I'll second that. It's always nice to get a flavour of Boundary Park by reading the posts on here. Thanks.
Here's to a successful season!!!
I live a mere 198 miles away - travelling up today with a pal for the game - full of expectation and a little trepidation too - you blues!
-
Although modesty clearly doesn't forbid you from sending an email with a link to this thread to make sure I tell the story!
It's all a bit hazy, anyway. Can't really remember the details
Crossley but Fleming will take over this season
-
The family wanted it to be applause in celebration of Ernie's life.
Applause or silence - it's a magnificent gesture - well done
-
I wont pay £27 for League 1 football either. No chance. You'd expect to pay it at wembley in the playoff final, but not a run of the mill league game.
but if we win... then it would be worth it no?
-
I think you'll find they were copying what fans did in the Isle of Man in 1997.
This was to give their voices a rest from singing the Gregan song.
I shall be trying that in the main stand saturday
-
Tommy Bryceland - ran the midfield. 1970-71?
Big Jim Fryatt - a legend
-
Starting Eleven on Saturday?
Here is my suggestion....
Stella
Becks
Carling
Grolsh
Carlsberg
Budweiser
Corona
Tennets Super
Special Brew
Holsten Pils
Staropramen
And I would go for a classic 4-4-2 formation.
........................ .......................
................ ...............
Obviously, Stella is the keeper as "nothing beats Stella". We have some hard cases in midfield with Tennents Super and Speical Brew while the light bodies of Corona and Budweiser should add a bit of fizz if things go flat during the game.
PS I'd send Ayingerbrau out on loan to a non-league club.
Love it -

I've got to say I like the look of Stephens. I hope he develops further and turns into a gem. Maher will start however, Stephens may step from the shadows at some point.
My thoughts exactly -we now have the luxury of being able to bring the younger players along gradually. Got to be good for the long term future
-
WTF is going on here?
Lidds is the only player who can consistently deliver a decent cross which is backed up my his assists record the past few years. We missed him last year and it showed, having to play a whole host of central midfielders or strikers there. This year, with a full pre season, he's raring to go and I hope he starts.
E4e
ERNIE
John Sheridan is the gaffer - the team he picks is okay by me - if Liddell is doing the business then that is okay too.
After yesterday I think there will be some surprises next week with the starting line-up.

Is the RRE open to Latics fans tonight? I know it was allocated for the massive turnout we had from Derby, but wondered if common sense had prevailed?
Nope - don't think so. As I understand it, Hull have been given the large section of the RRE with the small section closed.

IIRC correctly we had a deal for that Roque lad where we paid his wages when he didn’t play, the Scousers paid him when he did. Unfortunately he wasn’t very good... Can’t blame Shez for wanting to be sure before committing to a deal that leaves him with the choice of losing money that he could potentially spend on a shorter term loanee in favour of spending it on a player that will both cost money and put pressure on his team selection.
Sign him

I'm suprised we're usually tipped for the mid-table or the drop every season preview I read every year without fail
And there's more...
Preston - One to Watch - Neal Trotman
Notts County - Most important player type thing - Richard Butcher
Oldham - a great start in life for a professional footballer
-
1.) Leeds- obvious really
2.) Rochdale- obvious really
3.) Tartlepool - If its not obvious by my location you need to go back and learn some UK geography
4.) Whoever we get in the League cup after Rochdale
5.) Whoever we get in the second round of the FA cup
Leeds
Tranmere
Leicester
Huddersfield
Stockport
home and away

Interesting interview........
*7 bids been made for 4 of our players, doesn't want to sell UNLESS price is right for the club
* Happy with the signings we've made
* Demar deal up to Shez, but if he signs he must play, so predicament there for Shez
* TTA involved in property in UK and U.S., telecoms struggling too, times hard for everyone
* Promotion, if not this year, when?
* Strongest squad since TTA have been here
* Doesn't want to put pressure on Shez, but then again.................
* Expects Black, Bell, possibly even Lewi to go out on loan because we have no reserves and they need games
* In his opinion Taylor isn't a left-back but he doesn't pick the team
* Does expect 1 or 2 to be sold (Doesn't intimate who)
I would expect Eardley to be the man to go - shame really - and I hope that we do manage to hang on to him and have a decent go at this league
-
zola will be a hit if they keep maynard theres deffo a chance that a good partnership could be formed.
That means we will thrash Hull on Tuesday - 6 nil at least!
-
Danny Whitkaer was one to watch?
i didn't put that
When did the issue come out?
Hi Maki - the one to watch feature is in the FourFourTwo summary not yours - the magazine arrived in the post this morning.
Cheers
-
A few memorable highlights from the FourFourTwo season preview:
Scottish Premier League
Aberdeen - One to watch - 'Gary McDonald signed on a free from Oldham - a doughty competitive midfielder - he has been brought in to add skill and steel to the heart of the Dons'
Motherwell - Most Important player - 'Chris Porter - score goals but also links well and brings others into the game'
St Mirren - Most Important Player - 'Will Haining, our commanding centre half. When he didn't play last season we were usually trounced'
Championship
Doncaster Rovers - One to Watch - 'Richie Wellens' - Most important player - 'Richie Wellens' - Terrace favourite - 'Richie Wellens' ...
QPR - Most Important Player - 'Fitz Hall'
And as for us
22-1 to win the league, which puts us into the top ten. One to watch - 'Danny Whittaker' and the fans view from Maki: Most Important player - 'We're a team' Terrace Favourite - 'Mark Allott' and finally 'where will you finish? - Between third and eighth depending on new players' - sounds about right to me
-
It won't be Taylor, Shez knows now that if Philips comes we'll have two good wingers and that's hard to come by (see last few seasons for evidence). Swansea had it last year and it worked pretty darn well...
Eardley may go, but it's far more likely that he'll ship out Kalala on loan (if he can't get him out permanently), Deano on loan, Wolfy on loan.
I am convinced that Deano will not go out on loan - his season last season was a revelation and he will be an asset to us even if he is on the bench.
In fact, I think the bench this season will be a strong one and an important part of the team. We have a squad of some twenty four (I think) who are candidates for the first team.
The thirteen most likely Bench warmers: (a large bench needed!)
Fleming
Stam
Thompson
Lomax
Black
Stephens
Kalala
Lee
Hughes
Liddell
Smalley
Alessandra
Wolfenden
The most likely starting eleven:
Crossley
Eardley
Gregan
Hazell
Taylor
Whittaker
Phillips (please)
Maher
Allott
O'Grady
Davies
Only weakness is the absence of a genuine left back..

What a fitting occasion for such a great bloke. Many tears, but equally as many smiles.
Ernie's coffin arrived in the courtyard of a sun filled East london Church were some 400 people had gathered to pay their respects to a great bloke. Thirty minutes before the procession arrived a lone female singer sang from the front steps of the church.
Three extra hearse’s where included the procession to carry the all floral tributes that had been sent to his family. The flowers on the back of the one carrying Ernie, simply say ‘our Ern’.
Many of the Oldham team Ernie played in where there, Killen, Will, One size, Andrews, Bosh, Eyre, Eysie, Hughes and many more. AH, Stam and Shez from the current set up.
His coffin was carried in by a dozen of his mates, on top was a single red rose and his old Latics shirt with 16 Cooksey on it.
Part of the service was video highlights of Ernies footballing career ... unfortunately I could see the screen but you know that his smile on the clips was just spreading across the whole of the church.... any everyone below was laughing and smiling, one the clips finished the Church was asked to applaud the career of Ernie, its seemed to go on forever.
I’ll will scan the service this evening and post for those of you who want to read it
Mark - great tribute - much appreciated

Terry's account of today's funeral along with a number of very moving photo's has now been added to the Ernieflag site.
Thankyou Terry, very much appreciated.
Terry - moving tribute - cheers

Michael Jackson - probably would have been a disruptive influence in the dressing room with all the youngsters we have in the squad - If he doesn't want to sign for us then he should beat it as far as I'm concerned...
-
Sorry, but felt I had to reply as I don't think it very fair to be considering if a player is a good enough signing or not before they have kicked a ball - Mr Prejudgemental
Surely that's what this board is all about - opinions. What's wrong in expressing a view as to whether you believe a signing to be a good one or not? I totally agree that we will only know when we have seen each player in competitive action but I think it's a good topic for discussion.
As for me - I think that all are decent signings for a club in our position and of our status - if a couple turn out to be really good 'uns then that's good enough for me. I look forward to seeing them all.
-
Myself peering into the future on the 7th of May.
I reckon that he will be a decent signing - two year contract and for free - nice one
One more to go?
