  1. That Skuse fellow is bound to have an eye for a pass; I mean, Shez is always on about bringing in a creative man in midfield, so I imagine he's that type of player.

However, I am now actually getting rather annoyed by the amount of promising names being linked with us, albeit from sources which I'm a tad sceptical about, yet we seem to be making as much progress as a sprinter with one leg. What also is annoying me is Sheridan's words. I know he may be finding it very difficult bringing in his targets, but he has got to stop mentioning them. The fans start to think there's a guy around the corner, waiting to sign, then 2/3 days later we're left disappointed.

We've 10 days, if someone is waiting to see what else may crop up from other clubs, then :censored: 'em. I don't want players who'd rather play elsewhere if they received more money.

I can see us rushing on the 30th/31st Jan, bringing in 2/3 players who simple aren't good enough, because we laboured, or stuck with a player, who took his time sorting out personal terms with us.

Most of the names being mentioned are by fans not the club! So Sheridan isn't naming anyone, so can't stop doing what he isn't1

  2. One potential deal fell through when Athletic enquired about a Championship striker who does not play regular first-team football and were told he is paid £7,000 per week.

We all read that in the Chron on Wednesday and there was some talk that this was Leon Clarke. I don't think it can have been. We had him on loan last season and would have known what his wage was then when we agreed terms for that period. So perhaps the Clarke saga still will rumble on, maybe for a further loan, maybe a proper transfer.

    Or maybe not.

  3. Putting in about £700,000 per year to cover the losses could be said to be an impressive "doing their bit" by TTA. And they've said the money will be there for the right purchase - that means at a proper price and with wages that we can afford (and that don't break the salary cap on the club as a whole).

  4. Davies is symptomatic of modern day young footballers, in it for themselves, materialistic and just looking for the next contract. It's why the game has become the banal, 24 hour Sky corporate :censored: a lot of us hate.

He's got talent or he wouldn't have made it this far but he won't get much further unless he becomes a team player.

If you doubt his desire to be a team player you weren't at Leeds. He ran himself into the ground holding the ball, chasing it etc.

  5. The manager when I first started watching in 1960 and the architect of the revival that saw us move out of perennially near the bottom of Div 4 to promotion with an average home gate of 14000.

Brought some very astute signings to the club - the star was Bobby Johnstone of course, but others like Bert Lister, Ken Branagan, Alan Williams, Jimmy Frizzell, Johnny Colquhoun - and they not only won promotion in 1963 but gave Liverpool a fright in the Cup in 1962 in front of 41733 at Boundary Park.

Fell out with the directors and went to coach at Ajax! Returned in late 60s but didn't have the same success. Ran a newsagents in Shaw for a while.

Always approachable and had a massive influence on the history of the club. Without his excellent management from 1960-63 the Latics may have gone out of the league.

    Brother of the legendary Arthur.

  6. Tangerine and blue must definately stay. I would love it to be the home and away kit. Who says we have to play in something different away unless the opposition decides to play in tangerine too. Its obviously a lucky kit, seeing as we keep winning in it.

No, no and thrice no. Our home colours are blue and white!!!!

  7. [

Latics have never had an identity in terms of a kit - which is a shame. The red/blue hoops was awful, but tried to reflect an old blue and white hooped shirt from long ago. If at that stage they had gone for blue and white hoops and stuck with it it might have been better.

Sorry Scapegoat, simply not true. From about 1907 throught to 1967 we had distinctive blue & white "thirds" most of the time. There was an exception in the immediate post war period when, for a couple of seasons, we played in Red & white hoops (not blue & white). Kit was hard to come by, clothing ration coupons still required, and we borrowed shirts from Oldham Rugby. And in 1959/60 it was basically a blue shirt with white sleeves and white v-neck.

Ken Bates shifted to tangerine and blue ( a look that was at the time criticised as looking like "Mexican generals") and when we came back to blue and white it was a non-distinctive design initially.

  8. Can't see Hughes being one. Still only had a relatively few games back at fitness, is 31 and still has perceived baggage. More likely to be Eardley, Davies, and , despite not having had a wonderful season, Taylor.

PS The Chron says they are first team regulars. Now there's a surprise - I thought it might be players who can't catch ....

  9. its our talisman away from home this season, and is the traditional colours of oldham athletic.

    any thoughts????

Nonsense - the traditional colours are blue and white. We had a brief period under Ken Bates in tangerine (about 6 years only).

As an away kit then we wore tangerine in the late 50s and early 60s but don't confuse the issue!

  10. The minimum price is £15 which has to be agreed by both clubs. What's £2?? Go in the paddock if you want to save a couple of quid.

Hear hear! I'm a season ticket holder because it works out cheaper over the season, I get first choice for all ticket games , and it helps the club. I know at the beginning of the season that I will have tp pay normal prices for extra games. There's no justification for me getting a big discount for cup matches.

  11. I think people are underestimating the numbers that Huddersfield will bring. They have a big feelgood feeling after the Birmingham result, will think they've got a good chance against us, and get about 9000 to every home match . We would expect to fill their away end and I 'd be very surprised if they don't easily sell 3/3500. Latics will I reckon allocate the big section of the RRE to them initially and then take a decision on the small section nearer the day. Floating Latics supporters will probably leave it to the last week to get their tickets so there won't be a clear indication of home demand till nearer the day - and probably there'll be pay on the day.

  12. Coming out of the NSM yesterday a man , late 50s /60s said loudly, "Davies was terrible today" to his wife. I laid into him I'm afraid I was just so sick of criticism of someone who sometiimes makes the wrong decisions but has talent, guts, energy and potential He had absolutely roasted his marker created opportunities - and , yes, was to greedy at times. But " terrible" - absolutely bo**ocks. Why do people see a glass that isn't even wet?

  13. i dont agree he was playing his best again, i agree he was improving but he wasnt at his pre febraury form.

why cant he be trusted sat in front of a back 4? i fail to see that arguement. he can win headers there, jog about, kick a few people whisper stuff to them, pull their armpit hairs and all the other stuff he loves to do. then when he slips or tackles himself there are five more bodies behind him rather than just one.

yes stam made a mistake, a mistake, A mistake i acknowledge people make mistakes and i am trying to accomodate what i percieve to be more enevitable mistakes.

and the blind, stupid part of my quote was a step to far but its because i strongly feel it is a big risk. if any offence has been taken, i appologise.

I do hope we're not going towards the bad days of the jklatics site when we had to wade through abuse of players expressed in a barely articulate manner. I get the point daznathe , you don't rate Gregan.

However, just before his injury lots of people, including Shez, were applauding his play as being back up there and we were worried when he was ruled out. The Stam/Trotman/Hazell combination has done well and that's great. Each makes mistakes, every player does, and probably no less than Gragan does.

We are conceding less goals but I'd put that very much down to Eardley recapturing his form and Bertrand developing as a defender. Most goals conceded early on came from the flanks, and now that that has been tightened up we look much more solid. (Credit to to Taylor in this respect in the cup).
