  1. I'm going to be a little controversial here but I believe that your penalty taker should take your penalties. It is not as though Jason knew much about the first goal of his pair. Smalleys shot deserved to take the credit for that one.

I'll give him his second... that one was almost Ronaldo'ish.

Eard's takes our penalties and should have taken that one. It won't be critical come the end of the season but you should stick to your game plan....

  2. It is surprising how injuries can effect the team. Sheridan may well have found a combination of players quite by accident who gelled together really well. The midfield looked to have a touch of bite and class with Livermore alongside Allott. Jarrett and Constantine up front looked as if they knew what they were about.

It would be a shame if Constantine went back to Leeds now just when he looks to be getting back to some kind of fitness. It was also nice to see Liddel warming up with the lads before the game.

Great display despite the appalling conditions.

Jarratt MOM closely followed by Rubes once more. The defence were dominant yet again which allowed the midfield and strikers to get forward.

  3. Chris Taylor usually has a go when the opportunity arises and he is never pilloried for doing so. There were a couple of occasions last Satdi when Allott and Jarratt both had opportunities but didn't take them, even though many fans were shouting at them to have a go. It is not a criticism, more an indication of a lack of confidence or fear of failure. I for one would like to see a shoot on sight policy (like Chrissy Taylor). as someone has already said. If you don't have a shy... You can't win a cocomut.

  4. Has anyone else on here noticed a reluctance on the part of our players to have a shot at goal. I don't just mean the strikers... McDonald and Allott both had opportunities to have a punt on Satdi against Millwall. Smalley seemed to look for any alternative rather than the shot and Jarrett preferred to look for the pass every time, even though it opened up for him on at least three occasions.

Was it the same against Donny? I heard that Smalley had a couple of chances late on but wouldn't have a go. I couldn't get there because my family insisted on me celebrating my 50th with them instead of letting me go to the footy. Miseries!!!!

  5. To put this post back on topic.

The person who shouted at Sheridan after Millwall had scored shouted the following "You're bleedin useless Sheridan" He shouted this about six times at the top of his voice and was told to shut up by several people including myself. I also pointed out to him that Sheridan was not the person who allowed Savage through to score the goal. However.... I also shouted at Sheridan when he came dancing down the touchline after we had scored perhaps the flukiest goal of the season that he couldn't claim any credit for that either!!! Sheridan did not flash the v's at anybody. He merely opened and closed his fingers to signify "Stop chattering" or something similar.

What Sheridan did after the Millwall goal beggared belief. To blame Jarrett for the goal was simply wrong. Jarrett and Livermore collided which allowed Savage through to score past a keeper who got his positioning totally wrong. I don't even wholly blame him. It's a team game. Anyone who says that putting Wolfy on was inspired didn't watch the same game. Wolfy touched the ball once. What happened was that the Tic's finally started to run at Millwall. Smalley being one of those who had been anonymous for 70 minutes but decided to make an effort after we went 1-0 down. For the last 20 minutes we did what we should have been doing for the previous 70. TRYING!!!!!

  6. I saw that too, Shez seemed to be blaming just him for their goal wish was a little harsh. He did ok when he came on though i thought, at least he put some effort in, though i would have brough Wolfy on instead of him when Thompson went off

Sheridans man management skills are legendary. The goal appeared to come from Livermore running into Jarrett which opened us up. Jarrett was in possession when Livermore ran into him and the Savage popped up with the ball. It appeared to be just one of those things. For Sheridan to immediately substitute one of our best passers of the ball during the game was stupid beyond belief. Thompson will also probably be out for the rest of the season. It just beggars belief at times......

  7. He played well at Luton by all accounts.

More interesting were his comments that it was the first time that he had played free from pain since joining us. Now that he appears clear of injury, let's hope the lad can now come in and show why he was rated by fans at both Forest and Tranmere.

Shows a lot that he was prepared to play for us (and risk his career) despite not being 100% fit. He also played for a few weeks with a broken nose as he didn't want to miss games which would have happened if he'd had the re-setting operation sooner.

No need for him to be a superstar but a steady CB like Hazell would do me just fine.

EEEXXXCCCUUSSSEE ME.... Hazell a steady centre back. He would have been player of the season if it hadn't been for that bloody Mark Allott..... :D There's steam coming out of me ears and everything now. STEADY well I never!!!!

  8. I don't understand how the council can threaten to throw the club out of the stadium when they have a 25 year fixed lease. Surely that can't be changed. Where would the council get any other cash from?

As with any contract. either party can breach it at their own peril. The council may consider the risk of court action to be worth it. They might try to make the club look as if they got too good a deal just to get them to talk about paying a rent increase. You are right about it not being changed. It can only be varied by agreement between the two parties to it.

  9. No Terry its a third of the fanbase on here and then only a third of the percentage of fans registered on here who bothered to vote. We really should not take this board as indicative of wider feeling amongst Latics fans. We on here are the minority, the majority are not registered, do not wish to be or have not even heard of this board. Lets not overstate the importance of this facility.

As for Shez personally I'll give him until Christmas then if we're still not moving forward with HIS players he goes at the end of next season. Never been a fan of changing manager during a season unless an absolute necessity ala Talbot.

I was just going off the number of registered users. It is now the Official forum for OAFC.

  10. I think even the most recent "Shez Out" poll after the Hartlepool shambles would prove you wrong there Terry. Less than 20% wanted him out and since then we've taken 6 points from 9.

The only problem with polls on here is that they are from a third of the fan base. To be fair you could probably transfer the result to all of the fan base but it is swinging away from Sheridan. You just have to look at the posts on here that are now starting to doubt him. I wasn't one of those wanting Shez out until recently and I may well have voted to keep him in the last poll. However I am watching a manager who does not seem to be listening or learning and that has changed my opinion of his ability. I make no apology for this view and await the venom......(Not from you I might add)

  11. Yeah about 14/15 clean sheets playing a large part of the season with niggling injuries behind a back 4 not playing all that well is appalling form isn't it. I know he hasn't been at his best in many games and he has limitations but the same can be said for every player in our squad

I don't know if Crossley should be runner up Gemma. He has had the benefit of a fairly stable pair of centre backs in front of him. This is one of the main reasons that he has looked better than he is. The shot stopping he does has been from 18yards plus out and that gives him plenty of time to set himself. He hasn't any pace left and I would hate to see him one on one with a forward bearing down on him. He may well have had this but I can't recall a situation like that this season.

Rubes has been a revelation since joining us and I particularly liked his interview with BBC sport the other week. He thinks we are still in the melting pot for the playoffs and that is good to hear from one of the playing staff.

  12. Or a manager:

Who doesn't let players carried away celebrating a win before the end of the game - haven't we lost a few in the dying minutes?

Who sets out a game plan, within the limitations of the injuries at the club

    Who - see above

Who has a restricted budget, yet has attempted to sign a number of players.

Who is honest and straightforward, never resorting to spin or hiding away behind "no comment".

Who develops players attributes by stretching them.

You see anyone can make up a meaningless list of attributes or denigrations.

Personally I think we should appoint managers for a maximum of 3 months, then have a poll on here to extend it.

And we should have a no swearing, quietly spoken policy, after all nobody gets carried away or excited on a football pitch, it's unneccessary.

Sorry REAL but my list is a considered one. Not just a meaningless list of attributes or denigrations as you put it. They can be backed up each and every one... Oh and as you say. It is fine for people to get excited On the football pitch. It is also fine when they congratulate each other on a nice goal or a good pass. I like your three month idea though, because we would have changed our manager by now.

  13. Are some of you finally seeing the problems with our coaching staff?

A Manager who seems to think that it's Ok to abuse the players even when they are winning.

A Manager who has not had a plan B all season.

A Manager who changes his game plan by substituting like for like when he needs to adopt a different approach to the game.

A Manager who has had to resort to emergency loans rather than spend money obtained from selling off our young starlet.

A Manager who does not know when saying nowt is the best option.

A Manager who has consistently played a player in the wrong (yes wrong) position all season but won't listen.

  14. I don't know if it would. I didn't get to the game and havn't seen or heard anything other than what is on here. It would appear though that more fans are beginning to question the management team (from what I read on here). I don't comment until I have the right to. I must have put the jinx on Rubes though after bigging him up so much earlier in the week. I still think that a balance of rollockings and encouragement during the game is the right way to go though.. Seemed to work against Tranmere. I saw JS shake Lewis' hand without any prompting then.

  15. Eh?

    Try £236k (minimum).

Apparently we offered £3k per week and Donny had £4k per week on the table so an extra £1k per week over 3 years = £156k. Plus Donny paid a £100k signing fee (compared with the £20k that we offered). On top of that, you need to factor in an extra 23% for fringe benefits like NI Contributions, Insurance etc. Oh and Agents fees and everything else that goes with it. All in all, we are probably talking around an extra £400k for one player and that is on top of what we were originally offering and that deal broke the Bank!

Oh and then what if moneybags John Ryan had increased Donny's offer? Where do we draw the line?

£14k? Mind you it will be down to a couple of Wagon Wheels and a cup of Bovril within a week or so.

DO You know how much I value a cup of Bovril????

  16. I know this may be a little early but everyone I talk to keeps saying the book is closed on Allott being player of the season. I would like to throw another player into the mix. Since Hazell arrived we have looked a much more solid unit at the back. He didn't have a club before he arrived and that must have dented his confidence slightly. However he repeatedly puts in consistant performances doing what he should do very well. I am torn between the two players right now.

    Thoughts please???

  17. Blatant push in Macca's back. Stone wall penalty. Chrissy Taylors on the other hand was well won by him. The defender left his foot there for taylor to fall over. Both him and the full back he was against looked absolutely knackered at the end of the game. The full back looked relieved to be taken off...

As for Racism. You need to let a steward know. there is no place for it.....

  18. whats all this shouting about then? someone care to enlighten me?

In the first half their No 16 screamed like a stuck pig when tackled by (I think it was Chris Taylor) He hadn't even been touched and it gave the Lookers crew the opportunity to scream at him every time the ball went near him. He could not wait to get off when subbed and the Main stand gave him a bit of screaming stick as he walked up the steps. Very funny!!
