  1. Gannon was hot favourite on back page of the Chron two days ago and his odds have gone from 5-2 to 3-1? The Bunn story was published last week and up until yesterday, you could still get 6/1.

Gary Speed is still 20/1.... <_<

Personally I think Gannon is waiting on the Stockport situation (D-Day is tomorrow I think?). If they come out of administration, I see him going back.

  2. I wouldn't care if Gannon came in and ruffled a few feathers, a manager has to do that at some point. My only concern with him is that he's been fairly non commital to every job he's had so far (Motherwell too far north? and Peterborough too far south?) and that he'd be out the door just as quickly as he's arrived leaving us no better off.

Ritchie - I always thought he was unfairly treated the first time round, but we shouldn't look back. Has he been actively looking for managerial work since Huddersfield?

Bunn - Fan favourite, would defintiely boost ST sales. Maybe people are romaticizing the past with him (myself included), he does want to take the step up in to management. As for the Bunn/Ritchie 'dream ticket' - A little too nostalgic for me, if it is to be Bunn, he should bring his own people in.

Ince - Don't want him anywhere near the club and since he quit MK Dongs because of lack of funding, I can't see him considering us.

Gregan - I'm sure he'll take the step in to management one day, but right now we need him in defense for as long as he can continue.

  3. And we've/they've accepted it -

Commenting on the decision to agree to the new set of figures, a Football League spokesman said: "Following a frank but constructive meeting at Walsall's Banks's Stadium, Football League clubs have voted to accept the Premier League's revised solidarity and parachute payments proposals.

"Whilst many clubs expressed concerns about the proposals, their acceptance was considered the only viable way forward.

"The Football League will now work in good faith, with the Premier League, to ensure that the resulting contract and regulatory changes are good for both competitions and football as a whole."

  4. League meeting today.

So basically the Premiergreed are threatening to withdraw all payments if we don't accept the new proposals. Leagues 1 & 2 have rejected it unanimously and 23 of the 24 Championship clubs has accepted the offer. So aswell as the loss of revenue this season from low crowds, we could be another 108K short next year.

I'm sure this would have an adverse affect on our 2018 bid, I don't think FIFA will look kindly on them wrecking the entire league set up, which is pretty much what this is going to do.

  5. On the flip side, he took us to the play offs, then took Palace to the Premier League via the play offs when they were 19th in the league at the time in his first season.

Charlton I see as a Clough/Leeds style relationship (Not that I'm comparing him to Clough), they'd had one manager for the previous 15 years and were well set in their ways. Dowie only got 15 games before being fired, his successor Les Reed only got 7 games.

Coventry City - Weren't they under a transfer embargo at the time when he was there? I do seem to recall them beating Man U 2-0 in the League cup at Old Trafford with him in charge.

QPR - 9th in the league at the time, won 8 of his 15 matches in charge and has the best winning % all the other 4 managers they have had since.

Despite his sackings, his CV is not at all bad. He just needs to stop being a journeyman(ager), he won't last at Hull, they'll go in to administration and he'll go. If he wants to build a legacy, he needs to pick a club and stick with them.

  6. I see where the OP is coming from and partly agree, but Newcastle we are not and my confidence level in this team being able to bounce right back is pretty low.

That said, I think given the rising costs for lower league football clubs and away travel, re-introducing the north/south leagues would seem a sensible idea.

  7. In this case we are not talking about a 26K bank loan though, Chester did not pay their taxes. We don't get the option to opt out of paying taxes each month, so I don't see why a football club should, regardless of their size.

Another non league team has bit the dust - Farsley Celtic, no mention of unpaid tax, but an unpaid debt of 750K. Is it me, or is that a lot for a conference north team?

  8. I thought the first pen was harsh, their guy turned and ran in to Hazell, he was back pedalling to stay on his feet. Second one, their guy didn't go down looking for the pen and it just looked a normal challenge, ref got that way wrong.

btw - Have we annoyed the BBC at some point? I can't remember ever seeing a post match comment from a Latic's manager?

  9. I used to see Paul Scholes out in Middleton many years ago when he'd just broken in to the first team at United. He was never ever off his trollley though, always seemed to be just a few quiet drinks with mates. Fergie put a stop to that pretty sharpish.

  10. Reading between lines in the BBC forums, HMRC want to prevent administration on the basis that people within Pompey have been doing illegal things (Such as not paying tax) and the club being in admin prevents them from having a 100% open view of the accounts. Or something along those lines.

  11. and just to further the idea maybe it could become some sort of membership scheme? you pay a fiver at start of the season for a card and you must have the card to get in cheaper. That way you know how many people max you are letting in cheap and can budget for it. plus you make the extra fiver per person. i reckon youd get around 2000 members so that's £10000. not sure if fl rules allow such a scheme but worth a mention.

My loose understanding is you can't offer discounts on matchday itself, everyone home & away pays the same price. The only way to get a discount is to buy a ticket ahead of time. Even if this is the case, it still does not warrant abandoning membership schemes completely, as you say sharge people 5 quid to becomes a member (It's up to the club to decide what schemes & bonuses come with it). I'd happily pay the money, even though I sadly don't get to games.

Please someone correct me on this if I'm wrong, but at City(Cos I've never been and never will), you cannot just pay on the day and walk through the turnstile, you have to sign up with the club as a member before you get the ticket? I know a couple of friends who have gone and have had to do this before they could get in to the ground?

  12. A long time ago I used to work in a fruit & veg shop in Sale, Roger Palmer was one of our regular customers. Then a couple of years after that I was working at Nevada Bobs over near Heaton Park and served Rick Holden (When he was at City). Ryan Giggs also dropped in the shop once...thought he was a shoplifter, until I relaised he wasn't, then sold him some crap golf clubs.
