  1. I think that the pitch has lasted well this season. However, it needs a lot more bedding in to happen ahead of next season.

I notice that the ball still bobbles along the surface (when we play it on the ground) in comparison to the better pitches.

Hopefully a good close season will help… 😉

Mellon, for all his experience and cute CV, IMO, hasn’t improved us one iota.

Even allowing for our obvious deficiencies he should surely by now, be able to get 11 out of this squad of 32 players playing to a decent and consistent standard. Apart from a smattering of youngster’s these players are experienced pro’s who’ve done it before at this level and several in divisions higher up!

Out of the 6 players he signed in January none are regular starters and a couple can’t even make the match day squad!  We didn’t need squad players, we had enough of them, what we needed were players able to go straight in to the side and make a difference, otherwise, what was the actual point!

I really hope he comes good but IMO he’s done nothing to suggest that he will. If we are struggling around Xmas time and not firmly in the playoff places do we just stick with it?

to your final sentence, and accepting that it is pure speculation...nope we don't.

You mean we should have appointed one who has taken 2 teams from this level into the football league?

SIX years ago - the league has changed hugely in that time.

He really has shown that he knows the National League hasn’t he?

We’ve tried young unknown coaches, we’ve tried experienced managers. We’ve tried club legends, we’ve tried outsiders.

One thing we’ve not tried for a decade is starting and finishing a season with the same manager.

Even if we start slowly I’d be surprised if we’re in relegation trouble so I’m of the view that Mellon needs to be given the full season next year.

The one thing we did not try (and should have) is to appoint a manager who knows the National League.

Very possible that we'll be watching either Braintree or Chelmsford next season.  Both places I've been to (although Braintree have a new ground now) for what were local derbies in Conference South.  Chelmsford would be a whole new level of Southern Leisure Centre, it having a single stand and being in the middle of an athletics track

I'm not debating whether Mellon gets next season or not because that's a given and rightly so but what alarms me is the frequency in which his teams get absolutely drubbed and played off the park, it's almost like every other game now and that's after we supposedly strengthened in January to help us at the business end of the season.

Say what you want about Unsworth but his teams didn't roll over and have their bellies tickled at the same frequency as Mellons lot.

This for me is the biggest worry next season alongside him failing to spot where we are desperately short and him being a tactical dinosaur, it's 2024 and we still play seven at the back out of possession which is just soul destroying particularly as we keep very few clean sheets.

Strange that you say “rightly so” about MM being in charge next season, then proceed to list so many of his shortcomings as a manager… 🤔

I will recommend the following players:

    Cardwell & Bridge - SOUTHEND

Haughton, Hosannah & Ustabasi - FYLDE

    Conn-Clarke & Linney - ALTRINCHAM

Brown (on loan from Derby) - GATESHEAD

    Keohane - ROCHDALE

    Maycock - SOLIHULL

    Pearce - WORTHING

    Plus

Parkinson - ALTRINCHAM as manager should Mellon decide to leave…

    You've got the job.

The only one of that lot I’ve not seen play is Pearce but the stats are good… 😉

Forshaw wasn't one of mine, it was Harry Vaughan before he made a first team appearance.

I have watched and recommended Alex Robertson from Manchester City (I urged ST to sign him on loan immediately) Nick Haughton, Ryan Colclough, Conn Clarke, Regan Linney and  Adam Crowther.

The one who hasn't really has a chance to prove himself is the powerhouse Colwyn Bay right back Alex Downes, although he's now playing a league higher than last season and rated as one of the best in the Welsh Premier League.

I still think Will Sutton will play higher than us, but as a centre back)

We don't need another CD, but young Devon Matthews of Curzon Ashton is a good prospect.

Of the youths I've recommended Alfie Atherton and centre forward Collins Kagame (a really nice lad who I've spoken to and has a lot going for him with his striking ability and movement off the ball) train regularly with the first team.

I will recommend the following players:

    Cardwell & Bridge - SOUTHEND

Haughton, Hosannah & Ustabasi - FYLDE

    Conn-Clarke & Linney - ALTRINCHAM

Brown (on loan from Derby) - GATESHEAD

    Keohane - ROCHDALE

    Maycock - SOLIHULL

    Pearce - WORTHING

    Plus

Parkinson - ALTRINCHAM as manager should Mellon decide to leave…

Brabin should know all about this lad given his role at TNS 👍

But why do the players really give a shit what a load of beer-swelling, pie-eating numpties, who've probably never kicked a ball in their life think?

I reckon that many fans who have watched football for 50 years or so do know more about the game than the players they are watching.

*from a beer drinking, burger eating numpty who has kicked a ball a few times over the years 😉

That would put us on just under 70 points over a season which wouldn’t normally be enough for the playoffs and won’t be this season either. As you say, complete collapse over the last month or so is what’s killed us but the fact that MM has overseen it and doesn’t appear to have a clue as to getting us back on track is my concern!

True - I missed the question mark - it should have read “playoff form?”…

As I’ve written on several occasions recently, I am not convinced that Mellon is the manager to take us back to the EFL 🤔
