  1. I'm not purposly trying to single anyone out - the whole team is far too often inconsistent - it's our major issue. At times we're a decent side, other times, we're p1ss poor. There is too big a difference between the two abilities. This is probably down to a youngish side.

Sometimes, i agree, taylor is unfairly singled out - but it flips both ways. If morais, reid, black, or many others put in only 1 decent performance in 4 or 5 - we'd all be calling for a change

  2. I could see him keeping Taylor out of the side at some point in the not too distant future.

I'm pretty certain my 29 year old body and dodgy knees could keep taylor out of the side at the moment.....genuinlly think he needs to be dropped in order to show him he's not guaranteed a starting spot. With the odd exception, he's been poor for far too long......rarely beats a man, only gets the odd decent cross in and falls over far to often.

Maybe its just me and i'll be shouted down - but I think its about time all the sentiment was set aside and we viewed his performances rather than what he's done for the past

Bench him....see if he reacts well....we're all winners

  3. No chance with Steve Eyre at Rochdale, and now that Cook has left means that Dickov's links are now tenuous at best. Oh and the fact Marwood is a :censored: of the highest order….

There's really no harm in trying....surley with this being a multi-million pound operation, basing links to local clubs on who is in charge at the time isn't the wisest thing to do. Will dickov or eyre be in charge of either side come the end of the season? Nobody knows........We have a decent record with youngsters at this club, and i thought it was fairly common knowledge that Philliskirk is an outstanding youth coach. We should be going to them, not with who we have in charge being friendly with maureen the tea lady, but with a list of things we can do to help them bring kids through the ranks. Why can't we benefit City just because they're a filthy stinking rich club? Large clubs will always need smaller clubs...

  4. Two words

    FEEDER CLUB .............

With something like this going on down the road - it is hard to see where clubs like us fit in. Nothing we can do to stop them doing this - but if they're going to eb getting some of the best youngsters around - we should be doing everything we can to get some sort of link with them. A few players on loan here and there....perhaps recomendations on players who don't quite make it.

There are plenty of clubs around here and we're in an ideal spot to offer decent young players first team action where they don't even have to move out of their digs.....

You have to hope links are being tried for at the very least

  5. as long as we learn that he wants it to feet - he'll do absolutly fine......he clearly isn't target man and isn't massivly impressive with his back to goal but if you get him to turn and face goal, he could be very very dangerous. Decent control, quickish feet and although he's not the quickest, close control in the dribble makes him appear quicker than he is.

I know we've won the two games where taylor has played as the man behind up front - but i do think his best position is the wing and perhaps reid would be better playing off a front man. In the frist couple of games, he was trying to run on to smith flicks and to be honest, read it very poorly whereas if you ask him to pick up the knockdowns and have a run at the defence - or drop deep pick the ball up and turn - perhaps that would benefit him too?

  6. I had started to wonder recently whether PD is the man for the job, we started like a train last year but the wheels came off after the Rochdale defeat when we lost Mvoto, combined with other players missing too. I didn't expect us to beat the Blades and was pleased when we matched them for the first 45, I thought we should have beaten Carlisle but we couldn't get the ball in the net and Yeovil was woeful.

Then the trip to Scunny came, PD shuffled the pack and got the result. The day after I watched his post match interview and fell in love with the man all over again, he talks so much sense about everything and to see the players in their interviews saying that they were happy about the win but more importantly pleased for "the gaffer" to get the win speaks volumes.

When Talbot came in I agreed with many of the things he did, making players wear suits and I think he stopped them using mobiles at training, for some players, this kind of discipline is needed and can get results. Shez was too close to the players, always hard being promoted from within as it is difficult to maintain the balance, the dogs incident had been waiting to happen for a while.

Off-field and on-field Dickov is the man to take this club forward. He has engendered a fantastic team spirit, stuck to his guns regarding the type of player he wants at the club, through necessity or choice isn't scared of playing the kids, if they're good enough they're old enough and he always references the fans with regard to results and thanks their contribution when they've travelled to see a win or a loss. He knows how he wants the game played, how many times has he said "get the basics right", we've lost when we haven't done this and won when we do, it is a pretty simple game at the end of the day.

He will drop some right rickets over the coming seasons but I can see him getting more right than wrong, I can see us having a problem keeping hold off him rather than having to dump him out of the back door. We as fans need to back him and stump him the old hard earned to get behind the team and enjoy the football on the pitch, it isn't going to be the same standard as Messi & Xavi as we don't have that budget but when the team clicks it hasn't been bad to watch.

+1 (With the exception of falling in love with Dickov - although i do like him.....lots!)

  7. more of a christmas tree than a triangle :)

    -----x-----

    x--x---x--x

    --x--x--x--

    -x-------x-

    -----x-----

I actually believe that this could work for us...would allow more of a holding role for one midfielder poss two if full backs have bombed on....players slightly closer to smith and basically just say to morais and taylor when we have the ball - do what the hell you want....when we lose it drop back in as quick as possible to make a 5 man midfield

Lets face it - second half of last season and the start of this isn't creating enough chances. I'm all for dickov, and i'm not saying we're in trouble - i just feel we're too predictable and a refreshing change could be in order. As we stand, we don't break quickly...we have too many sideways backwards passes to a point where other teams have chance to get their men behind the ball.

  8. You must of not been watching last season then. We put in a number of balls into the box only for no-one to be on the end of it due to being in the wrong place.

I personally thought that we put a lot of balls into the box last year - the majority of them just poor..often sailing into the keepers hands or not beating the first man. We all see games different

I just get annoyed when i watch highlights of other games and teams score on the break....when was the last time you saw us break forward at any pace? By the time we get in the final 3rd, teams have had ample time to get back in position and rebuild the walls. There is no urgency to get forward and we're FAR too prefictable

  9. not read the whole thread...........but if you don't create chances you don't score goals...

yes it would be nice to see a goal from an individual who makes it for themselves, but these aren't all that common at our level.

Winchester isn't a winger....i like him - huge potential, but never a winger. He drifts inside, if Leee pushes too far forwards - we're massivly exposed....thats one side of the pitch we're not scoring a goal from. The other side of the pitch....well for me, taylor yet again didn't deliver. He gets you off your seat, he runs forwards but instead of laying it to black or crossing it (with his left :( ) foot - he cuts in and either slices a shot or runs into two players and the balls gone.

Now that covers a large part of the pitch where we're not creating chances - add that to two midfielders who can't seem to push forward - doesn't matter who you have up the top end to score goals. If all you get is a hoof up to you and nobody to lay it off to as your back is to goal - your in trouble.

All this means whenever we do get a chance - if its missed (see tounkare last year) the crowd is straight on the players back because we know it could well be the only chance......perhaps also causing players to snatch knowing its now or never!!

I only played sunday league....and in the couple of years i played for "poorer" sides up front....there were large periods of time i felt how reid looked on saturday. Every strker wants to score goals, and the longer you go without the opportunities, the more peeved you get - and when its you thats dragged off...its hard not to think how could i have done anymore!!

  10. Too early....

if we're not winning games come september/october - perhaps questions need to be asked - we've got a threadbare squad which dickov is doing his best to add (if he added players for the sake of it people would moan they were sh1t) so wait till the window shuts and our squad is more final.

Yes, we got beat on saturday - but it was against a fairly solid promotion contender. Not the end of the world is it?

  11. Mvoto is still young - think it's easy to forget looking at his size....he's still learning the game, and he'll make mistakes.

I think his issue is if he makes one mistake (and lets be fair - we all make them!) it affects him for the next 5 or 10 minutes and if he makes another, the cycle goes on. First half he was excellent and i fully expect him to step up again on tuesday and be solid. It's just hoping over time he grows to learn not to fall apart after a mistake but get his head back on. Diamond was trying to say that to him but he was aimlessly ambling around at the time!!

  12. Like has been said it's time to move on....

If the T3A can get a majority of what they sunk into Failsworth back and chalk it up to bad experience - seems like the best option to me. The only thing that sticks in my throat is that perhaps the council could well be getting a peice of land worth more than we thought...

It's not often you run into problems and still have the ability to get the majority of your cash back - who is to say if we now push on with Failsworth we won't run into more issues down the line. That site has been choking the club and causing problems for too long. Get rid and start concentrating on the original plan of redevloping BP

Everybody was happy when we originall got plans drawn up for staying at BP so it seems that it was the owners original choice - Failsworth only came along after those plans were scuppered. We now have the opportunity to go back somewhere towards our original plans rather than the backup - lets just bite the bullet and make a start!

  13.

For those who are just having a pop at fans for being negative take a step back and look at the bigger picture. The original Boundary park development was an £80 million development. The plans for Failsworth were a £20million development (to outcries of downsizing) The hand out from the council is £5.7million and some of that will be pocketed by Blitz and Gazel. Downsizing?

Wherew were we getting this £80 / £20 million from? We were looking for investment from outside....No £5.7 million won't cover what it needs to but its a start and we now have agreed plans in place which can only help when we go out seeking further investment...

  14. Lets face it - not all the fans are going to be 100% happy with what happens...

i wasn't happy when it came to moving to failsworth but i was behind them because it was a way of moving us forward....

at some point, we all - as fans and a club, have to say "this is what we are doing - lets do it" and whether we like the choice or not, we must back them in as many ways as we can. We all have our own opinions, but no matter what people say - we all want success for OAFC (at least i hope we do!!)

  15. After reading this thread I'm quite convinced that if we won a league and cup double people would be on here moaning!!

    +1

Some of the people on here just refused to be pleased about anything....

We've been in a position where it looked like we may have no ground at all and have to groundshare - and we all know that if we'd gone down that road, we'd have had no stadium, and no plans for a new one. Basically - we weren't too far off seeing the beginning of the end for OAFC.

We now have an opportunity to redevelop OUR home and try to increase revenue which in turn will help to try and propel the club forward.

Me? I'm not fussed about Blitz/Gazal and whether they are in or out....all i want is a self sufficient club which, if necessary, could attract investors to either join corney or take over from him. It looks like we may be getting somewhere near this - and hopefully there won't be any more hurdles in future.

Last season, the stadium at failsworth fell through, and i don't care what anybody else thinks - that moment is when our season on the pitch started to fall apart. Surley news like this should keep us all happy and make us look forward to this season and many seasons ahead at BP - if we look forward to it and get behind the XI on the pitch - who knows what might happen

Cut the moaning guys - get behind the club for 2011/12 and the future - one we serisouly looked like not having.
