  1. It was a stage of the season that clearly was of huge importance. Seven teams all in a similar position. Three wins, two draws and two losses, nine goals for (only failing to find the back of the net in one of them) and eight against (three clean-sheets). So that's eleven points from twenty-one, and three off the dropzone with a game in hand.

Nevermind the performances, because at this stage of the season and in our position, they're not important, are people happy with the points return?

Given the teams we played and the fact five of the games were played at Boundary Park, I'm not that happy with eleven points. However, teams are fighting, so I'm taking that into consideration.

We need a 'surprise' win on our travels.......trouble is this season we don't do surprise wins.

  2. It's clear to me that there is little point in worrying about the short term future of the club. Relegation - so what? There needs to be some serious long term thinking here and while the new stadium (wherever) is obviously key to that it's a lot more complex than that; there simply has to be some way of reconnecting the club to the community otherwise the whole thing will just be a pit stop on the way to the knackers yard.

What I would like to see is the club make some commitments that make it stand out from the lower dvision crowd; not one off gestures, not special deals for a match at Christmas but something that captures imagination and makes people think that this club is a little different from others - in a good way!

    One thing to start off:

Lets "just say no" to the loan system. It's a farce - destroys fan/player relationships, denies youngsters a chance and, frankly, has contributed so little to the club over the last few years that we may very well be better off without it anyway. Doubtless some will say that it is cutting off a nose to spite the face but, as I say, look at the longer term. It could provide a boost to the youth system, develop players quicker and even encourage promising youngsters to come to the club in the expectation that they will get a chance - as used to be the case.

Avoiding relegation is the ONLY priority for me at the moment.....I will consider other issues once our Div 1 Status is guaranteed but for now everyone associated with the club needs to focus on staying up.

    Any more?

  3. I hope you get given the opportunity to stay with us 'till the window closure at least as you've improved our forward threat, offered committment and experience and bettered what we had previously.

Penny had better have a damn good alternative lined up if he let's you go. On balance if you remain with us as a squad player I believe you are a better option to stay with us through March rather than send you back south and potentially gamble on another A N OTHER!

People talk about Management continuity, what about squad continuity?

  4. They'll have to keep hold of the manager more than a the players. With a Rochdale promotion on his CV, something which no living manager has - I reckon he could well be snapped up.

He will get Dale up then leave, he's already hinted at leaving due to the club selling players against his Will (Buckley)!

Bet both him and Flicker are on peanuts so it won't take much.

  5. I'd prefer Colbeck (as I said above) but wouldn't cry if Smalley kept his place — if it boosts his confidence getting a run then fair enough.

I think dropping him solely because we're playing three top teams would be a mistake — being dropped as not good enough would surely destroy his confidence more than playing against them and not winning.

isn't Smalley's confidence already shattered? - why did Penny allegedly pay 60k for a winger who appears to have had a clause written into his contract saying "Sorry, but you shall not play if Smalley is fit regardless of his form, attitude or application". This attitude smacks of an absolute waste of money when priorities did lay elswhere, - central defensive cover and a STRIKER.

  6. Its not the greatest time to be a latics fan at the moment, not doing well in the league, stadium issues etc. The thing is what does the fans need/want? At the end of the day, we pay a lot of money to watch Latics and maybe we as fans should stand up for the club because i think the club is slowly being killed off. What you guys think?

The Bovril is still far too hot despite the cold spell!
