I was genuinely interested as to why BO is vilified every but which way, by it seems 90% of Latics fans. It seems every day, regardless the ill's of OAFC.

I find it interesting that less than 20 member's have actually replied with answers, so I think that say's a lot, there's quite a bit of going with the flow. That's not unusual in life. So any going with the flow people please don't see it as a slur. Lets say 8 have posted their reasons and all genuine to them and who's to say they are wrong thinking that way?.

What I've never liked the whole of my life is the gang mentality,  not just in this instance. It's a sad fact of life this goes on. We've all seen it, someone disagrees or doesn't like someone so they go about poisoning their character to others who are to weak to not be swayed. So on and on it goes.

Whilst I am not here to purely defend BO, am sure he's capable of doing that himself, I will a little. I've spoken to BO a number of times down the years including things I've not agreed with him over. I really do think we should cut him a little slack sometimes. No one gets everything right and we all put ourselves first sometimes, as no doubt BO has now and then.

Just to deal with one or two points that have been raised that might go some way to throwing a different outlook perhaps. The filling of late accounts whilst at the trust coincided with 2 bent accountants being taken to task and subsequent prison terms imposed. Maloney had been arrested for theft of large amounts of money from his employer and Nuttall was convicted and sentenced to prison for theft of Trust monies. So in those circumstances maybe some mitigation

It's very important to remember, BO alleges certainly the last two years of Corney's reign, he, Corney wouldn't work with BO or other board members over financial matters and they didn't know what he was doing. Everyone was finding it hard to know what deals were happening or what monies went where according to BO. BO freely admits that under such circumstances he could, maybe should have resigned. However in his own words he thought it best to remain on the inside in the hope to discover what really was going on. He is still instigating the hunt into what the goings on were. Again some may still insist BO should have known but if someone is hiding stuff, misleading or being secretive it's difficult to know just what that is. At this point I have to say, I don't know the above to be true, It's what BO claims to have happened. I saw it thrown at BO on here many many times he was just a yes man for Corney to keep himself cosy in the boardroom, BO says his relationship was far from cosy.

This due diligence I am sure Al had better qualified people on that one, I know I would have. There is absolutely no way I'd be blaming BO over Al buying a pup.

There's one thing for sure which I am guessing we all agree on, the club is in a right mess. Fragmented, tangled and is going to take one almighty effort to turn it around.

Blame BO for his failings not everything that's all I am saying. I knew this wouldn't be a popular post but I don't need gangs or universal backing, I was just curious who really did have a genuine grievance.

I understand your original post Lags and i suspect that in the grand scheme of things, many of the issues you raise are legitimately answered by your reference to the 'gang' mentality. It's not pleasant in any way. You know that until very recently, i have lived my life reasonably highly in the corporate world, so i draw your attention to the line below that you used as part of your justification for raising the question.

BO freely admits that under such circumstances he could, maybe should have resigned.

BO had one option only (resignation), once he acknowledged Corney wasn't being open about financial 'goings-on' in the last two years (that strongly suggests that financial disclosure practice changed). It's a BS excuse to suggest he wanted to stay on the inside to work out what was happening. As a Director, that is bordering on illegal but is without doubt complete incompetence. Maybe he didn't understand his Director responsibilities but it was and is, his duty to understand those responsibilities, preferably before he took office.

  2. I post very rarely these days, having learned that it is far too easy to make a tit of oneself by typing what you think is sense, to an audience that is likely anything but the mirror you think you are relating to. Overly simplified, there are usually seven or eight types of supporter depending on age, length of time supporting, mental maturity and the positive and negative outlooks among us.

What strikes me as odd over the past twenty four hours or so is how many people seemingly defy their attitude toward players and club in comparison to their behaviour yesterday afternoon. There was a unity among all in the stands....a feel good factor the likes of which i've not seen for a while. There was certainly a connection to the players and staff throughout and particularly at the end of the game. A huge number stayed on after the final whistle for quite a while, and the bond between fans and players was evident.

I'm among the first to admit that we were lucky to get away with 2-0. I'll take issue wuith those who complain we were overrun in the second half, because i believe if we'd gone in 0-0 at HT, we would have adopted different tactics after the break than we ultimately did, having gone in with a lead that yes, flattered us a bit. Despite how it turned out, we take the win and move on, just as we would were it a defeat....but i have to say i saw not one angry man or woman leaving the stadium yesterday....just a jubilant bunch and yes, a few, myself included who were discussing with others the fact that Morecambe were a tad unlucky to come away with nowt.

How it is then, that so many are suddenly aghast at how poor we are, both as a team and as a club. After such a terrific day out and such a feeling of euphoria and unity at the end, this message board today is somewhat baffling. It's almost as if the drive home passed through some sort of barrier whereupon the feel good factor was washed away by the reality of returning to Oldham. It comes across to me as  some strange denial whereby people are embarrassed to have had a good time yesterday!

Yeah. Went there with no hope of getting a win and pulled it off. Feeling the same about this Blackburn game.

Shows what the 'big day out' for the fans can do to the team on the day. Four days later and 6,000 travelled to Everton to see another big win. Swansea, Huddersfield, Brighton and Bournemouth were all in League one that season, it's what keeps us dreaming......and on the other hand, so were Tranmere.

  4. A bit random i know, but do we actually pay any of the four muppets who come onto the pitch at HT with the forks? I loathe to call them groundstaff because they look like they don't know a pitch from a piss. One was wandering round staring at his phone half the time, another was entertaining himself waving at friends in the crowd and the other two looked as interested as Davis in a Thursday night testimonial at Rawtenstall. The pitch IS a bit of a mess and it WOULD have been useful to have groundstaff preparing and maintaining for the second half, especially in the half we were attacking. Fucking wasters!

  5. I am also in Oz and have to write off my Sundays when staying up to listen to LP.

But there is always the other side of the coin. When I lived in the USA, the kick off was 10am Saturday morning. That was great. I could listen to LP and still have Saturday afternoons free.

I know that one Latics fan lived in Toronto for a while, and I and sure he enjoyed 3pm kick offs.

It is just that we in Oz get the rough end of the timeline.

Where in Melbourne are you Ex-pat?

  6. Yep, like i said.....

There are way too many PC wankers (pun intended) waiting to jump on the first 'holier than thou' bandwagon on every internet forum in the world. Get a :censored:ing life or grow up, whichever comes first.

As a side issue Isn't it queer how some people refer to gay folk.....oh :censored:, I can't say that!

  7. Based on the words quoted in this thread, they are racist. They are intended to be racist. They have been interpreted as racist.

Alas, in the context used on Saturday it is racist. It's intended as an insult to a town because of the ethnicity of the population.

I agree. The context of use is important. In this context it is openly racist. I am no bleeding heart liberal but this example goes way beyond unacceptable. There may be ignorance in some of those chanting but ultimately the chants are nasty and racist.

I'm not a "PC :censored:", I assure you.

Don't click on this link on a tablet. Just a PC or laptop with decent spreadsheet capability.

I believe the stats are from 2009 and reflect the metropolitan borough.

    Oldham Pakistani population 14,600

    Oldham Bangladeshi population 10,300

    Rochdale Pakistani population 15,500

    Rochdale Bangladeshi population 3,500

I thoroughly disagree with your definition of racism.

Your sweeping statement about the racial makeup of the two towns is factually bollocks.

    But apart from that ...

Fair enough on the population....should have done some research....on the rest...yeah, i'm right.

  8. As i have a life, i've only just seen this thread. A dose of reality is required. The chants are not able to be deemed racist. You may.....or may not....... agree with such chants, but using words that are short form for a nationality (however distasteful they may seem to you) does not make someone uttering them a racist. The word 'Paki' apart from being a short form of the word Pakistani, is a word often used by the Pakistani community, such as in 'Paki power'

Before any of the do-gooders swoon with abhorrence....i personally don't like it....but....it CANNOT be deemed racist without further context. I could go on and on with hundreds of examples but i'll leave you with just one question to consider before you hit the keyboard with your 'defenders of the earth' rhetoric. Most of you will have at some time or other joined in with this one.....

Should everyone who sings "We all hate Leeds" (and its various other forms) be charged with hate crimes?

There are way too many PC wankers (pun intended) waiting to jump on the first 'holier than thou' bandwagon on every internet forum in the world. Get a :censored:ing life or grow up, whichever comes first.

For those who need to know, the vast majority of the Asian population in Rochdale is in fact Bangladeshi, as it is in Oldham

  9. Just watched the FA Cup final after somehow managing to escape the news while out for a meal.......possibly the most one sided thrashing i can remember. Villa weren't actually all that bad.....just nowhere near good enough. It was like watching a premier league outfit against a good championship team. Shows how far we have to go to even get close.

  10. Geeeeeezzzz.....this, and several other threads of late have descended into previously semi reasonable people (admittedly some of whom regularly fall into the keyboard warrior bracket) becoming complete parodies of themselves in the fight to establish whose balls are bigger than whose. This is a complete and utter storm in a teacup, fuelling the mightier than thou typists into making fools of themselves on a scale bigger than Ben Hur. You :censored:ing wankers......let it drop and get on with being a Latics fan!!

  11. I lived in Norden which is 3/4 mile away from spotland til earlier this year and went to the school closest to the ground. So Ive known a lot of Dale fans.

I can honestly say they don't care about us, not much more than they do for Bradford or Preston anyway. Someone that if they beat, it is a bit sweeter due to to the amount they take and we do, but no real problem with us.

They took 2300 to Bury last year on a night game... They wont bring that to us. That says it all.

A sizable chunk of our fans have a different view. There is genuine level of dislike by some. Why?

My guess is it is because there is a generation of Latics fans who have never seen good times. They need a rivalry or something to keep passions going. Dale have had Bury. We have had nothing.

The fascination of "we will definitely sell out blah blah blah" is tedious. I couldnt give a :censored:. When I hear people mock our support I couldnt give two. Why mock Rochdales? Fair play to their fans, its easy to end up supporting the Red twats around here.

Lets go there and win. Not arsed about if they are rivals or not. For 90 mins they like everyone else - are.

    Spot on Pukka

  12. This should be an interesting match up - I agree with perfectOZblue that the Australian A league is about division 1 level, but Heart are a poor A league team so who can guess the result?

Would like Oldham to search for more Australian players.

They played some great stuff in the second half of the season. I reckon the standard is higher than League 1 at the top end (though not quite championship standard) and and about League 1 standard at the lower end. Most Aussie teams like to play it on the ground and fizz it around quite a bit with good ball skills. It won't be a walk in the park!
