  1. Don't really post nowadays but here's my tuppence worth. There's positives to take out of today, Gardner and Byrne first 25 lively, cohesive, ran things but lost their way a bit rest of the first half, Bryan came into the game and contributed more the longer it went on and it goes without saying he's probably scored the goal of the season. So I'm optimistic about stuff in midfield if they all turn up at the same time plus we've got the Frenchie we signed this week who didn't make the squad today (fitness/injury?). What did strike me today was Shez's stubborness (before anyone kicks off, I would have driven the car to pick him up last season and I still think he's the man). Nep (not a nickname just don't want repetitive strain injury) playing wing back, within the first 20 minutes was obviously and I mean obviously, not working yet it was persevered with for the full 90, there's no way Clarke and Gerrard can play in a back 3 if the wing backs aren't cutting it. Lad looked lost in that position do I go back do I go forward. He got the ball in his normal attacking position once in the first half, turned the full back inside out.................twice.......... then stuck a decent ball in the box, his only meaningful contribution as an attacker in the whole game. His full back got booked after 75 minutes, that's an invitation to run riot, nothing.  Not sure what Shez's probs are with 4-4-2 but we've just signed 2, by the look of it, very skillful wingers, get the ball out wide and let them run at people and do what they're fucking good at and give our forwards something to attack in the box. Reading it back this sounds a bit of a gripey post, but it's not, from 2 weeks ago we're on a different planet, should have beaten 2 of the teams expected to be there or there abouts at seasons end and I'm very optimistic but was just walked away frustrated rather than disappointed today.

  2. Just bumping this back to the top, any more bids are welcome, when the clock strikes midnight at New Year it's sold.

All proceeds to melanoma research. Come on guys can we top £50?

I'm in deepest, darkest Aberdeen for the New Year so I'll sort out delivery and payment when I'm back next week (now 'Dales not happening, extended break).

Wherever you celebrate it have a good one and KTF.

  3. Thought it was nice the way both sets of fans got together to remember Ernie at the recent derby game. I have an unframed home shirt signed by Sheridans 2006/07 play off squad which I've decided to auction off with proceeds to melanoma research in Ernies memory. Highest bid as the clock strikes in the new year gets it, no reserve.

How do I attach a photo?

  4. They suffer from big club gone wrong syndrome. I have an acquaintance I've made recently through some charity stuff who's a Wolves fan and as far as football is concerned makes your jaw drop with his over inflated sense of the clubs position in the greater scheme of things. Totally dismissive and condescending about us when we played them in the league and actually said he found it disgusting they were playing in the first round of the FA Cup. So I've just posted this on his Facebook wall......

Eric Idle! Noddy Holder! Denise Lewis! Edward Elgar! Goldie! Tessa Sanderson! Rachel Heyhoe Flint! Robert Plant can you hear me Robert Plant! Your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!

Ooooh you get warning points now, show's how long it is since I posted, can I get a yellow card for :censored: off? :clint:

  5. I'm loving Dinamo's schedule, you couldn't really have arranged those games any other way and covered more miles. They are playing Livingston and Hearts a week apart ( a journey of less than 20 miles in between ) via Oldham and the dark side ( West coast of Scotland, ask your local Celtic fan ) then finishing with another excursion South to the Yorkshire dark side at Barnsley ( no explanation needed ) which is less than 40 miles from us when they play us the week before. Is their tour fixer over here also the owner of a coach firm who's charging them by the mile? Will they have a full bus by the time the eventually get to Barnsley or will half of them have become economic migrants on the way? Have they got any decent players we can nick? These questions and many others will be answered in the next episode of........ ( Point for anyone who gets that reference )

  6. Some people go to the game to have a decent day out etc. These are the people that regularly follow us away creating an atmosphere that makes the games enjoyable no matter what the football is like. Away games are a million times more enoyable for that reason and no its wonder we have always been a better away side with the negative atmosphere we have at home.

What do you expect someone to say when they missed a goal? jesus

Doesn't a decent day out involve supporting your team for 90 minutes or is beer 10 minutes before and after after half time with no idea what's going on the pitch in between including losing a goal more important????

  7. Plenty of herbets knocking about yesterday.

In the block that got kept behind we weren't even allowed to go for a piss from midway through the 2nd half.

Got kept behind for at least 20min, with mainly kids really.

Saw no trouble myself after the game, but couldn't get a drink anywhere.

Bottom 3 rows to left of block S, other people in the block may not have been aware, we were sat there, that's why the whole block was kept back. Some people with kids were moved elsewhere by police as they obv weren't comfortable and niece left and went and sat in car halfway through second half as she said she didn't need to deal with people like that.

Beer involved, best part of 3 rows :censored:ed off to bar 10 minutes before half time and returned 10 minutes after and to a man didn't realise we had gone 2 1 down, started looking at each other quizzically saying " We're 2 1 down". Classy.com

  8. As much as I want the best for Celtic it goes against my traditionalist leanings, I believe that clubs should make the best of what they have got and go with it. If it did happen Celtic would rapidly become one of the richest clubs in the world though, the global support base and merchandising potential would be off the scle when they were in the Premiership.

Not a good day today lees, fair play Killie their keeper was astounding at times and they gave as good as they got so well done.

On the Old Firm for England question, it always amuses me when people say they would never compete. Regardless of Rangers current predicament, if they were financially viable as Celtic are and had access to the money Sky throws at the premier league they would both be up there with their global appeal. It's a no brainer that being in the premier league with capacities of 55,000 plus rabid fans every week and the worldwide merchandising opportunities that go with it would financially allow them to compete in signing the best players available because that's where the best players want to play.

  9. M'Voto's booking was the highlight for me.

It was the only time in the game a Latics player put in a cruncher in the midfield area.

First Dale goal: Tarky heads it straight up in the air and then lets it bounce. Shocker.

Second Dale goal: Brown backs away forever and they get a chance - Cisak saves brilliantly but we then fail to clear the resultant corner.

Third goal: M'Changama (who played ok) gets caught in possession on the half way line. Tarky gets done and pointless tug. Could easily have been a red card.

If our players aren't prepared to put their foot in, rattle an opponent, make a tackle early then we're doomed.

It can be fixed, even with the players currently available.

Although when your two match saving substitutions are Hughes and Winchester you see how paper thin the squad is.

Was Hughes really offside on the disallowed goal?

We thought he'd given offside but spoke to a mate who didn't go after game and he said Latics World said it was for a foul on the keeper?

  10. Malignant Melanoma Facts:

:: 11,800 patients diagnosed every year

:: 2,100 patients die from the disease

:: Annual diagnosis figures to hit 15,500 annually in next 15 years.

The first new treatment for malignant melonoma in 30 years is now available.

    Christie Hospital success

It's one of a pair of new treatments Diego, the other being Ipilimumab. Vemurafenib is suitable for patients with a particular gene mutation called the Braf gene, as the story suggests it has had some very good results compared to previous treatments. The next step is to get NICE to approve its use for all NHS patients and there is a process to go through to achieve this which can take time.

Factor 50 are melanoma stakeholders now with NICE meaning we are included as patient representatives in the consultation process.

There has been an ongoing consultation since last September regarding Ipilimumab, we attended the hearings at NICE to give representation to the commitee on patients behalf along with oncologists, skin specialists and other healthcare professionals. At that stage the commitee declined to approve it's widespread use on cost grounds. We started an internet campaign to bring it to parliaments attention, asking people to write to their mp's which was ultimately successful. An early day motion was raised specifically mentioning Factor 50 and it was debated in the house.

    http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2010-12/2362

As a direct consequence of this the drugs manufacturers Bristol Myers Squibb, with whom we had been liaising as patient representatives, came back to us and offered to provide the drug via the Patient Access Scheme, this means the drug will be available at a discount to the NHS to any patient who's clinician thinks they would benefit from it. This was taken back to NICE and we again attended meetings last month regarding this. NICE are due to give a final ruling early next week. The next step will be to go through the same process with Vemurafenib.

I know I come on here from time to time asking people to support Factor 50 for this that and the other but this is what goes on behind the scenes that you don't see, we really are helping make a difference to melanoma patients. I don't say that in a look at us aren't we great way, it's important to me, my niece suffers from melanoma.

Whilst the above 2 drugs are massive leaps forward, they aren't cures. So we carry on with the fundraising to help The Christie research team as well as trying to raise patients concerns with people who matter and can do something about it.

That's why your support is important to us, with the golf day and chucking your change in our buckets at the game, it all helps.

Sorry if i've been long winded here but it matters. I've attached a link below to a viral video a melanoma group from Canada made called Dear 16 year old me, it was a massive worldwide you tube success, please watch it.

  11. Given Ernie Cooksey's connection to both clubs, Rochdale are very kindly allowing Factor 50, the local fundraising and patient support group for the malignant melanoma team at The Christie, to take a collection at the game on Saturday. There will be a couple of Latics fans outside the away turnstile shaking Christie buckets and any spare change you can part with would be greatly appreciated and put to good use by the research team.

Friday 29th June sees this years Factor 50 Ernie Cooksey golf day at Manchester golf club, Hopwood cottage, Middleton. Now in it's 3rd year, it's going to be another great day on a great course.

Wayne aka Chaddy the Owl is again entering a team this year so if you fancy you can out golf the Owl get a team in and prove it :D

    Entry enquiries via myself andyworthington.factor50@googlemail.com

  12. Agree Simpson great crosser of the ball.

They came with a game plan which was set up to close the man with the ball down denying time and space and ultimately frustrate. They did it well and shall we say robustly. It was always a case of whether they had the legs to carry it through 90 minutes and as soon as we scored the whole complexion changed as they had to open the game up. From then on it was never in doubt.

That penalty was a beaut, has it landed yet.

  13. Keith Hicks and Rochdale FC football in the community team are running their annual fundraising 5 a side competition for Factor 50 in memory of Ernie Cooksey on Sunday December 4th 2011.

The competition is being held at The Soccer Factory, Royle Barn Rd, Rochdale and runs from 2 - 6pm on the day. Trophies and medals are on offer for both the winners and runners up.

Entry is £40 per squad of up to 8 players and you can book your place by ringing Keith at Dale FC on 07958 593121 or Graeme direct at The Soccer Factory on 01706 659111.

It's always a brilliant afternoon and raises much needed funds for the research team at The Christie.

    Cheers

  14. Hi Guys,

Hoping you maybe able to be of some help.

There is a new drug Ipilimumab, also known as Yervoy, which has recently been licensed for patients with advanced melanoma. In trials people who were told they were terminal are still alive 4+ years later and counting. NICE, the NHS body that reviews and approves new treatments thinks, at around £70,000, it's too expensive and have provisionally declined to approve it for NHS use.

This decision is now under review, after a concerted campaign a group of MP's have tabled an Early Day Motion to get this debated in parliament http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2010-12/2362 we are trying to get people who's MP's are not signed up to contact them asking them to do it. If you don't know how to contact your MP here are the details www.findyourmp.parliament.uk .

Ipilimumab is the biggest step forward in treatment of melanoma in 40 years, it needs to be freely available to every patient. Any help any of you can be in pushing this would be greatly appreciated, if anyone needs any further info or I can be of any help andyworthington.factor50@googlemail.com

    Cheers

    Andy
