It gets worse for Halifax's pitch.

Halifax Panthers play on it up to June 1st and then resume on June 30th. That is nowhere near enough time to renovate a pitch, let alone one that is in crisis.

Our pitch, which is in good order, sees the rugby vacate it between May 5th and June 26th. Not great for them short term, but a much more sensible schedule for the long term health of the turf.

Where are the Roughyeds playing during that spell?  The first female RL ref at professional takes charge of their game this weekend.  Her biggest challenge might be keeping count of the score

I think that the pitch has lasted well this season. However, it needs a lot more bedding in to happen ahead of next season.

I notice that the ball still bobbles along the surface (when we play it on the ground) in comparison to the better pitches.

Hopefully a good close season will help… 😉

Gordon strachan I think. There is deffo a stat about him like this anyway.

did you know John lukic (sp) survived the Munich air disaster ? 🤔

Urban myth re Lukic.  The story is that his mother was pregnant with him at the time, but she must have had one hell of a long labour given he wasn't born until 1960

I actually survived a plane crash myself. It gives one a whole different outlook on life

Exactly. In my head the season should finish the first Saturday in May, it's now finished mid-April.

So squeeze a couple more night matches in early doors. It would help a lot by the end of the season.

Let's see next season if the NL learn from the mistakes from this season.

How many teams does the team who finish 7th have to play if they reach the play-off final?

No. Sharp did against Luton. That's the only one, I think.

Damn.  I was asked a question by a football anorak mate - Who is the only player born in the 50s to have scored a Premier League hat-trick?  Would have been nice if the answer had been Stitch!

I played golf this morning and one of my regular playing mates seemed a bit agitated, odd as he's normally a very chilled out kind of guy. Turns out he was at Cheltenham last night as they lost 0-1 to Carlisle (already down) in a crucial relegation match for them. He was apoplectic about Nuttall, who apparently missed a sitter early on. Honestly, I've never heard him swear so much 🤣. Among his more repeatable comments about Nuttall were "can't bloody jump", "fucking useless", "sodding donkey", and he said if we don't take Nuttall back at the end of the season if not before, he might just stick my 7 iron where the sun doesn't shine!! 😧🤣

But can he hole a Dennis Wise under pressure?

I largely disagree with this. If we had a much better midfield that creates chances for strikers to run on to then he would have scored more and he may well have been approaching 30 goals. I think most of us would agree that the midfield has been generally woeful all season.

It's still the case that he's misses 1:1s in every game I've seen  this season, starting about three minutes in at Southend  Popping half of those in might well have made the difference

Congratulations to Liam Hogan - well deserved from what I read.

    interesting snippet from the article:

“Liam has been a real leader when it comes to our community projects, he’s made our lives so much easier by being so accommodating and up for helping out.“

Let’s see more of that leadership on the pitch please 😃

Does he have ambitions to get into coaching/management do we know?

I agree but when you ground share then surely you have to consider the implications of playing on it,  and if the rugby don't then this situation will crop up season after season.

If you inspect a pitch and it's bad but more or less playable, but you knew if you played on it it would be unplayable for the rest of the season, would you pass it fit?

yes, because the ref's job is to assess whether it is fit to play at that particular time

Would they say allowing another team to ruin your pitch (twice) as mitigating? I would say it was stupidity.

If both times a football match couldn't take place on it then the rugby shouldn't have been allowed.

Can't say I know anything about the set up at Halifax but is there any reason why the football club would be able to claim primacy?

That probably applies to all Mellon’s signings….maybe he got lucky with Stones.
    I suppose 1 out of 7 ain’t bad!!😂😂

We know that the agent who bigged up Walker was David Eyres, and he gets a free pass with some because of his status here.  Still failed to make any meaningful impact wherever he's been.

I hope the irony of calling a whole generation nonsense when you have just come out with a red faced tirade about a stats tool and the word soccer is not lost on you.

The short of it is that some teams try to "moneyball" it but most use it as a way for scouts to watch more players easier

I do wonder when people started getting cross about 'soccer'.  It was certainly referred to as hat pretty commonly when I was growing up and i don't recall anyone having an epi about it.

The Met office have a 15 min by 15 min timeline of the rain and although a rain free night tonight, its non-stop till after the game is finished...

I saw someone put on twitter the league rules for if a game cant be played. Im paraphrasing but it says that the league board will award a default 3-0 win to the away team and can issue disciplinary action, a fine, a deduction of up to 3 points from the host along with paying the away teams expenses. Says nothing about venue switching.

    See you all at Wembley?

I suspect strongly that there's a mitigating circumstances clause
