  1. I may have mentioned this before but wasn't that the game when Ronnie Blair scored with a cross but it wasn't seen by the officials because it hit the section of goalpost which used to hold the net back from the actual goal posts themselves...???

Yes, but we still won! A great day.

By then the capacity was down to about 27000 and the RRE was no more than 10,000. And all the Red Army went quiet when Skippy Whittle put that penalty away.

  2. Former residents of JKLatics will know of this odious scrote.

He's still spouting on the Gillingham site and outlining where to drink. Announces the Clayton Arms has closed down but his knowledge (as usual) of why is a little scratchy.

Wouldn't it be nice to bump into him?!

Dont know the full reason Im presuming JW Lees pulled out amidst all the rebuilding fiasco.

Pubs near the ground are relatively horrible to be blunt.

  3. oooohhh!!! Who made you the Ronnie Moore police?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I was just responding to Ross's comment that we owe Ronnie a debt for uncovering Taylor, it could quite easily have been another of the yoof that made the step up that day, we could all now be debating why Baguley can't clear the first man at corners. It was luck that Taylor got the nod rather than a masterplan.

Hope your Gran is ok, must have been a terrible shock to the family to have a nasty incident like that happen. I always knew that Ronnie Moore was a bad 'un but even I thought grannie bashing wasn't his style. Granniesha....... now thats a different matter, she should count herself lucky!

Never mind that. How's the lorry driver?

  4. That's got to be the first time we have had two full internationals on the pitch at the same time hasn't it?

I was thinking the same. If so, that is quite a significant achievement.

When was last time we fielded two current internationals in the same Latics team, as we will do on Saturday (probably) ?

  5. Didnt get your PM...

Hasnt there been a overal increase in attendences in the football league over the last four years as well ?? Something that your line dosent take into account......

The percentage of the attendance buying programs is the key factor....not the overall amount of programs sold....can you send me a link to your stats....

Im pritty sure overall attendance in the football league as gone up by alot more than 3% over the last four years resulting in a actually drop in people buying programs.....

Also the last three/four years dosent show / prove my point wrong.....if since about 2000 they have gone up my point would be wrong....I reckon you would see quite a big decrease in the number of people buying them factored against attendence since the internet.....

    I don't have a link . It is from a magazine ! (ironic ).

I disagree with you. End of.

  6. There is a massive difference betweem "not at all" and "little"....your understanding of the english language is poor....

Little is suggesting that some people still buy it but I belive they are collectors and the people that arrive early.... I very much doubt the take up in the ground is at all big...but it is certainly big enough to warrant doing it.....

My thrust is that on the whole the program is not relevant and is of little use....and I belive the majority of people belive this exspecially since the internet contains so much information and is one of the first sources of information....

Your trying to put words in my mouth and steer the thrust instead of taking it as read....

    Now post your stats....

At least you are not shouting. I think we may be in danger of boring other people (and each other). I find your argument flawed and contradictory , you think i am incapable of understanding.

You wont buy progs, I will - and so will lots of others.

As reported in PM , "A sample of 56 Football league clubs in recent survey shows that there has been an average increase of 3.2% in numbers of progreammes sold and an increase of 6.8% in income from sales and advertising from programmes from season 2003/4 to 2005/6".

  7. I DIDNT SAY THAT AT ALL !!!!!

I said of "little use or relevance".....if you want to read someones post and take it EXACTLY as typed then be prepared to have it thrown back in your face....

Your getting very eat up and personal about something that is not all that important....I think my OPINION is there to see.....its only you that is trying to read between lines and put words in people mouths....

I dont know why people like you come on here.....your not hear to debate your just here on a wind up....its very childish....

EDIT: Where are these stats....no doubting your point of view that they have gone up but I would like to see them.....

    Shouting too....

Calm down and read what the thrust of your "opinion" is. And "little" use or relevance hardly alters its thrust.

Will give you exact stats as soon as I dig them out.

As for Pming me - if you choose to comere on the board , expect to get replied to on it.

  8. Bloody hell mate....grow up abit.....

People collect them.....I guess thats why....and some people get to the ground early and want something to kill the time.....but IN MY OPINION (if thats ok with you) programmes are of little use or relevance since the internet came of age.....

I guess they still do them because enough people still buy them.....but I doubt the numbers are all that high these days.....specially considering the price and with the INTERNET (just thought id spell it out) the news in it is usally out of date before it is printed.....

My my. Anyway, if progs are of no interest or relevance why is it , and these are your words , "enough people still buy them"?

No problem with your opinion - that they are of no relevance or interest to you. But the way in which you then make an ex cathedra statement that they are of no relevance or interest at all is not the same thing.

You make your choice about whether to buy them or not , fair enough, but the stats about programme sales across the Football League are that the last three years has seen an increase in sales. Despite the internet.....

  9. Div 4 promotion team 1970-71.

A kit that was Bates idea and overturned nearly 70 years of Latics traditions of blue and white - and 60 years of the distinct broad blue and white "thirds" shirt.

Tangerine -nice as an away kit but a heinous crime as main kit.

BTW - Jim Bowie was 6' 2", quite a way shorter than players like Ormondroyd , pogs etc. Players were generally less physically developed in those days. Look at keepers , a 6ft tall goalie was big. Alan Hopkinson a good England keeper just 5' 10".

    Rationing!

  10. Programmes are of little use of relevance since the internet came of age.....

and at £3 I would rather get a burger meal deal :)

So why do clubs still produce them and why do people still buy them? I know this board is about opinion but your insular and self opinionated stances are .......

  11. The programme is regularly voted one of the best by the magazine Programme Monthly and I have to agree. There's a good deal of historical content, the feature on the away team is always good, and there's a strong layout.

£3 is not cheap - but neither is it exorbitant. Well done Gordon Lawton on production and content. (And I have a feeling that the club may have done its sums on the x at £2.50 or y at £3....they're not commercial muppets)

  12. pinning lots of hope on the kids. People keep bringing up the 4500 fans argument, i understand that, however if you look around the league one and two attendances its pretty even apart from the likes of Nottingham F, Swansea, Leeds etc. Are you telling me we dont scout the lower divisions or cant afford the likes of Bishop, Elding ect?????? Behave. I think it might have something to do with the lack of contacts our manager may have in the managerial game???? Just a hunch

Elding - £200K plus nice Leeds wages. Clubs at League 2 aren't giving people away, and players' agents are looking for the best deal for their clients. What we can offer is not just about transfer fees it is about a salary cap - and 4500 gates don't help that.

As for Shez contacts - I think your "hunch" is well off track. It's a prejudice unless you can show some rationale for it. Every manager has his networks - but it's not the manager who determines the selling price. It wasan't Alan Irvine and Shez agreeing the price of Trotters. Just as it wouldn't be Shez and a mate agreeing the price of a player Latics might fancy.

  13. If the guy does it in the first team..who cares about training? Conversely, are we only going to play yes men and those who train hard? What has happened to skill? I guess it is down to man management.... and dare I say that is why so few came through via Mr Urmson.

Sorry Alec but Billy Urmson's record at bringing kids through stands comparison with anyone. He was respected by every manager he worked under at BP, and by players, managers, and coaches at other clubs too. He was a taskmaster but he devloped many league players.
