Q: Have we made any enquiries about loan players yet?
DU: No. I think it was necessary last year when I came in, the squad in my opinion at the time needed major heart surgery. The way we did that last season was loaning players. Some came off, some didn't. The health of the club now is that we don't need to enter that market. We might need to but what we've targeted is a smaller nucleus of players. I want a core group to work with from day one. At the moment we haven't looked at (loans)
Didn't he say we might sign a couple of loanees last week?

Wow. That's depressing. Some of them look 13-14 yo. I feel very old...

Grigg is an odd one. Shouldn't be anywhere near past it at 31; He doesn't seem to have suffered much in the way of injury but his goals per game rate in the last few seasons has fallen off a cliff
His fire has been extinguished.

My brother reckons Halifax in exchange for Golden.
Absolutely no evidence or substance whatsoever.
Rochdale. He wants to get as many Greater Manchester teams under his belt as possible. It'll be Alty by Christmas and then FC United after that.

I doubt this. I think Tollitt will be used from the bench. He’s a luxury player for me, but he has to work on his game off the ball. He was a massive weakness defensively, struggled to pick up runners on throw ins and a piss poor tackler. However, with a game locked at 0-0 with us well on top he’s a great attacking option to sling on.Have to agree. he's a lazy git. Doesn't back-track. Saw it time and time again. But, he has attacking/creative ability. Impact player. We need to be able to mix it up. When it's 0-0, he can pull off a worldy.

So here’s my interpretation of who’s in, and who’s out….
1. Norman
2. Hudson
3. Sutton
4. Shelton
5. Hobson
6. Hogan
7. Kitching
8. Sheron
9. Couto
10. Gardner
11. Lundstram
12. Tollitt
13. Green
14. Ward
15. Hope
16. Fondop
17. Reid
18. Willoughby
19. Nuttall
20. McGahey ( Recovering from injury)
Out:
Rotweiler
Rooney
Burgess
Windass
Luamba
“Still 2 or 3 to be added plus loans.”
I'd agree with that. The only question for me is Hope or Rooney. Rooney can give us more in terms of quality, but Hope is a grafter and a team player. Rooney is stroppy. McGahey should leave when he recovers. I think we need 2 players for every position, plus a couple who can offer us something different. So I think we need two RBs, one CB and two wide players. Rhino was a bit vague (19-20, plus two in asap and then maybe a couple of loans later on).
Either way, we have the vast majority of the squad in place, and I can't remember the last time that happened. Didn't we have to recruit 22-23 players when Robinson was made manager? As for last year, I'm still waiting for the stellar signings...

Scunny have made the Ogle bid public for a reason. It alerts others and pushes up the fee they can get for him. I’m sure we didn’t want that info getting out so but of gamesmanship on their part I’d assume.
They’re clearly in a stronger position after their takeover and will sell at the right price. Just as we would next season with our better players on decent contracts. We might not get him, based on our valuation of the player but I’m sure 2-3 players for that position have been identified.
Again, we’re looking at hungry players who can and will make that step up through the divisions rather than those that have enjoyed careers at a higher level but have either lost a yard, lost their way or just looking for a home to ride out their last few years. So much different to previous recruitment strategies!
...or lower league French players. We've come a long way in a short time.

“The Iron has today rejected an offer from Vanarama National League side Oldham Athletic for defender Reagan Ogle. As previously stated, Reagan remains firmly in Jimmy Dean's plans for the 2023-24 season.”
From Scunthorpe OS.
Player of the season.
Described on wiki as a rhino type:
Ogle predominantly plays at right-back but is a versatile footballer who can also play at left-back, centre-half and as a central midfielder. Upon signing for Scunthorpe, he described himself as "very athletic, quick and strong and like to put in a tackle". He is also known for having a long throw-in.
There's a clear pattern to our signings, which shows that some thought has gone into it. We are so far away from the last few years.

Exactly. I mean, WTF. Please, NO.
As for the burgundy one, I don't mind it as much as most, but copying a City kit? Really? I'm not wearing anything that might be mistaken for the oil subsidised plastics.

He's struggled to put firm roots down and to achieve something. This was his chance to build an actual career. He's not been tearing down any trees in football. Personalyl, I think he's been a bit stupid. We were offering stability.
Never mind. It's a buyers market. Just a shame we didn't move for Jameson when had the chance...

Well the Right Back won't be Grimshaw, he's signed for Dundee United.
Yes, Grim's up north. Never mind, we'll get someone soon.

I think if we can get him fit, and thats a big if, he can do a job at this level.
Yes, but in the relegation season, when he did play he looked really unfit. I was shocked about his age. He's slow. His injury record is poor. Scunny fans pointed that out when we signed him. I won't be gutted if he stays, as I can imagine he could be ok if he ever gets properly fit, but, as you say, it's a big 'if.'

Does the Hobson signing mean Yarney is on his way out?
I hope not. Yarney, Hobson, Hogan and Sutton - wow, that's strength in depth.
The oil tanker needs to go.

Hobson and Grimshaw are both from the north-west, which might be a bonus i.e. they'll be coming home and getting settled won't be a problem, quite the opposite.
This is really coming together. But if we sign Grimmy we will only have one RB (I'm not counting Windyass) one LW and one RW, which might suggest a 4-3-3 formation, as a few have mentioned?

Everything is on a totally different level. All the signings in this close season have been quality. Love the Legends Lounge. To think where we were only 12 months ago.

I agree, but he was still much better than the other two right backs we had. Young players being played out of position for a short while is not necessarily a bad thing in terms of their education. I remember Richard Graham. A very talented CB. Huge potential. Such a shame about his injuries. My point is that the first time I saw him, Big Joe played him on the left-wing in a friendly. Then, later, at high-back. When he moved to centre-back he was quality. I really think his experiences in different positions made him a better player.
I think he's done his stint at right-back, but, when he was briefly shifted to centre-back, he did look a better player. He should now stick to centre-back.
