  1. was thinking on somthing which would be a wow factor and also save $$$, this could power the lights hot water under soil heating and so on and with the size of our stadium im sure it will cost allot less then the 152 million staduim bellow as it would be on a smaller scale :).

And the solar energy would come from????

  2. I'd like to know if they'd like ME to stay.

I'm 50 years old and have supported Latics since i was six. I've lost count of the season tickets i've blindly renewed, year after year often simply because i just couldn't imagine not returning whatever the circumstances. It's very unlikely i wouldn't renew again next year but i have to confess that despite being in possession of my ticket, i often need to really drag myself to BP these days.

Fact is.....i'm one of the lucky ones with a disposable income that isn't affected by whether i renew my ticket or not....and even i'm becoming fed up with Latics. What chance those not so fortunate? Well, let me tell you Barry, if i had to make those choices right now, i'd be dropping the sporting love of my life for the telly because there is NOTHING to warrant spending £20+ for what is on offer either on or off the pitch. Huge mistakes have been made. The heart has been ripped out of the matchday experience by taking away first the Clayton arms and second the Lookers. IMHO, those two decisions affect each home attendance by at least 500 spectators, let alone the associated revenue from the bars. I could understand it if Failsworth was a done and dusted deal.....but come on.....huge mistakes.

So....what is in it for me Barry.......what do TTA promise to deliver to keep me interested......then remember i'm one of the lucky ones who you or TTA don't actually have to try all that hard to keep on board......what will the board be doing for the dwindling remainder?

  3. There are some great points on all sides of the debate raised in this topic. One thing missing from the mix is the attitude of the players. Two very average and extremely rusty sides last night put on a very poor show. I think i'd be happier as a Tranny fan in terms of the effort put in. They wanted it to a man (despite being as inept as we were) and will no doubt pull away from the bottom with the kind of team spirit shown. We had nothing in terms of spirit or cameraderie. Players hiding, suicide balls given rather than taking responsibility and absolutely no-one busting a gut. The malaise is widespread at the club and is clearly affecting all facets from players to support. Not a good recipe.

  4. Thought id have a drive over this morning and check out the surrounding areas. All snow has obviously gone and i didn't feel any ice in a good 10 minute walk around the roads, surrounding the stadium. The pitch looked clear of snow, and with no obvious signs of flooding, given an inspection this morning i saw no reason why it would fail one. This is a shambles, and could be huge in our relegation/promotion push as at the moment Stockport have lost 11? in a row? and have very poor players, come the re arrangement they could be on a decent run with a better side. Pure sham, personally our club should have done more to get this game on, yet again it shows how bad we're missing our "funny little bald man" step forward super Alan Hardy. Dave Penney should have demanded the inspection to be moved forward to today, or at least some club official should have.

    You drive?

  5. Stoke was 1979, we were 2-0 down at ht, abandoned then we go and nick the replay 1-0 - typical Latics! (the 2-0 abandoned game was on not long back on Teh big Match replayed on ITV4 - Stoke manager was spewing, Frizz was well pleased at the game being called off!)

Funniest abandonment memory was not involving Latics it was City v Leicester in Jan '95, City were struggling but went 3-0 up on a saturated pitch, the match was abandoned and LEicester won the re-arranged game 1-0!

Playing for Manchester City in an FA Cup fourth-round tie at Luton in 1961, Dennis Law scored six times as City raced into a 6-2 lead, only for the match to be abandoned.

The Kenilworth Road pitch "first resembled a beach with the tide just out, then [there was] deep mud, then a shallow lake," according to one report of the game. "It's not every day that you score six goals," recalled Law. "I never did it again - the most I managed in a game that counted was four, which I got a couple of times. But then the heavens opened. Obviously it wasn't meant to be. The funny thing was when we went for the replay on the Wednesday the pitch was in a worse state than it ever was on Saturday."

As the law of Sod dictates, Law still scored in the second match, only for City to slump to a 3-1 defeat.

  6. Says the sum is believed to be near the 6 figure mark.

I would guess that is true as championship clubs are after him aswell.

Athletic are not revealing the figure they are looking for but it is likely to approach six figures, particularly given the rumoured competition for his signature from Championship sides Scunthorpe, Derby and Peterborough.

As penned by the ever reliable Mr Chambers.......you might as well ask what VIZ think he's worth!

  7. It's not just a case of the pitch either...... in these days of Health and Safety it will probably be called off because it's not safe around the stadium too.

Have you ever walked across the car park to/from Broadway? The snow should help to fill in the cracks and potholes, thereby making it likely safer than without the snow!

  8. jimmy fryatt makes em all look like amateurs a proper no noncense in of mi ed player get in there my son...unmatchable

.....and Shawy alongside...best golascorer we EVER had. Throw in the king of all Geordies for good measure and what an unbelievable strikeforce we had at our disposal. What would you give for just one of those three today Walshy?

  9. While i was out had a cracking though come to me.

100 Oldham fans go to the Manchester X Factor auditions, then after a 1.2.3 burst into a proper rehearsed chant of Pawel Abbott Oldhams number nine (or a different chant)

Will defiently get us some great publicity, and also will surely appear on the highlights show.

    1) The judges will love it as its something different and may even put us through as it wont sound that bad.

    2) It will sound very good, you know what 100 fans in 1 space in 1 song sound like

    3) The crowd will be on there feet singing along causing the buzz in the place

    4) Show our love for our favourite polish striker.

So whats people thoughts, could this work? Has it ever been attempted before?

Can we set up a separate forum for the under 11's please mods?

  10. Well, actually I have. I've seen Latics play in the bottom flight at BP in front of crowds ranging from 2,500 (Hull City in the Third Division North) to 27,888 (Peterborough in the Fourth Division). If many of those present had been told that, one day, we'd be playing in the top flight for three seasons, and make two trips to Wembley, they'd have been well-satisfied and not wanted to return to those depths again.

Ditto....and possibly the best time ever watching Latics were not the glory years of the Royle era....but '71 to '75 with the majority of time being spent in the same league as we are now.....where crowds came back from the brink of similar to today to something akin to what might now delight us....

    .....the difference ?

    A product on the pitch!

  11. (I posted this on the wrong thread.....it might be more in context here!)

I was chatting to a United supporting mate in the back of a cab a few weeks ago (and he's a proper footy fan to be fair to him, goes home and away, Europe, used to watch Latics occasionally etc) and pointed out the proposed site. Firstly he commended the intention, then he raised an eyebrow at the location, then he said "So what's the capacity to be? 20,000?". I sheepishly muttered 12,000. His response? :goggle:

I'd be so much happier if it could be just 25% more - 15,000. For me, the expense would be worth the better perception, status and subsequent prospects, not to mention the additional revenue it could eventually generate.

Generally, i'm in agreement regarding capacity....probably only because i'm old enough to have witnessed the incredible rise in fortunes that saw us sold out every other week during the glory years....but then....i look at Darlington.....quite clearly, they shot for the stars and look at what happened. The general perception is that they are still the small town team they were at Feethams.....only they're stupid to boot!

More realistically, i look at Barnsley....if ever a team were destined to be 'similar' to us in terms of the size of the town, catchment area, two much bigger clubs on the doorstep etc....it's them. Like us, they went up to the hallowed premier league and came tumbling back down again. At least they developed their own traditional ground....but still, even in a division higher than us....they play to a two thirds empty stadium apart from two games a season. Next season, they'll likely get another two with Leeds and Hudds (may lose one with Sheff U)....

Truthfully though, if we manage to get a regular full house at 12,000 and we manage to play at Chamionship level....and both of these things happen in the next 15 years....i'd be absolutely delighted. Chances are, at best we'll get just the second option (and i'll be delighted with that)....so let's get real. There are two options only. The rest is no longer a debate except for those that wish to continue being heard bleating. I'm not happy with Failsworth, nor a limited capacity but as a realist (and one with ears) it's patently obvious that we have only one viable vehicle for change. Bleedin' get behind it!!
