  1. Wow that was enjoyable! The football, beer, music and the atmosphere were all better than last season - and to top it off it was sunny!

Notts were poor - probably on par with Tranmere last week but you've got to beat whats in front of you and we certainly did that. I loved Hughes' little 'pass to me wave' perfectly timed with our chants of 'Hughesey give us a wave'. He was their danger man but we marked him out of the game. Tounkare's goal was a belter and it we can sort his running (Shez's last seasons knees by the look of him running!) then we might have a decent player. The tempo of the team was cracking and what a refreshing change from last season.

Onwards and upwards - first stop tonight BEER :drinking45:

  3. For a start there was two front rows restricted to sit in and I saw quite a few gaps in the stand. Although it is always harder to spot when you are in the stand yourself. Great turn out by the fans today and I'm sure it impressed the new players/management at the club.

Here's for the same on Tuesday :drinking:

  4. Nowt wrong with the The Sun - people slag it off and I know why, but for me its pure comedy gold for the price.

I don't know how much it'll be but it usually averages at 20p a paper. But compared to the price of a ticket buying the paper for the required time works out a hell of a lot cheaper than paying on the day! I can't see the negative in this offer if you were going to the game anyway. Say if Wednesday charge £20 per adult ticket, you could buy these few days of papers (cost about a pound) and you and a mate get in for 4.75 and save a fortune. It doesn't take a genius to buy more than one paper and use it for the other games and you save even more....

  5. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/fun/c...icle2825850.ece

If you can't be bothered clicking basically the offer is for the following Latics games:

    Home

Oldham Athletic v AFC Bournemouth - Saturday, September 18, £19.50

Oldham Athletic Colchester United - Saturday, October 16, £19.50

    Away

    Brentford v Oldham Athletic - Saturday, October 09, £9.50

Sheffield Wednesday v Oldham Athletic - Tuesday, September 28, £9.50

    Walsall v Oldham Athletic - Saturday, October 02, £19.50

So you and a mate could watch Latics at Hillsborough for only £4.75 each!

Cracking offer which I'll be buying 5 copies of 'The Sun' over the next few days (not bad for non season ticket holders) and Latics won't lose out as N-Power and The Sun will cover the cost I presume.

  6. Ah the annual which song when we score debate

My shout: No music straight away then 'Hey Jude' by the beatles - you know the nar nar bit and we just add the Oldham at the end. We already sing this tune and I can't think of anybody else playing this when they score so I can't see it being controversial with the fans and it would sound pretty good.

We just need to score now...

  7. You know its desperate times when we want a good cup run in the JPT!

But in all seriousness, yeah lets go for it for a change (actually maybe we've 'gone for it' in previous seasons but were just crap...hmm). I was at the final of the competition through Johnstones Paints last year and it was a cracking day out for both sets of fans and I was wishing it was Latics there.

  8. I don't expect us to reach the top half so I've gone for 13-20th. As far as we know Dickov could be the worst manager we've ever had or he could lead us to glory- were going into an unknown. All we do know is the strengths and weaknesses of the players on our books - hardly promotion material is it. I've not been to any pre season friendlies because they mean naff all and tend to build you with optimism then you get knocked back down to reality on the first game of the season!

I just want to see good attacking football thats good enough to keep us up and a fairly decent cup run to give the club a buzz again. The problems with our upsoming season are the lack of quality in our back up players and the reliability on certain players performing to their best on a regular basis.

I hope I'm wrong but I think it may be a lower table fight again.

  9. According to wiki - Abbott scored 13 goals in 38 games - 3 from the penalty spot according to soccerbase. Even though he was our top goalscorer he was relatively average and was one of the reasons why we nearly went down. Even Allott had a better record when he was first here and look at the stick he got! He looks like a footballer yet he never actually did enough to stake a claim to be one of our main strikers next season. If we get 75k then its a bonus and will be karma from the Joe Colbeck transfer. I wish him well if he leaves but I won't miss him.

  10. With all due respect, where was this?

He managed City reserves and did quite well from what I understand. He also has Championship experience with being Colemans number 2. I think stepping up to a number 1 role in the football league with Latics would be the right time and the right move forward for him. No disrespect to Dickov as we don't know how well he'll do, but its a stab in the dark and it'll need full paitence from the fans for a couple of years which we all know you won't get anymore here.

  11. Being realistic Magilton would be out of our reach I think. Frankie Bunn returning would be welcomed by most fans including me. If he were to come I think Gregan would be an ideal assistant rather than Ritchie as I think you need one leader rather than two.

Another idea for a new manager would be for Gunnar Halle to come back from Norway?

  12. The player who comes to mind when talking about a 5 year contract is Danny Mills. Kevin Keegan signed him up at Citeh when they had got to the Premiership and after a year I think he left on loan due to him being crap.

Eaves is promising but so have so many youngsters over the years. He's got a lot of learning to do and he needs to focus on becoming a great striker.
