Old Shaws Pallet Works in Diggle

OMBC own 2 front fields and land to right (well they did in 2009 according to interweb

    Wiggett Construction the rest.

Did plan to build school there but it got shelved.

Clearly historic bullding, but that was not a problem in faildswort

Not sure of acreage and land price an issue, but presumably they will want to sell now and some sort of deal could be done.

Covnverting that to Leisure would fit the regen bill

Nimby is an issue in once sense, it;s Diggle, but the number of actual houses near it is tiny.

Anyone know anything else, I cannot find any up to date info<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

P&R took over the factory. Even if it was available it's too expensive/nice an area.

ooo what a good idea...build it in SADDLEWORTH !!! There may well be the odd one or two nimbys in that area dont you think ?

  2. Aye, but in this case he probably wasn't wrong was he? Have you walked around the town in the last few years? It's an embarrassing dump!

Highlight of the week for a lot of people is going in Primark....now that is a depressing dump of a store. The stuff is made by people who are virtually slave

labour thats why its cheap and the no mark Oldhamers flock there....Now if you wash it once..it doesnt fit any more...... but a lot of those who use Primark

seem to have avoided the washing thing as part of their daily routine. The market ???? Enough said.....nothing on it but Islam books and clothes.....

Night out sir ??? OK if you want hitting over the head from behind by a dick. Disgrace...... yet fat face Sykes is beaming away in the paper most nights....

    Police ??? Waste of space....

    CS Officers see above.

Saddleworth ?....Ten bob millionaires most of them...."all top show and jampot ont table"....one of my mums sayings :)

Hill Stores "flagship" Tesco................... 95 percent of customers.....scrotes....85 percent of staff......scrotes

This store has a VALUE booze aisle..............no kidding it has.....

Potato product freezer section.............99 percent chips...1 percent smiley faces...

    Could go on and on...

BUT Latics MUST stay in OLDHAM

  3. i understand your intentions lags i really do....

but im seeing this as political willy waving....brinksman ship.....the owners know the council cant afford to go to court after the vance millar fiasco.....

the council come out to distance themself from it by saying oh we never said it was 100% it would happen...

and now the owners have come out and hinted very strongly about what could happen sooner rather than later....knowing full well they just have to sit back and watch the backlash unfold on the council from anyone and everyone...

the hint that "we cant work with the present administration" says to me they may well be able to work with others after the may elections....

the council are now being forced to open up land it owns, and to give us what we want within the borough....

The council will not give a toss...havent so far so why would they change. Just look at Sykes in the Chron tonight...grinning all over his fat free feed face....

    This town is dead................

Yesterday in 1989 my brother died suddenly...1990 I was sat at Wembley....with his empty seat at the side of me.......he will be spinning.....

Council wanted the club in Oldham then didnt they ? AAAAAAAAAAAAAGRH

  4. No, and for good reason.

I bet there are dozens of tradesmen.

But the will be plasterers, shop fitters, air con engineers, scaffolders and the like

Skilled as they are, and there will be highhliy skilled amonst us, I am not sure many have any experience as stadium [AND leuise facilities] builders. Or that the insurers would let them.

It would be a bit like a getting the landscape gardner to rebuild your house.

This as to be the most insane thread int he history of OWTB.

    It's 606 for goodness sake.

It could be done I suppose..

    ohiostadium-lego3.jpg

Stadium note....the stadium built in Lego is the Horseshoe..Ohio State Footy stadium...holds about 110000.....and it gets full....not bad eh ?

  5. So did my Dad, served as an apprentice there, then carried on and worked for them until a couple of months before it finally went belly up.

He told me once that the site was so big in its pomp that it had it’s own railway line to carry machinery / parts & people around the site.....

I know there are business units on parts of the site now, but surely there is some ‘wiggle room’ on an area so large for re-locating etc.....

I served my apprenticeship there too......also left before it went belly up.

  6. It depends what it is contaminated with, how toxic that is, how much of the land has been contaminated.

To give you some idea how much hassle decontamination takes. They had to decontaminate a farm site (city farm)/allotment in Byker. Its probably only about 10 acres, it took them 3 years to do it. It probably cost the council/whoever somewhere around a million pounds in wage costs alone. Not to mention all the specialist equipment etc.

Decontamination is simply not worth it.

I am not having any of that......bulldozers take off the first few feet then top it with new soil/hardcore.....once its built on it doesnt matter

Environment claptrap yet again......tree huggers rule............

  7. the easiest option looks like redeveloping BP slowly (new lookers, new main stand, new chaddy end) firstly by selling the lancaster club to fund it.

won't happen though because corney reckons it should have been knocked down years ago so i doubt he will be thinking of that and if he does, it won't be his first choice.

BP is a :censored:hole, but it's familiar and it's sad to see it as it is now so if corney finds a way to move the club forward, i can't see it being at BP.

CRAP!!! Chaddy End and Rocdale Rd end rebuilt in 90/91.....no need to do anything yet.

    Broadway side..new main stand...with banqueting......nothing fancy......

Also build ina fitness centre with pool and charge £20 a month membership..undercut DW across the way..they have 7000 members at least

I know I am one.... steal 3000 of them.......£720k a year income..plus energy drinks and all the addons.

Mainstand...keep for now or level and build prefab stand ala Rochdale Rd end.....again..nothing fancy.

  8. you cant stay in a non league style ground the fa wouldnt allow it....

if you look around oldham there is lots of land sat there doing nothing....some might have buildings on it at the moment but could be cleared....the other facilities just need incorporating into the design, thats just engineering.in this day and age you can put parking underground.....you can build upwards etc etc....off the top off my head..

    greengate..massive space available..still local

salmon fields..3/4 empty....relocate existing buisnesses and flatten the land, build there not too far from bp

ferney fields....farmers on his arse.....still local

burnley lane the old japinda products mill is up for demoliton, add in the ground to the side of it which runs down to the back of the rifle range and thats just across from bp

alexandra reatil park....smaller scale but still doable...

it all depends if there is still a strong enough will to carry on,and see it through to the end.....we can spout and shout all we like, but at the end of the day it isnt our money thats being wasted.

Salmon Fields is perfect.................relocate the businesses to.............Failsworth....good motorway access etc etc :) Would be worth doing

a cheap deal for the land :)

  9. Someone replied to one of them last night thought it was funny.

"Did you, Mr Batty? Well done sir. Having said that, I can't help my suspicion that nowhere amongst your "8000-word list of objections" was there any mention of your true motives: "My dog does its mess on that land and I don’t have to bother pooper-scooping," perhaps. Or: "It might affect the value of my house and make me irritable, even though I never plan on selling (unless it goes up)." Or: “Since I hate football and consider anyone who likes it to be a ruffian, I shall weald such power as has befallen me not for the betterment of the majority but for my own personal gratification, and I shall disguise my selfishness by proclaiming my actions are for the good of the people.” Well let’s have a look at your case for, as you put it, “the genuine beneficiaries of this land.” By your own admission, the site has over the last 100 years or so been an industrial clay pit, a golf driving range (I imagine inaccessible to the general walker for health and safety reasons), undeveloped wasteland, and for 40 years a landfill dump, to which, by the sound of it, you’d prefer it to return than become a football stadium. Why? Perhaps when proposals for a country park were made you could suddenly see your house transported to the countryside without paying a single penny for the privilege. What luck! You could pretend you were in The Archers. And the value of your property would surely rise. But plans were reconsidered, by which point you already felt some measure of entitlement. And so you were up in arms, telling planners to keep their hands off “Our Country Park”. Well, I’ve got news for you, it never was a country park, and it certainly wasn’t YOURS! NIMBYs believe land that has nothing to do with them is actually their “back yard”. Well it isn’t. And your 8000 words of protest are no more valid than a dozen words of any of your opponents because you are not worth more than your fellow man. You are not entitled to good fortune. You are a citizen like everyone else. This is as unremarkable a piece of land as is possible to imagine. Were it in the Lake District or the New Forest, I could perhaps understand your wanting to preserve it, but it isn’t. It’s in Failsworth. It will never be Ambridge. Get over it. Or move. I did. Why? Because “I’ve got nowt, but I’m not letting go of it” was an attitude I couldn’t abide. It ensures Failsworth will never be anything other than a miserable, underdeveloped hole, with no features, no prospects, no ambition and no hope. Because of objectionable objectors like you. I’m glad of this decision. You deserve it. Oldham Athletic will do better to look elsewhere for a ground. Very elsewhere. And leave Failsworth to Failsworthians – there’s a clue in the name."

SPOT ON..its all in the name.... I remember the lokes about the driving test centre being in FAILSworth........ I failed once myself .....

  10. Your greenbelt land is fooked, I will lmao when you have a haulage centre 24/7 on your door step - that WILL go through! What comes around goes around you Nimby fook! Same as I hope if BP does bite the dust summat like a Supermarket again 24/7 operations gets built on there. Karma bitches, Karma!

I would offload the land to such a scheme cut rate just to get at the nimbys....something really noisy.

  11. I live here and have done all my life and it is over-populated by decaying walking corpses. Just go in the town centre on a weekday and you'll see what I mean. Oldham's a dying, backward thinking :censored:-hole, full of scroungers and low-lifes. We've been importing everyone else's problems around the north-west for years. I was once proud of my roots, now i'm embarrassed to say I come from this dump. The moment my job situation is sorted me and my family are gone. The only pride that remains is my club, if they move I go with them and will not glance back once.

    You are spot on.......

  12. This is going to sound harsh and maybe pointless but i just want to be objective for a moment.

Do we as a town deserve a club?

There are over 200,000 (according to '01 census http://www.statistics.gov.uk/census2001/profiles/00bp.asp) in Oldham and we manage to pull in around 4000. So it's safe to say the majority of the town aren't too bothered if there is a football club or not.

Our facilities are poor and dated and there doesn't seem to be any improvement in sight despite efforts by the owner(s) over the past decade.

You could argue that things won't really get better because TV has made football a free commodity and even if we go up the majority of people would rather go the pub and watch the premier league than watch Championship football.

I know that we as a fan base deserve a club because we turn up to support the team week in week out but our numbers are more deserving of low end league two not high end league one.

Arguments to the contrary would be very welcome.

Every latic should make a point of ditching any oldham dwelling "friends" who are TV Reds or Blues. Tell them to go to hell and tell them why

  13. Council should sack parker and the fat lad. :ranting:

What about the land behind rifle range/ ferhurst mill.?

What about the land that will be available when counthill/breeze hill merge into the waterhead academy.?

What about wellyhole street/ manor flats.

What about the site where Ikea wanted to build (matalan, bensons beds retail park )

    [/quote

counthill will be sold for high value houses......the council is corrupt.

  14. there is land near moorside cricket club ,i wonder who owns it ? plenty of room to build a new staduim

Beal Valley...............the golf course is way behind schedule.....will never be finished....

    Shaw Royton catchment area

Should have been there sharing with rugby. But of course that is common sense..something that our alleged council do not have.

See we have a new woman and child white elephant in the chron tonight.....makes you want to ....

plenty of permissions for green domes though
