  1. just 2 divisions and a lifetimes finances away, but hey, why let reason and logic get in the way of a good story?
  2. no, what with you talking :censored:e an all....... as a general reply to all the numptys posting on this thread, you hate United, well done, whats missing from your lives? I'd personally would spend my energy hating someone relevant, like Huddersfield, or Tranmere. Or does hating a club Oldham have nothing to do with really mean a closet sign of affection, you know like when you always threw abuse at the girl you really liked, but when people suggested you liked her, you said "nah :censored: off thats gay"
  3. so you hate a club? isnt hate a bit strong really? i mean, ive got a kid, and i dont hate anybody or anything that isnt going to do him any harm, i find it hard to get wound up about anything else. I think you need a girlfriend, or a hobby apart from football, honestly, its a big wide world outside of that 90 minutes we all waste every weekend...........
  4. Because people die in an incident related to a club Oldham have a "ruivalry" with 40 years later, that isnt really a rivalry, but more an excuse to throw abuse at local lazy people who can be arsed going to watched local live football. Is that somewhere close?
  5. so how do you deal with the conseuqence of being a small pathetic person then? cos lets face it, would you call the people who died in 9/11 a "twin towerer"? I mean, lets have it right, to take pleasure in an air disaster from 50+ years ago, you must have something missing in your own life?
  6. would you refer to liverpool fans as "hillsboroughs"? No, end of arguement. plus, the time added on today was correct, City wasted time like nobodys business, they got what was coming to them. Plus, to be fair, United murdered them second half, or does that go against te grain to admit united might have possibly played well?
  7. or maybe, just maybe, United havent done anything wrong? maybe not ethical, but within the laws of FIFA.
  8. Oh yeah, I fully appreciate the banter and all that, it just saddens me a bit when I see grown men actually jumping in the air celebrating when another team (and im sure Oldham and Burnley had a fair rivalry when they were both in the same division didnt they?) save a penalty. And as for the financing of the stadium, thats what would be one of the most prevalent thoughts in my mind, beleive me the last thing you want is to be mired in unsustainable debt, United are at that level now, some of the stories Ive heard this summer beggar belief for "the richest club in the world" (sic). i think sums it up adequately.
  9. in terms of united fans who gloat in pubs etc without going to games, yeah, rub it in their faces when they get beat, but I still dont quite understand the mentality of going in a pub when they are showing united and supporting the other team but hey ho, each to their own and all that. In terms of Oldham, and YOUR message board, I am not calling all of you sad, just the ones who were taking as much delight from a Burnley goal as I see them taking from an Oldham goal. I do check Oldham news quite often actually, as I have lived in this town for a large percentage of my life, and a lot of mates who I have gone through school with support Oldham. I go to games when I can, and would like to see Oldham do well for the town in general. The owners getting a new stadium? for what my two penneth is worth (probably not a lot the majority would say but never the less), they will be selling prime building land at Boundary Park, and build the new ground for half the price, probably by borrowing the money. How do you you think they are going to secure that finance? My guess is by mortgaging the new ground, thereby costing them next to nothing and passing all debt onto the football club, leaving them to walk away with a nice big profit. (which I believe they have already made noises about recently) I didnt feel a "need" to come on here and tell you you are sad, and no, Oldham do not mean anything to most United fans, however, as someone who lives in Oldham (but not born in Oldham) they have some local relevance, and this is a forum I enjoy lurking on for some of the non football related stuff that gets posted, just thought I would add my opinion, cos thats what footballs all about, isnt it?
  10. how very very very sad. the fact that you would rather look at a game between 2 sides who mean nothing to Oldham and enjoy beating the other than look at the people running Oldham and ask why a town a third the size of Oldham are 2 divisions above them in the league. but instead of asking serious questions, i expect a load of abuse for being a "ManUre *******". I think that Corporal Jones fella might have struck on something........
  11. football, no matter who you support, only gets in the way of a good piss up on a saturday (or sunday usually in our feckin case). i dont mind putting 18 quid into latics every few weeks, maybe if they did more like bury did the other week, ie half price tickets for season ticket holders from other clubs, they would attract more or make more money?
  12. there was nothing in the post to suggest it was tongue in cheek, but thats the beauty, or otherwise, of the written word. Im not on any bandwagon, I am a United fan, st holder etc etc, have been for many years, i just happen to live in oldham and a few of my mates are oldham fans, so i take a bit of an interest in how they do and try and go and watch them a few times a season. I personally wont win any silverware, the team i support will hopefully, but either way its been a good season. (i also cringe at the Theatre of Dreams name, just because the club spout this crap doesnt mean us fans accept it) Finally, my spelling and grammar are a disgrace? didnt realise it was an english test, ah well, i'll get back to my blissful ignorance.
  13. even though not intended as such, ill take that as a compliment. and fergie would never hear a word spoken against park, despite the fact he is crap.
  14. yes, the turn and finish was jammy beyond belief and NOTHING to do with skill. obv. nah, my reaction was thank feck it wasnt park to be honest. the goal was timed at 92:04 (according to the beeb) hope this helps, doubt it will. and the injury time was awarded as there had already been 5 subs, the physio had been on on 4 seperate occasions and friedel insisted on taking his goal kicks on the other side of his 6 yard box from where the ball went out. now, call me cynical, but they all seemed quite deliberate delaying tactics. but your all right, 5 minutes was wrong, it should have been 6 or 7.
  15. erm, tiny bit of a loss of perspective? you'd rather die? the other lad had it right then, some oldham fans do need to enjoy their life a bit more. i was at latics on saturday, and was rather bemused at many of the comments i heard, such as "the refs obviously sucking up cos fergies in the crowd" (despite the fact the ref had a quited decent game i thought, tried to let it flow as much as possible. and as for singing we hate man u repeatedly in the first half, if that had been the only game id heard it at, i could understand, what with fergie being there, however when its EVERY latics game i go to, ffs. "wife beater" to fergie jr did make me chuckle though, as did the reaction of the RRE at the end when, after singing about his parents on and off for 90 minutes, all went into mock outrage when he celebrated a hard fought win in front of his own fans. some people need to fill the void in their lives thats so obviously taken up with hatred at the minute. oh and yeah im going tonight, and actually think we will either draw or scrape a one goal win, but then again my united watchign glass is always half empty
  16. no i didnt, due to the fact he was the most recent of our rivals that we played, and also is the most hyped one. i could have mentioned to do with john terrys red card at city being rescinded earlier this season, and lampard should have been sent off at old trafford for a stamp on ronaldo in january, but wouldnt want you thinking im obsessed with chelsea. I dont "have a problem" wih him, hes a cracking player, bit of a snide tackler, but im sure we used to have some irish fella who was similar. i didnt bring him up merely to have a go at him, but to illustrate the differing treatment of him compared to other players due to his perceived world class status. yep, we do get tarred with the same brush, and when discussing football in the pub with people you see some glaze over straight away when you say your a united fan, their problem really, not mine, and i would not expect any sympathy on here, i dont come on for that (or to cause trouble) but to look at the fan culture at Oldham. i do dislike liverpool (wouldnt say intensely, i dont have that strong a feeling about anybody really, not even the ex wife ) but thats reciprocated, what i cant understand is the dislike, sometimes bordering on hatred, United get from other fans, not just of Oldham but of teams like Stoke (i really will never be able to work that one out). if its down to our perceived arrogance as supporters, and a tendancy to lose poorly (which most of the reds i know dont), then as ive said earlier, you show me a happy loser, ill show you a loser
  17. I used him merely as the most convenient example, could say the same about Lampard and "JT" (how cringeworthy) at Chelsea, Stevie "Superman" Ireland at city, could go on but wont. I would have hoped that the rest of my post indicated that genuine, reasonable match going United fans (of which, despite popular belief, there are a few thousand left, thank god) dont occupy "a little land of paranoia", I acknowledge good football and good players when I see them. Didnt see the press mention the United fans who stayed on at the end the other week and applauded Torres off the pitch at the end of the match. He was, and is genuine top drawer world class (thanks Martin Ferguson for not recomending him!) and I will always recognise when we are beaten by quality. In one sense Gerrard has nothing to do with us, but in another he is after all captain of our fiercest rivals who we are currently battling it out for that all important 18th title. i know im not obsessed with him or his club, i just want to see ourselves finish above them each and every season, same as i do the other 18 clubs. i actually cringe when we are playing, say, Wigan or somebody similar, and all some reds sing about is bleeding Gerrard, Murderers and city, we have enough cracking songs for our own club and players without resorting to that. Now as a united fan, im hoping some of what ive said makes some oldham fans realise were not all japanese tourists/arrogant gloryhunters or "in our own little land of paranoia" but i appreciate that some will read it and still think "red scum". ah well, c'est la vie.
  18. i live in royton, originally from Manchester but have lived there for most of my life (bar about the first 4 years). i dont see any rivalry with Oldham. as the team closest to where i live, i want to see them do well. when united arent playing (which is quite often at 3pm saturday infortunately) i go and watch Oldham as much as possible. This isnt as often as i would like but Im a season ticket holder at Old Trafford so im there every home game and aways when i can get a ticket/family circumstances (im a single parent) allow. i hate the fact that the white hart or the grey mare are full of clueless united fans as much as you do. i hate the fact that these out of towners "support" United, when they dont ultimately have the first clue what "supporting" is about (ie not getting on the backs of players when they put the first pass out of play), but i equally hate being in these places watching united and having Oldham fans cheering the other team. in the white hart last season at one point it was amazing, there were the Derby County, then i think Tottenham, supporters branches in there in successive weeks. I dont know about anyone else but when Im watching football that doesnt involve United, i dont care who wins. I give stick to my oldham supporting mates, but would never take the piss out of the league position/financial plight/whatever. your right about sharing a rivalry but surely it should be more of a jokey one, as you rightly say, apart from the reds in oldham not too many united fans register oldham. thats not having a dig, thats how it is. I also take stick from lads who support Oldham, but it does seem to verge more on the nasty side. No football is worth getting that wound up about is it really? As for saturday, yes ronaldos "tackle" on murphy (he didnt touch him to be fair but the intent was there) could have been a red card but having watched the whole match, if he had sent ronaldo off for that, Fulham would have easily ended the game with the same number of players. I will still maintain that any other player throws the ball back like Rooney did, he will get away with it, especially if he has already been booked, but hey, i suppose thats because were on different sides of the fence! I can understand why some fans "hate" United, and there out of town fans (i see the silver lining that these out of towners when they do go spend a shed load in the tat shop and help keep my ticket price semi reasonable ), but both a sense of perspective and a bit of reality is needed sometimes. Surely if Fergie had the refs in his pocket so much, Rooney wouldnt have been sent off, Vidic wouldnt have been sent off last week, we would have been awarded at least some of the countless pens we have been denied this season (as im sure every side has), but its not as bad as a lot of ABU's make out, just as were not as squeaky clean, im sure, as a lot of united fans make out either, but then again, does every team play within the rules for 90 minutes every week? A lot of these things are stock responses. When Fergie said we were the better side, although we deserved to get beat, we played the better football. Liverpool dealt in long balls (sorry, long passes when Stevie G tm executes his 3 out of 10 that stay in play), we didnt deal with it, end of. Everyone comes straight out with the sore loser crap. Well to an extent, yeah, we are sore losers, may go someway to explain the success we have had, but the truth, as usual, lies somewhere in the middle.
  19. it was all prompted, it suggested strongly that benitex had been sitting on it for a while, and Liverpools performances suffered in the weeks that followed, therefore it was a case of mind games and in that instance, Benitez bit, hook line and sinker. Regards the Champions League - correct, he is in the Champions League and they are not - however I did say in context, the context being expectation, money spent etc etc. in this context, the best manager in the premier league is arguably Moyes, having done it over several seasons. The best team doesnt always win the European Cup, however the best team always wins the league, and Ill stand or fall by that come May. Rooney threw the ball back to where the free kick was being taken, the ref was a good 5 or 6 yards from this spot. 2 minutes prior to this, just before the 2nd fulham goal, an offside was given against a Fulham forward who then proceeded to hack the ball to the back of the stand. Guess phil dowd must have temporarily lost his card. Maybe it isnt hatred, it does often seem to border on obsession, not just you, but many other Oldham fans on here and otherwise. I havent got the time or energy to sift through all your posts, but I'll take your word for it, although I dont seem to remember too many other occasions where you have been gushing in your praise for Ferguson or United, but ill be happy to be proved wrong.
  20. For Benitez to pull that piece of paper out in that press conference and pre-arrange the question which brought it all out with the reporter from the Liverpool Echosuggests it was a rant, pre-meditated or not, it made him look quite a tit. As for the impact on the 2 teams, thats hard to qualify, as that press conference alone may not have damaged Liverpool but a change in a managers general demeanour can have serious repercussions. It hasnt cost them the league, only the team that holds its nerve for the last 9 games can say they didnt "crack up", united will still probably win it. As for Ferguson not mentioning Benitez in the best other managers - in context, he isnt in the same league as Moyes or O'neill. End of. Rooney on saturday - disgraceful, to allow the degree of hacking that went on and then book him for throwing the ball back to where the free kick was being taken from, ah well, at least Phil Dowd will be able to dine out on that with the a.b.u brigade for a long while. Any other player from any other team (say, for example, the press' darling "Stevie Me") there is no way on the face of this earth it would have resulted in a yellow card. Just one question though Diego, i know this is a "general football" room, but why the obsession and so much hatred for a manager and a team that have absolutely nothing to do with Oldham? it goes for a few others on here, after the Liverpool-United game last week, there were posts on here by people saying it was ok for Oldham to lose like that as United getting stuffed made it bearable. Obsessed.
  21. but what has munich (a disaster 50 years ago) got to do with glory hunting supporters? liverpool not arrogant etc etc? have a word with yourself ffs and im not a "closet" red, i am a united fan, season ticket holder who, as i live in oldham, takes an interest in oldham, and goes when i can, as a couple of people on this message board will vouch for, due to the fact i can use more then 2 of my brain cells and thankfully know that not all oldham fans are so blinded by jealousy/insecurity whatever it is, they spend as much time obsessing over a team with no relevance to their own, as they do supporting their own side (and for anybody who doubts that, just sit in the white hart when united are on the telly away from home, and latics arent playing, its like the feckin star wars bar) and as for making it personal, yes, i will make it personal, as i would any arsehole who references people dying to A GAME OF FOOTBALL. and the person who thinks its a recent term, since the 90s, to call united fans "munichs", you are mistaken, just ask any red who went to anfield in the 80's (before and after hillsboro). allowing yourselves to be so consumed in hatred isnt good for you you know. (ps, how we looked saturday - fine until carrick went off, then 2nd half was just shocking, at there of all places an all, but not to worry, they dont give prizes out in september)
  22. so do you refer to liverpool fans as hillsboroughs? regardless of who you support, your view of another club, it makes you an utter, utter dick of the highest order to use terminology like that.
