Call me negative but I don’t see a way back for the club.

Club should be pushing them out but they are silent this year. If we can get 3k+ season tickets i still think its a decent number for this level
Constantly pushing the early bird date on social media - the only silence is regarding numbers sold. Obviously not as good as last year - but that is hardly surprising.
It will pick up but this season there will be far more 'pay on the day' customers who will wait and see and pick and choose.

Aah, transition. The fancy 2024 name for getting the ball back. Low block and second ball, there’s another two arty farty expressions that numpty fans quote.

Sorry, I’ll dumb it down.
Smash him, and Gerrrit forward quicker.

Another one who's time at Latics was instantly forgettable for me, I'm afraid..
He was decent in the games I saw him play

I've responded, primarily complaining about the fans bar...
Too slow to get served, not enough seating but the pie and gravy is good

What did you do with the winnings?
He was 40-1 so I didn’t retire on the winnings

Put it on hold maybe….

I dunno if my memory's fading but i have absolute no recollection of Cameron Burgess.
I had £1 on him to be first goal scorer at Oxford Utd back in 2016 when he was on loan with us

One more chance each season?
Absolutely!

Why are you suspicious of one of the players who actually runs, tackles and plays forward, as opposed to those who can’t be bothered?
Yes he is fragile and is he worth a new contract for that reason, but he is not one of the “I don’t care if I play” brigade.
I suppose the point is that he only puts in the fort when he is looking for a new contract maybe?

The only one I'd have from them is Emmanuel Dieseruvwe although he has a year left on his contract and probably has interest from L2 clubs. Had a great season in a pretty shit team.
We had him on loan for 4 games in 2020 - he’s only 29 and a big guy - not sure about his style of play but he has scored a few this season.

On the vitriol stakes currently we'll take some licking and that as to stop. Whether like you, fans don't believe Mellon can take us forward, or those like me who still think given his own hand he'll get us up there, we all need to come together next season. Otherwise the toxic atmosphere at BP will only hinder.
I agree that the vitriol has to end.
The club needs to come out and ask for this to stop and for all fans to get behind the team
I’d go further and state that fans who continue the ‘foul-mouthed’ invective are not welcome at the club.
Next season we all need to pull together.

‘the best fans in the league'.
That’s twice you have used that epithet - and we all know it ain’t true.
A few may have said it in regard to the numbers who travel away as a percentage of the home numbers but that’s all.
Our fans are no better or worse than the vast majority of teams.

Going to buck the tread a little. I liked that Mellon interview, the honesty that we've all seen and worked out for ourselves.
It was a miserable, defensive, ‘don’t blame me interview. The way he accused Alan of lazy journalism and spoke of the top teams we had played… honest? It was laughable. The level of abuse and vitriol has to stop
Agreed
Providing Mellon and DR can talk a good number of players to leave and release the budget for in coming, then Mellon will get us up there next season.
Will he?
He's no mug and his track record for me gives him credence.
Not for me based on his track record last seasonI am going to stick with the trend - it was a poor interview. (see online comments)
And I’m not convinced that he is the right man.

I wouldn't have an outgoing Captain around a squad
Doesn’t seem to cause a problem in cricket.

I renewed today… I’ll give them one more chance…

I'm getting fucked off with the clubs lack of engagement at a pretty crucial time in the season, it's almost feels like them and us now and I really do fear for our attendances next season if there isn't a shift in mood, of course the clubs not obliged to disclose anything or even share their plans for the future but for me thats piss poor form that harks back to years gone by,
It's been compounded by Mellons disastrous stints in front of the camera recently which have frankly been on a par with his touchline antics and embarrassing for the club.
I'm not holding my breath - this is football after all where all business acumen goes right out of the window but what a shame it would be to start disenfranchising the fan base because they have received some criticism, it's a very dangerous game they are playing and I for one am turned off from it all.
Good post

It really is a ‘nothing statement’ - as you say, they’re telling us what we already know!

Clarke was my absolute first choice too.
Look what he’s done at Cheltenham. Joined them end of September when they were rooted to the bottom of league 1 having got 1 point from the first 9 games and having not scored a single goal all season and a goal difference of -15.
They battered Peterborough tonight (18 shots to 7) and now just 2 points from safety.
Surely we’d have paid more than them, unless he simply wasn’t in the running…
And he is picking Nuttall

Stopped playing how they could on purpose or stopped by inept management tactical choices?
An element of both I reckon.

Something, though, is rotten - in the mindset of the whole group (including the manager), and in the relationship between the playing staff and the fans.
It’s a collective ‘mental breakdown’ in footballing terms.
It seems that once it started, there was no way to stop it - it was painfully evident that most of the players had simply stopped playing how they could, and were hamstrung and shackled by the tactical approach and positional choices adopted by the management team.
Once it started, it spread throughout the squad and the season was lost. The fans could quite clearly see this but are powerless to affect any change - this results in a breakdown in the relationship between fans and players and ultimately the manager.
The close-season is the time to reset and excise these demons but given the number who will still be here in August, it does not fill me with any hope that next season will be any better
