  1. On a serious note, there will be loads of tickets available if they give us the 6,000 that we had last time.

Agreed. Don't think we'll top 5000 this time.... If we do, it wont be by many. Only due to the fact we've played there relatively recently.

There'll be plenty of tickets to go round. Also, it's worth pointing out that just cos you're last in line doesn't mean your seats will be worse. Sometimes, those who buy them later can be more central.

Everyone will just need to chill, there won't be anyone ticketless, even if season tickets holders and voucher holders get 2 each.

  2. Its interesting to read peoples views on whether they would like to look at, or sit in the new stand, when it arrives.

Personally, I feel that interest will out strip supply if the pricing structure remains similar to what is currently in place.

As such, I would've thought the price of tickets in the new stand will be pitched at a level which will ensure some punters will remain where they are. Otherwise every man and his dog will be clamouring for tickets in the new stand.

On the basis there will be conference facilities in the new stand, this will, I would've thought, open up a new type of ticket option ie pre match meal, drinks and match ticket. I'd have thought these ticket holders would get the seats on the half way line.

Then there will be the box holders, who will no doubt have a couple of rows of seats in front of the boxes.

The rest of the seats will probably then be match tickets only, with access to much improved facilities, bar, tv highlights etc - I wouldn't be surprised if these are pitched at £150 - £200 more than current main stand upper prices. After all, the club have held prices for a long spell. In retaining the prices elsewhere in the ground, punters will still have the choice to retain there outgoings at current levels by staying where they are.

  3. It's no wonder that the forgotten legend remains to be...... Erm, I've forgotten.

Oh yes, my first choice, Andy Barlow. Local lad came good, loyal, was here through the glory days, was the player felled in the box which lead to the redfern pen. And most of all, introduced me to the oldham delicacy, pudding on a muffin.

  4. Cast your minds back to January.

It was certain that Baxter was on his way. We had enjoyed his services for a few months however it was clear that he was one of the best talents we'd had at BP for quite some time. I personally spoke to a number of scouts in the crowd at the time who, to a man, said he wasn't good enough for the Championship - two of them said they had been tracking him since his Everton days. I disagreed at the time, thought he was able - probably just needed a break.

Credit to Simon Corney, we agreed a 2 and a half year contract for the lad - greeted with amazement by the BP crowd. Baxter held ALL the cards at the time. SC has gone on record stating he wished the trigger could have been higher, however, we had to be grateful for what we had. I think we all agreed, it was great business.

JB was instrumental (with a little help from Smith and others) in great cup runs and survival. He showed his attributes in abundance, great touch, eye for a pass, however he did show at times why the scouts hadn't gone for him - lack of team spirit (only sometimes) ie tracking back etc.

It's interesting that its another L1 team that has signed him - still the Championship clubs remain shy.

Personally, I've enjoyed watching him, but his departure comes at a time when we are in decent shape. As such i am not so worried. if the fee is £350000 then thats great business and far more than I expected. Korey Smith can now shine. He has played in the shadow of JB and has been rock solid since he first signed. Sure we need back up in the central area, but Korey and Wes looks good to me.

I wish Baxter well. We were good for him, and he was good for us.

  5. Latvian given a 1 year contract (presumably thoroughly researched) who doesn't figure is a waste of a wage.

    LJ's first mistake perhaps?

More likely to be second. First impressions of Sidney ...... Lets just say room for improvement, hopefully once settled true form will prevail.

  6. Montano, Smith,Tarkowski, Rooney, Oxley my picks, no one played badly, Mellor did ok on the ground. but didn't deal well with crosses.

    Really ?

I worried about Tarky last year. This year, without the steadying hand that was Mvoto, I am doubly concerned. Was at total fault for their second goal. Lost possession whilst too far up the field and never recovered. If I see him wave both his hands in the air like a oil stained bird attempting flight one more time ........ Grrrr

For me, both Mellor and Tarky need replacing. Feel sorry for Mellor as what was a promising end to last season playing in his preferred role has been ruined.

I do think LJ has assembled what looks like to be a decent squad, with the obvious exception, however the lack of presence at the heart of our back 4 will undoubtably cost us.

  7. Thanks for the memories.

He had a hand in everything that was good about last season. Liverpool, Everton, Bury, to name but a few. I have to admit, I thought he was a cart horse at the start of the season, some say he still is - thankfully, he came good at important times.

Good luck - he's living the dream.

  8. I'm really tired of this scapegoat. It's always the "kids." Not long ago, I was one of those "kids" watching the likes of Neil Kilkenny and Lewis Alessandra slot in the odd goal between their on and off stints. My last year of being one enabled me to get a season ticket for a nice 50 pound, which seemed more than reasonable. But now I'm older, I dislike shaving every other day and I have to fork out 20 pound a week.

Let's start at the beginning: Latics has a large following of young supporters which attend the home games week-in, week-out. They are the next generation of people who will go to watch Oldham and grow up to be the likes of the well-known on here. They'll be the fans who are "proper" fans - not just the odd Oldham favourer. Now their lives will consist of good football outside of Boundary Park, as it did for me. Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, Messi, Van Persie, the Champions League, etc.. Today their football world is the biggest and brightest spark in the match box. It's pumped on steroids and fed to them through Sky or the FIFA game series.

A lot of fans seem to find their actions a bit too extreme or not worthy of Latics' standards. A lot of fans also don't mind it and find it great that we have an energetic, willing-to-sing following of young people. But when something goes balls-up, it always seems to land on their heads. Especially in terms of today's running on the pitch. They've now been handed this "vandal" label which will be "reviewed on CCTV" for simply running on the pitch. How many Latics fans would be able to say they never did it? I certainly ran on the pitch was younger and got to meet Chris Taylor in the process. It was all harmless fun in keeping up an age-old tradition. We caused no damage and neither did the large group who ran on today, so it seems. But they still receive this negative label and those complaining are so stupidly commenting like it would never have happened.

    It happens every season!

No matter how many stewards you put there, kids will still run on, and for those saying what they should and shouldn't do it is just as much as their club as it is yours. Don't force what you believe on other people - especially those with a wild spirit for a wild club.

And this stupid stunt from the club is such a shamble that we should be laughing at it. They're now pretending that the 10 quid ST was a permanent move... What a load of bull:censored:! We should be blaming the club for this stupid act. It was just a punt to try and bring in more fans but, of course, those dangerous 14-year-olds need to be punished for stepping on the grass! If anything, we should now be poking fingers at the club showing how much they really care about the future of Latics. They moved it down clearly knowing this would happen. You have to remember that Oldham Athletic is a business and like any business it can pull quick ones. I wish we had a cup run which earned us around 1 mil to pay for such a fine... Oh wait!

The treatment they receive from stewards is also pathetic. When I went to watch the MK Dons match, it was almost shocking to see the drummer getting his drum taken off him just for drumming... And what made it worse that another fan was kicked out just for trying to intervene - nothing violent, nothing aggressive. Just reasoning with them. As for the police filming these 14-year-olds, is that REALLY what it's come to? Do they have to face being watched like a group of prisoners on their break? The biggest act they commit is that of standing up because they want make some :censored:ing noise. Without them, Boundary Park would be dead apart from the loyal people in the Chaddy or the Rocky Road heroes. How will treating fans like this encourage our already low attendances to nudge up a little?

Passions get high during games and expressing it is being clamped down on with each match that passes. The youngsters of today will not be the future of tomorrow if this carries on. The memories of being kicked out, told to sit down and having your drum taken away won't produce any more fans than it will enemies.

Man United and City are just a Sky channel away. It seems our club are handing them the :censored:ing remote.

    Done.

Please someone, send this guy a remote

  9. oh well a small minority of fans in the rocky road causing trouble as given the board a perfect excuse to cancel a offer for kids as others said it appears a decision had already been made anyway..shame my daughter was enjoying going with her friends with tickets i had bought she did not invade the pitch but i can't afford to pay much more for two tickets, shame for my son's teammates who have got more into latics this year but won't probably be able to go next year they did not invade the pitch, shame for all the local junior football teams who had given their kids season tickets who won't be able to afford that next year i bet the majority of them did not invade the pitch but on the bright side the club think they have got rid of the problem so will no doubt be delighted with their decision even though i guarantee you next season just like the previous 30 years of watching Latics there will be a pitch invasions at the last game.

    Not during the game though.

Like a previous poster said, all of a sudden the £10 offer isn't seen as a gimmick but as an entitlement. I'm sorry, but if you think that £2 a game for watching league football isn't a good incentive then you are deluded

  10. Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'm afraid he's not one for me.

Seems to have a fair bit of industry, can't knock him for a lack of effort, which is commendable, however in terms of an eye for goal, he hasn't shown anything in my opinion. He's neither a poacher, fox in the box type or target man.

One of those players who seems to get there half a yard after the ball has gone. No doubting he's tried though, but such a low return in goals to games speaks volumes. Maybe a longer run with Smith may have seen better results.

  11. Fair play to Leeslover for getting in touch with the club to stop the rumours or rumors if you're American.

lets hope it placates the tossers (tossors if you are American) who quite evidently appear to despise any type of authority figure.

Have an opinion sure, but start throwing out insults only when you've got a million or so to flush down the drain yourselves.
