in the play off places at least.

It was great to see Carrow Road a true football club. Norwich don't have competition from the Priemership clubs in the same way as us so maybe it is easier for them. The last time I went past Carrow Road it was surrounded by terraced houses. The council have obviously regenerated the area as Oldham Council could have done around Boundary Park. At the end of the day Oldham Council are an albotross around the neck of Oldham Athletic and almost every resident of this town.

  3. Ok. Not sure if you're saying that we should have kept him longer, or that we should try and get him now or something else?

Why is he scoring now? He's find a rhythm? He's getting better service? walsall tactics suit him better than those under DP or Shez?

I think many strikers would struggle at Latics at present because the service isn't as good as it should be.

Agreed, its not a good situation to blood the kids in, it could wreck their careers particularly if the BP moaners get onto them

  4. I'm not having a go at you, but I just want to say it comes down to the simple choice we have, if we don't keep the faith (or indeed blind faith) then there will be no Oldham Athletic. And I ask the question to everyone, is that what we want? Because if it is, we make the choice to all pack it up and the club will disappear. No income through the turnstiles = No Club.

Its not about having a go at me, I will be there on Saturday, away at Walsall at Norwich etcc........... The facts are that enough die hards are weakening in their support, to cause grave concern that the fan base is eroding. I just hope that we can look back on the sacking of Shez, the demolition of the Lookers and the move to Failsworth as master strokes.

  5. We have had the inevitable loss of the glory seeking fans who only turn up when the going is good. Unfortunately we now have serious die hards, long standing season ticket holders and travelling away fans questioning why they should attend. As much as we would like to smile and happy clap we cannot escape the fact that the match experience at BP is dire and has been for the last season. Brighton made more chances in the first half at Southampton yesterday than I have seen latics create at BP in the the last 3 matches at least. The type of football makes each match seem like Groudhog Day, apart from Milton Keynes they all blurr into one big bore.

The ground move to Failsworth is another major irritant to many.

Yes Keep The Faith, but lets hope it doesn't turn into Blind Faith, there are too few willing to Keep that.

  6. I dont like Leeds but...

Minutes silence - Was people coming in

Time wasting - What do people expect? Thats what good succesful teams do. Its about being clever. The ref was to blame for not getting on top of it, if he lets them off with it, they'll keep doing it. I would have.

Any Defence to put forward on point 2

  7. to be fair there we laos a lot of leeds fans i heard sohuting at them to shut up!

but the minority that did sing are an embarassment to this country

I always thought that this "Scum" thing was a bit of banter born out of football rivalry.

Tonight they proved it is true on three counts:

Too many of them disrupting the minutes silence , not just the odd nutter

Coach loads of them banging on the coach windows abusing any innocent happening to be walking to the game minding their own business

The time wasting compunded by Beckford's cynical smirk.

The cancer runs through the club, on the pitch and off. Let them get promoted and languish in the Championship, but hopefully never in the Premiership again

  8. The argument about property devaluation is ficticious. I bought and sold a house within 5 minutes walk of BP ,the football ground was never mentioned by vendors purchasers or estate agents. In theory many latics fans may be looking for property near the ground, on reflection I think not,the problem is not the ground, but Failsworth. Even in the premiership days the inconvenience was minor, we didn't spend our days moaning about a minor irritation.

Anyway I don't want us to move to Failsworth.

I was going past Warrington Rugby League ground recently and thought what a good site, right in the heart of the town. Why don't we move somewhere close to town, near the bypass e.g. where the Alexander Retail Park is, surely that could only enhance the area.

  9. There was a police car with a couple of coppers in parked on the top of Holden Fold where it meets with Broadway. It was raining though so cock all chance of them getting out and doing anything.

I've asked coppers stood around before at the Broadway junction why they don't direct the traffic, apparently they are not covered if something happens. No doubt they would be able to put a report in at the inquest, it is only a matter of time before someone gets knocked down.

  10. like has been said elswhere,a lot of people are falling out of love with latics now more so than ever.

i think if you did a real survey of the majority in oldham, they wouldnt give a toss if there was a club or not,its just the die hards nowadays, and those are becoming dissilusioned.

i really cant be bothered this season, money was a big factor at the beginning, but not any more,i just dont enjoy going to bp seeing adject performances by people highly paid to entertain, and for a premium price on top,in a :censored: hole of a ground where ya have to wipe bird :censored: off ya seat before you can sit down.

like i said i hope im wrong, but i do see this decaying stadium as a excuse to promote a new ground.

I agree,a big conern is the number of diehards still attending but rapidly entertaining thoughts of not wanting to go to BP. Product on the pitch (1 home win for how long ?) ,the lack of atmosphere, and the sorry state of the ground all combine to produce a sense of abject disollusionment for the most diehard fans.

  11. failsworth simply doesnt do that for me...no point building conferencing and hotel facilities right on the fringes of manchester which has far superior transport links etc.

the only way you will or would see a significant monetry increase if you build over 300 artificial pitches not 6 0r 7

Investment in East Manchester and Sport City will dwarf the Failsworth development which will be a huge Baby White Elephant. Remember the casino that didn't get approved, the land is still there and in time it will be re-developed.

  12. well i'd say they run the club, there are all these problems..who is to blame that:

1/there is no marketing in the club?

    2/the stadium is a dump?

3/fans are having to pay £20 to sit in that dump?

4/we are looking at a new "home" in failsworth, which is nothing more that a complete deathwish IMO.

i didn't renew my season ticket this year for the first time in 10 or so years...have i had anyone phone or write to me asking why?

no, barry rants off without thought or reason..again.

but i suppose all those stamps or phone calls cost money anyway, don't want another expenditure do they?

    Exactly.

The only contact we have had from a football club was fom Man City because my son (a Latics fan) went with his mate last year and had to join up to get in. Its called database mccccarketing.

I had to explain that we were latics fans and ther was no chance of us buying season ticket at the council house, but it looks as though we are going to move to a Manchester Counccil House anyway.

This is what we are up against, no competition for many.

  13.

I may be a one of case but i actually started supporting latics when i went to uni. I had always supported them as a kid during the glory years but not after that. When i went to uni in Lancaster i became more of a patriot of my town and supporting Latics encompassed this. Maybe it was rivalry between myself and students from other towns/cities. Students have more money than people think. I bought myself a season ticket and travelled home most weekends for matches.

You are a one OFF case, I can name you 5 students/young people that can't afford to go that were home & awayers up to the age of 16.

Barry is asking for suggestions, but most have been put forward before, putting together a package of incentives, isn't "rocket science", perhaps we are seeing the signs of desperation and Barry has been sent out by the TTA's to bang the drum. Perhaps so desparate that they will listen.

  14. There is no point encouraging kids to attend and then after they are 16 expect them to pay full price. We lose so many fans in the 17-25 age bracket that as students/young adults can't afford to attend. Once dislocated from the club the link is broken for ever.

Quite frankly my wife and I prefer to go to away matches now, but even that in this Southern based division is harder.

We have been moved from the Lookers, then decamped to the RRE and this season have moved to the main stand paddock where the facilities are decrepid.

That proves the point that we need a new ground, but where are we going? FAILSWORTH. How many fans want to move to Failsworth. Once the novelty has worn off if we think that 3,500 is bad we will be down to 2,500 without any trouble.

Over the last 12 months even the most optimistic/ardent fans are getting totally hacked off and some are voting with their feet.

  15. bite.gif

Took over two hours, fishings slow today.

As for reduced mortgages, yay! I fixed at a high rate in 2007 for 5 years, yay! I'm paying over 5% over the base rate and haven't had any extra money in my pocket which sucks balls but hey ho.

If its such a bad deal should consider paying the penalty and taking a lower rate may save you money in the long run.

The recession has been overhyped by the press that is why it is now dripping out that things aint as bad as they were made out, it is not armageddon. It has made people think about how they were budgetting which isn't a bad thing, which won't have helped season ticket sales. A proportion of those who haven't renewed ( not all ) will be the doom mongers who are also moaners at BP, so we may get an atmosphere at BP more like away games

  16. Publicly embarrassing Stefan leaves a sour taste in the mouth and is symptomatic of what has gone on this season. We have been left with a shambles and there are deep rooted problems that go beyond the dressing room. Joe hinted at it when he said that things hadn't changed since his first spell and maybe that was not alltogether a good thing.

Hopefully in time Dave Penney will be a catalyst for change throughout the club.

  17. The basic problem is that the Oldham public cannot be bothered to put their hands in their pockets to pay £20 for a one off attractive fixture say like Leeds or Peterborough at home. The same people are not going to stump up even £100 for a season ticket. Any drop in price will not result in sufficient extra sales to justify the drop in price. The problem isn't pricing just apathy. Hence the same season ticket holders less 20% fewer than last year will be asked to pay the same again.Times are hard and TTA are unfortunately between a rock and a hard place.

  18. i think a lot of us dont really want to take note,of how bad things really are,the sad thing is is that had the land deal been sorted 18months earlier when it was originally intended,we may not be in this position now,as it would be a done deal with money in the bank, and probably phase one well on the way,and guarenteed income stream becoming a reality.

i think the thought of the dark days n bucket collections frightens the lives out of most of us.

Reflecting after Saturday's defeat I felt that there are serious problems behind the scenes that have been festering all season. The hope of getting into the playoffs was all that was papering over the cracks. With that hope gone TTA are embarking on a restructuring of OAFC with Joe as the "consultant" with nothing to lose able to carry through the hard decisions. TTA must surely have realised that OAFC is a club with an incredibly loyal hard core support, but a very small supporter base. With such a small base and their limited financial resources they can never achieve their ambitions. Unless they can sell quickly and bring the resources in, we will realise our level and Oldham as a town will get the team that it can viably support

  19. The more I think about this, the more I'm furious about it. How, in the space of two months, can we go from offering the biggest pay packet at the club, to effectively releasing him barely two months later?

Why loan him out now, why not just release him at the end of the season if we can't afford him?

The club have made it clear that he is on £80,000, which equates to roundabout £1500 per week. In view of the amount TTA are losing, saving just a few grand is madness.

What happens if we get into the playoffs?

Who would anyone prefer upfront? Hughes or Smalley/Lewis?

If we get into the playoffs it would be a miracle. If that did happen we would be the form team and shouldn't be afraid of the play off games
