  1. It is Latics only realistic chance of ever getting to Wembley again.

Yep, most of these players will never get a better chance to play at Wembley in their careers and a lot of our fans have never seen Oldham play there. I'm sure that Lee Johnson would love nothing more than to walk the team out in the JPT final.

Given the number of games clubs play in the league, FA Cup and League Cup already.

I hope we go out in the first round and concentrate on the stuff that matters.

We've played one league cup game and we're out of that. I know it has been kind to us in the last few years, but the FA Cup offers no guarantee of progression, we could easily go out in the opening round. Same could be said of the JPT, but the benefit is that most teams don't seem to take it too seriously in the first few rounds. It's too early to say how the season will turn out for us, but if we're struggling on confidence a possible Wembley appearance will help massively. Winning breeds winning and it's a confidence booster for everyone, the club, the fans, the players and the manager. Everyone.

JPT is only an extra 6 or 7 games, depending on whether we get a bye in the first round or not.

I say it every year, this is a meaningless cup that just gives us unnecessary injuries and suspensions. Even if we won it it is like shagging a minger, yes you have got your oats but you certainly wouldn't tell anyone.

What circumstance do you come out on top of a conversation that contains the line - "..yeah but we won the Johnston's Paint Trophy in 2014." You've already lost if you get to this stage. If you want to go to Wembley go there, it has its own tube stop or you can see it from the road as you drive by but I for one have no desire to be put through the rigmarole of ticketing issues, travel expenses, complaints about lack of merchandise, wrong merchandise, not being able to buy merchandise in the as yet unfinished Sport Direct shop in the stand, not being able to buy a "Latics, 2014 Johnston's Paint Trophy finalist" scarf in the Sport Direct shop in Runcorn or any of the million and one arguments that would spill out of a run in this pointless fixture list clogging embarrassment.

Other than seeing England play, the only other team I'd want to watch at Wembley is Latics. Otherwise there is no point in going. Nothing compares to seeing your own team walk out at Wembley....nothing, regardless of the competition. Play offs...maybe, but as above it is too early in the season to know where we will be in the league come May.

Last time I checked, football is about winning trophies, something we haven't done for a while. I'd love nothing more than to see the JPT on display at Latics.

  2. I have too many football shirts, all are Sizes L or XL.

    Latics Pink away shirt

    Latics Monkey sick yellow away

    Latics blue/red hoop home shirt

    Latics blue 'slumberland' home shirt

    England Euro 2000

    England France 98

I'll be at the Leyton Orient home game next week, so could meet in the pub there to hand the shirts over. Send me a message if interested.

  3.

Bradford got to the League Cup Final from the league below us last season.

As for it being our only chance of many fans seeing us at Wembley - I think I'd feel differently if we got to a playoff final first.

Our first time at Wembley since the last FA Cup Semi being the JPT Final would probably depress me greatly.

And who is the last 4th division team to get to a League Cup final...Rochdale I think, in 1962. God, I hate Rochdale. So every 50 years we might have a chance at Wembley? I'd take 50 JPT final wins over those odds.

I went to Maine Road & Wembley in 1990 & Maine Rod & Wembley in 1994. I'd be proud to see Latics play there again regardless of the competition. Wembley should be the pinnacle for any footballer & fan.

  4. Absolutely keep it. It is the only realistic chance right now that we have and even players at this level have of ever seeing Wembley.

As for the game rule, there is nothing wrong with it. - "Clubs have to start six of the 11 players who played in the match immediately before or after the Trophy game or the six players with the most appearances for the club to date that season.".

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23848217

Kill it with fire and then nuke it from space. Pointless, horrendous and an absolute complete waste of time. There are 2 cup competitions that we are automatically entered into we don't need a third, the line that "it gives us :censored: teams a chance of Wembley" doesn't wash with me, we have 3 chances of Wembley as it is, if we want to play there then we need to be better and do it in a proper cup or play-offs.

The rule that so many players from your previous games have to play is an abomination, no competition should dictate which players get a game. All this competition does is create injuries, bookings and cold toes.

    Get rid.

We have 2 chances - Play offs & JPT trophy. At our level and our current ability, that is it.

FA Cup & League Cup - Forget both, these are at best payday games where we might get a draw with a top side, or more likely we'll get a crappier side and go out at the first hurdle. We must never ever plan on seasons like last year or 89-90.

The rule is 6 players from the previous league games, I agree no rules should dictate who should play, however just over 50% of the previous team is not a stretch.

Get rid of the Premiership clubs from the League Cup - after all it is the Football League cup and they are not in the football league - then play a triophy just for the 72.

Realistic chances of doing well, less risk of being insulted by United's third team.

This actually is a good idea as some Prem teams have been looking for a way out of the League Cup for a while now. I think if the sponsors walkaway from the comp, the teams will follow.

As for the carrot...."Wembley"....that is the carrot.

  5. Hi,

I am looking to get a sew-on club crest, be it the new or old version. Called the club shop and they don't sell them.

I do have quite a few old shirts, but I'm not keen on cutting those up.

Does anyone know where you can get them?

  6. 1860 Munich play when I'm over there in March.

Has anybody been there (or to watch Bayern)? Any tips on where to get tickets for etc..?

For Bayern, next to near impossible to get tickets for league games. You could try and go up to see if anyone is selling spares, but it's unlikely.

For 1860, you can just turn up and buy tickets on the day. There will be stand numbers above each kiosk so that you know which area of the ground you are queuing for. I usually buy online via http://www.tsv1860-ticketing.de, my German is not the best, fortunately though it's easy to follow online. Plus you can choose your seats, when you queue you get handed whatever seat is first in line. I'd plump for blocks 240/241, which is above the Nordcurve where all the hardcore fans sit and right behind the goal.

The other thing you'll need to grab on the day is a stadium card as the food & beer kiosks do not accept cash. The cards are free and you put on whatever cash you want to spend on the day, you'll see people queuing inside the stadium. A beer is 4€ and food about 5-6€ depending and yes you can drink in the stands, smoke too. That all said, if you need a guide on the day, I'll likely be at the game so would be happy to help.

I know as a club we're paired with Frankfurt, but as I've lived in Munich for the last 10 years, I've become a bit of a fan. We play Dresden on Sunday and I'm hoping that the club will get around to announcing a new manager, we were linked to Sven Goran Eriksson recently, but that has all gone quiet. As for the stadium, yes too big for 1860, but miles better than playing at the Olmypiastadium. The have the Grunwald stadium, but it can only hold 15K, which is nowehere near enough. Biggest crowd I've seen so far this year was 45K on the opening day.

  7. Every latic should make a point of ditching any oldham dwelling "friends" who are TV Reds or Blues. Tell them to go to hell and tell them why

Whilst I haven't ditched any of my Prem supporting mates, I quite often tell them where to go if they ask me down to the pub watch their games.

Football & Rugby belong in Oldham, it's just a shame that it has a council that does not care and is not willing to support sports in its town.

  8. How much of a fan would you consider yourself?

Just a fan, would love to get to games, listen in often on LW.

Do you think there are certain things a Latics fan should never do?

Support United, or anyone else for that matter.

How do you react after a defeat?

Depends on the manner of the defeat, if we've not put up a fight, then pretty peeved. Otherwise quite pragmatic about it.

Whats the most important thing about the matchday experience the result or the day in general?

The result and the effort put in.

If you were given £1,000,000 would you go and support your main rivals?

No. (Just seen the above posts, yep I'm mental).

Do you have a Latics tattoo?

No. I have a Latics cap though and I wear it a lot.

  9. The club doesn't need 26K today, they need to see the intent to raise 26K from the scheme. There will be a rough estimate on how much money will be in the scheme after a year based on current donations.

I've been impressed with Dickovs signings so far this year, if he says this guy is a must have, then the club should sign him regardless. The people donating to the scheme will raise as much as they possibly can.

There maybe some news tomorrow of some listed players leaving

    Is there any news?

  10. but for many of us who follow lower league sides we feel a divide between us and the megabucks Premiership stars who strut about in England shirts, a feeling that they come from a world of top level football that doesn't involve us.

This pretty much sums up my feelings, I really can't muster up any passion for the national side these days. I'm not saying I want them to lose, I just don't care if we win.

    Latics come first, always.
