Last year, we’ve only been in this league 2 years.
In any league?

When is that our highest finsihing position since?

Problem is, none of us know how the dressing room actually is or who is the root cause within it. We pick up on elements from watching from afar on a Saturday, that's all.
I just can't see any manager turning it around quickly with so many underperforming and disinterested players on the books until at least 2025.
Need to understand why they are so disinterested. It makes no sense

He has to hold his hands up with certain decisions he's made, but the rot runs much, much deeper than him. This is the point I suppose I'm really getting at.
As it turned out in the end, whichever formations, gameplans and team selections he tried, the players by and large were incapable of executing any one of them.
True. But I don't get why it exchanged so abruptly from when we were 5th. I'm sure something happened. I know he's dour but he's looked completely uninterested since then

Body language from him at the end suggests he may fall on his sword here. Unmitigated disaster in terms of managing such an insepid bunch of poor performers. He deserves a summer window, but with so many of them with at least another season in contract, it's a huge job to replace them all with hungry fighters. I don't blame MM in any way, the damage has already been done before he stepped through the door.
If only we could bottle whatever Mike Fondop has, put it into a serum and apply to the majority of the rest.
Really? He's shown no ability to coach, motivate, plan, select, inspire, innovate. He may not have been dealt the best hand but surely he could have done better than this? He's been around this level for years so he'll have been aware of the abilities of most of the players. I can't see how he gets a free pass

It's a shame we can't get proper xg stats for our strikers from say the start of the year, would be interesting to see how big a drop of Norwood has had.
I really couldn't care less abut xg stats! I want g stats! That said I don't think I've watched a game this season where he has failed to score a 1 on 1, starting in about the third minute of the season at Southend Take half of those and....

It would be impressive if we managed it
True! Looks like from open play Fondop and Norwood will have a pretty similar goals per minute record this season. Nobody would have suggested that as recently as March

I wouldn't say build a team around him, but if we start next season without him I can guarantee we'll have a worse striker upfront...
But you can't guarantee we'll have a worse team.

Salford perhaps, Tranmere, Bradford. I reckon a fair few league 2 teams would be interested. For what it's worth I think binning off our best player because he's pissed off that we're shit might not be the best idea. Instead id try to look at making us not shit by getting rid of the terrible players (and possibly the man in charge)....
Although he appeared to be delighted when Mellon signed

I’m not saying this is right or wrong, but I’m absolutely convinced now that Mellon is going- either by resigning, mutual consent or sacked.
He and the players telling fans to fuck off only ends one way.
Mellon said that?

Got to get Norwood off the wage bill. That won’t be too challenging I wouldn’t have thought. Will free up some decent funds in one hit
Who would pay what we're paying? 33 year old with a dodgy hamstring and an attitude problem

From the BBC website- League only. This doesn’t include today.
Nors 17 in 40 games MPG 184
Mikey 7 in 31 games MPG 210
After today that will come down for Mikey.
And regardless of the whether penalties count I'd always say that goals in open play is a very valid comparison. Very similar records and service can't be blamed

He was taking the piss, he’s scored 10 goals this season and contributed far far more than a lot of them - but will get released . .I don't think he's taken a pen? If that's the case he's got two fewer in open play than Norwood. How does that work pout in goals per minute on the pitch?

The FA/PL know they can get away with this. Most football fans don‘t care.
Decisions like this should surely be made in consultation with the clubs it affects.
They keep chipping away at things. How long will it be until we get the suggestion of B teams in the league again?
Surely a solution to this could be like the FA Trophy, where teams can agree before the game to either extra time/pens or a replay after 90?
No PL team will agree to a replay so that puts the lucrative replay theory to bed anyway
-
Huge blow to tradition but I can't help feeling the moneyspinningness is overstated. Probably one or two clubs each season get a really lucrative replay. Half the time now the crowds for cup games are poor and at reduced prices

Obviously I have little (no) insight to offer on this. However, I would be interested in your answers to two questions :
a) how ready do you think the club is for a return to the EFL?
b) linked to the above, to what extent is this season's "failure" a potential blessing in disguise?
I'm very confident that if we'd somehow scraped up this season we'd have found a way of finishing no lower than third bottom in L2

I'm trying to understand how now it ever managers regularly watch(ed) players they were interested in signing with any degree of frequency. We've played Tuesday/Saturday almost weekly since Mellon arrived and Tuesdays and Saturdays are when most players we might have been interested in were probably playing

What were the circumstances of him leaving his last position? He gives every indication that he's had enough of the whole caboodle.

I have always had my concerns about Kitching. He appears to optimise this team. Too casual and relaxed in everything he does. No fire or energy in his play
He appears to optimise this team? That's a bad thing?

Dear Season Ticket Holder
Oldham Athletic would like to thank you for your 30 years of service to the club. However, when your season ticket expires at the end of May you will be released as a supporter of Oldham Athletic . . .

Murray wasn't even in a football role until he came here, he was administrative. There's no indication whatsoever that he's remotely interested in becoming a manager.
