  1. Alan Mcneil was one of my all time favourite players...lazy at times but more skill than a lot of the so called stars of today....scored a Beckham from his own half in a mud bath at Blackburn before Beckham was a sperm.  He also scored a Worthington flick over the top and run around against Rochdale on New Years Day..too.

  2. Google. Colin Garwood golden goals..

Great footage of Bristol R vLatics...1974. What players

Ian Wood. George Mcvitie. Alan Groves..Andy Lochead....Colin Garwood...never popular but many important goals that season. Oh yes...tamgerine and blue.....oh :censored:. Forgot Ian Robins. One if the most underated players for Latics.

  3. Scholes offers nothing in terms of genuine managerial qualities.

But he will bring some focus on the club, a chance for a greater level of commericial income as a result of that interest - something that with a new stand on the horizon would be very beneficial.

    Won't happen sadly.

Can anybody be really serious about Scholes ?....his demeanour as a pundit tells you right away he does not

    have the personality to lead.

  4. Yes 5 appearances 1 goal before being forced to retire from injuries.

A great old fashioned centre forward who was also a prolific goalscorer.

    R.I P. Tony.

Notts County sold us a crock ....medicals must have been crap then.

His ONE goal was a last minute winner away to Brighton if my memory is ok.....

Came on last five minutes and scored ......that goal proved vital in the Third Div championship season.

Saw him batter Lancaster City in a reserve game playing alongside Bobby collins who died recently.

    RIP both....

Surprised Liverpool are not wearing black armbands..he was a bug player for them for a while.

  5. Nah he's not warren feeney bad

He's in the same league as Carlo corrazin clearly a trier but isn't putting the thing in the back of the net consistently enough

I think we all thought he would be Luke Beckett Lee Hughes good.

Bear in mind Feeney was a regular international footballer....God knows how...

  6. I'm sure I remember a game when Bobby Collins got into an altercation with an opposition player and took a swing at him, although I'm not sure whether he connected with the punch! Neither the referee or the linesman spotted the incident! Collins was about 5' 3'' and must have been 40 when he played for Latics.

That was against Rochdale.....Colin Bland ex Burnley centre half had been giving out all day....dirty bugger.....

If i remember right Collins came on ten minutes from end and....jumped two feet in the air and snotted him on the nose.....

Funniest thing i saw.....Bland on his back in the penalty area....

    RIP. BOBBY.....

oh and he was player cioach then.......42 years old...

  7. After nearly watching 31 years of Latics, I have never seen that before.

Trying to hit him in the bollox twice was a :censored:in cheap shot, I still cant quite believe what I saw.

David Shaw hit the Doncaster centre half in the nuts once.......just turned round and punched him in the nuts........that would be forty years so you missed it.....

  8. Queued for bloody hours with my mate to get our tickets for this one. It was an absolute cracker of a game. We were in the RRE with all the Scousers - God knows why we ended up with tickets for that end, but we weren't the only ones. We had a great time with them. They were passionate, funny and generous in their praise for the way we matched them every inch of the way. I think my ribs still ache from a bear hug one of them gave me at the end. IIRC, didn't Bobby Johnstone hit the bar, leaving a big splodge of mud on it, near the end and we all thought it crossed the line before it came back out? Or have I confused it with one of the Liverpool goals?

By the way, if anyone knows Chris Billings who lived in Rochdale and worked at Birch Hill Hospital, he's the mate I was with. Chris was just as big a Latics nut as me. I've not seen him since I left Owdham some 4 years later.

Got my ticket after the home game with Carlisle (I think it was Carlisle) the week before....queued behing the old Broadway stand and they flogged them at the tea bar.......by the time i got to my turn they only had Rochdale Rd left so I missed the collapse.........mayhem 42000 you couldnt make it up.

  9. I think we started so quickly that the midfield burned out by the mid point of the second half - they didn't close down as well as first half and then Wednesday were able to play their way back in (helped by a shocking error from Cisak). Comments elsewhere about Tarkowsky are fair - he isn't strong enough yet, he's not quick and makes mistakes which cost, but he may be one for the future. Croft ran out of steam and couldn't cover - giving their winger too many one on ones, but he was a real threat going forward and his delivery was excellent.. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we manage to get a decent left midfield player and experienced centre back some time soon - I think we'll struggle to get anyone in.

All in all though- it's not all doom and gloom.

Croft ran out of steam...because he is a stone too heavy..............St Johnstone conditioning guy scared him off
