  1. This team beat Everton. This team beat Leeds. This team beat Yeovil on Saturday. there is nothing stopping this bunch of talented youngsters, intermingled with a sprinkle of experience, going on a run and getting into the playoffs. If it happens I will be delighted. If it doesn't, as long as they tried. I'll also be delighted. Glass half full Guys....

  2. Whilst I agree Nik, I think Warney like John Eyre before him was overhyped. Effort is great to see especially in centre-mid but up-front more often than not a bit of nouse and guile goes a long way, as young Lewi proved yesterday.

I like Warney but we all seem to be forgetting how knackered he looked over the last ten games of last season. He wasn't the only one but appeared to suffer more than most. I remember commenting to a mate how the season appeared to be about six games too long for us last year.

  3. Their lies your problem JP. You seem to think that because tactics and such like are discussed here on the message board for Latics Fans. We must be having a go at Sheridan. That is just not so. We are discussing the game we love. You are the one who's blood pressure gets all elevated. I don't share your enthusiasm for Sheridan and Wright. That is my right. To post personal insults against the employees of McDonalds doesn't help your argument. All it does is devalue any point you make. So there. Na Na na Nahh Na.....

  4. love all these "I KNOW BETTER THAN SHEZ" opinionated types.

its as if he hasn't a clue about football to some!

would he come to you lot and tell you how to serve a big mac?

A good player does not a good manager or coach make. Just look at Brian Robson. You really have a problem with others having a viewpoint don't you. It is our club and many of us have a few years of watching the beautiful game. Long enough to be able to recognise some of the finer aspects of its tactics, player use etc etc. But hey never mind. You just post insults. Particularly to people working in McDonalds which is an honest occupation at least. Off you go now JP Insult away!!!!!!! <_<

  5. Seeing as how everything at BP is currently rosy. Are you all willing to admit to your little superstitions which you have on match day. Mine is my Neil Redfearn Tee which I have worn everytime we have won. I won't let the wife wash it until we get beat whilst I'm wearing it. Stay upwind People!!!

    Whats yours?

  6. I'm not going a home game again until we finally lose when I dont go. My new superstition that I am a jinx for home games.

Cracking result. Nice to hear Davies bagging again.

Super football results all round for me. Latics, Dale and Celtic. Oh and the Liverpool commentary on sky's soccer saturday was some of the best television you'll have seen all season.

Come on them Arsenal's. Cap off a cracking day's football.

Its all right Rocky. You can come to the games. It's my Neil Redfearn Tee thats brought the change of fortune at home. When I wear it we win, simple. I havn't let the wife wash it so if you do come don't sit downwind of me in the MS

  7. I thought there was a subtle change of formation anyway. It looked for the first 20 that we were playing three across the back. Hazell, Stam and Eards. Livermore pushed on higher up the pitch. We seemed to revert to the usual after the first goal.

I cannot for the life of me understand why the club gave Lomax a three year contract to leave him sat on the bench. I know he's a young lad learning his trade but he hasn't let us down on the pitch. He must be somewhat frustrated. Livermore playing on the left hand side of midfield with Taylor pushed up alongside Davies would be my suggestion, at least until Hughes is fit. Taylor scored his goal from the right hand side last week so thats were I suggest he should be playing.

  8. Why would we do this, we are about 4/5 weeks too late, season is pretty much over barring a miricle. Keep the deals until the season is finished.

It would appear that Sheridan doesn't have the same opinion as you. He thinks the playoffs are a possibility. If this is the case then he would be right to bring players to the club to lend a hand. I personally believe we have a squad of players not only capable of achieving promotion but also of staying in the Championship with one or two additions. All we need is the right leadership.

  9. Whilst still keeping one eye on relegation, Shez has challenged the players to do the business to get into the play-offs. The MEN reports:

    Preview: Oldham v Yeovil

    Fred Austin

    15/ 2/2008

OLDHAM boss John Sheridan has told his play-off hopefuls: "You can do it if you want it badly enough."

He has targeted two points a game - there are 16 left - for a top-six finish and wants nothing less than the maximum from Saturday's visit of Yeovil Town.

Latics chase their third home win on the trot and Sheridan believes their form at Boundary Park will be vital as in a big promotion push.

He said: "There's lots to play for and anything can happen in this division, you can see that by the results week in, week out.

"Any side can drop points and it is crucial that we go on a winning run and get them as early as possible.

"That would give us even more belief that we can do it.

"We also have to be very careful because if we don't get into the winning habit and teams below us start picking up points, we could find ourselves fighting relegation.

"That can still happen, you only have to look at the other results in midweek when we lost at Bristol Rovers."

Oldham are unlikely to make any changes to take on Yeovil who will include former Latics players Terrell Forbes and Paul Warne although a third, keeper Steve Mildenhall, is out injured.

Sheridan added: "It won't be easy because they are a decent side with some good, experienced players who know what this division is all about.

"They lost in the play-offs last season and, like ourselves, will feel they will fancy another crack this time round.

"We have to take the game to teams at our place and create chances from the start.

"Yeovil is definitely a game we can win, even though we were lucky to get a point down there a few weeks ago when our keeper Mark Crossley played well. He had to!

"We have beaten them at home in the past couple of season and I see no reason why we can't make it three on the spin.

"Games are coming thick and fast and I want us to win every one.

"We are a side with lots of energy and we have to learn how to use it to good effect and become more consistent performers."

See I knew he read this forum!!

  10. Interesting point about schools that one Terry as my kids are both of school age and it's obviously an issue for me. The Report on the 'riots' cited the relatively large number of selective schools in Oldhamas one of the reasons for the unrest. Which school were you looking at and where did you live?

The council only allocated Royton & Crompton for my daughter. A good friends daughter had to sit out the first year so that other Kids could catch her up. She had attended Buckstones Primery. I have no knowledge of R & C's standing other than what i have heard. It came down to there, or going to church to get her onto Crompton House. Not being a complete hypocrite as an agnostic I couldn't take the latter route so we decided to move 16 miles to Calderdale. a small authority. Calder High is as good if not better then the reports I received about both Bluecoat and Crompton House and it's results (Even though I despise league tables) are comparable. I got my Son into North Chadderton upon appeal from Shaw so that could be an option if you live over that end of town.

    Hope this helps.

  11. you know for a name like happyterrib i thought you would be more well..happy! you always seem a bit excited mate, i noticed from previous posts, calm yourself!

but for the record do you support latics? because you seem to hate everything they are doing at the moment?

anyone can beat anyone in this league, were missing a few players but unless you come up with the 4000 a week they are demanding i dont think we can afford to get anyone else

Seems like you're a bit of a mind reader but not a very good one friend. I love the Latics and have done so since i was knee high to a grass hopper some 46 years ago. The difference between me and our current management is that they can move on when the day comes. In the meantime thay do not appear to be up to the job IMO. Can you also point out to me where I have intimated that I hate what the club are doing. It just appears that if you place yourself outside the majority of posters on here then your view is invalid. I do not deny we are missing some players but it would help if our Management team would play the players we've got in their most effective positions. If they had a plan B and if they could encourage the lads on the pitch when they play occasionally. I certainly spend 90 odd minutes encouraging my team every time I get there. Like some one else said on here... opinions are like assholes, we've each got one.
  12. Love it. Injury ravaged team, stuck on a bus all day slips to a narrow 0-1 defeat in the last minute and the knives are firmly out once again. To be honest, I thought a draw would have been the best we were gonna get before the match myself.

Now your trying to blame the loss on the fact that players were stuck on a bus. If that is not P**s poor planning before a game then what is?????

  13. We have the players to get us to the playoffs. whether or not we have the tactics, heart or determination to get there is another matter.

    Two welsh internationals.

A prolific goalscorer in the championship.

    Solid defence.

    Championship midfield players.

You have to ask, where is it going wrong?

I think the line between success and mediocrity in this league is a very fine one. I have yet to see a plan B when plan A hasn't worked. It's the back room in my opinion.

  14. True Kets, though I'm slighty more concerned on a personal level about the Town Hall and it's aesthetics over and above the ugly market hall (though of course the market itslef is a different entity altogether).

I work in the centre of Manchester and whilst I understand that we can't draw exact comparisons because of Manchester's commercial 'pull', you look around at the beautiful old buildings like the Town Hall, the Royal Exchange and the old Refuge building and they all sit alongside the new developments giving the city character as well as a modern energy and vibrancy.

Oldham is allowing some of it's most significant old buildings to go to ruin, yet not even attracting the new developments to bring aesthetics and 'desirability' to the town.

It's going down the nick and it's all a bit sad really.

I have to say that I left Oldham because of many reasons. The main one was that we couldn't get our child into the school of our choice. My second reason was that I saw a town which seemed to lack any sense of history or pride in its buildings and facilities. The Tommyfield market is known throughout the world and once gave Oldham true notoriety. Look at it now. The council seems to be hell bent on killing both local and national enterprise. The local comprehensive here in Halifax is as good if not better than the best school in Oldham. Including Crompton House and Bluecoat... Thats got to be down to the council.
