  1. With 20% of revenue raised from the motorist in the form of fuel tax, VAT on fuel, road tax, car insurance tax etc. actually being spent on the road-user, is the remaining 80% not enough to spend on projects such as this? Or would it be more accurate to say this clueless government have wasted tax revenue over the years without any tangible benefits in many areas of life and cannot fully finance this scheme on it's own?

Also, how come the money was found for the first two Metrolink routes without having to resort to extortion?

  2. Another shameless attempt by a politician to appeal to the great unwashed. What worries me is the possibility that there are actually people out there who would think 'awww that nice Gordon Brown sent a letter to that bird on the telly, I'll certainly be voting Labour next time'?

Shameless is a perfect choice of word for him.

I also read in one paper this morning about a female army captain who lost a leg in Afghanistan and gets £50k for doing her master's bidding and a female corporal gets £200k for being called a "dyke".

Something not right in this society when something like that happens.

Sorry for the mini-rant, but I needed to get it off my chest.

  3. Reading the posts on the Eardley/Lomax argument about who is better at RB, I would say it depends on your expectation of a full back. My personal opinion is that Eardley is a better attacking player but falls behind Lomax at defending and for me defending takes priority.

What are the chances of booking them both into the Highfield and getting one quality player out of the choice of body parts?

  4. Funny how one person expresses a dissatisfaction with Roy and then half a dozen others suddenly think he's the worst and most negative commentator in the land and should be banished from Latics and indeed this earth for ever.....

Name someone on Latics World that's worse?

Having said that Roy should only be banished from the microphone and get someone on who is positive about the team.

  5. Funny how one person expresses a dissatisfaction with Roy and then half a dozen others suddenly think he's the worst and most negative commentator in the land and should be banished from Latics and indeed this earth for ever.....

I bet if I started a thread today stating that Roger Palmer was gash I'd get half a dozen or so jumping on the bandwagon.

    How dare you.....!!!

Now if you'd have said Andy Barlow!!!

But put me in the "Roy out" camp.

  6. Apart from the obvious change of Gregan in for Hazell, should Sheridan look at other changes?

This is not a criticism of Liddell, but the lad is getting on and it's two matches in four days, so should we be looking at Lee to come in or carry on with Liddell knowing we haven't got a game for a week and a half?

If Whittaker is fit, should he slot straight back in?

  7. his destiny is at his own feet so to speak...score a shed load of goals then he has a dilema...stay to get us up knowing clubs will want him,or jump ship early and leave us in the mire....

If he's any scruples, considering what the club has done for him, he'd sign a new contract now with a get out clause of a minimum £150k should the club not go up.

  8. But remember, his knockers are fed up of waiting for him to be out injured (given his terrible record  ) and so now we're moving onto the guaranteed regular suspensions he will incur (given his terrible disciplinary record  ).

I think most fans actually want him in the team, but are frustrated because his suspensions have come at critical times for the club and as a result of mind-numbingly stupid bookings.

I don't have time to read all the posts on here and generally cherry-pick certain ones but, apologies if it has been covered, has Shez commented on or taken action over Hughes antics such as fines or warnings?

  9. Good post - these are the only two points i would disagree with. Firstly I'm not sure about the younger players, as Shez has touched on in his interview. He has always been willing to give youth a chance in the past. Also I don't think the older players have really let anybody down to any great extent, ignoring Gregan's recent form/issues. They certainly aren't coasting.

Secondly we aren't a million miles away from getting out of this league - we aren't far off being a good side in a poor league. However the crucial weak link holding us back may, may just be the manager. But then some weeks he and we are excellent!?!

Stitch, the kids are good enough but if all they ever do is train and not play in serious games then when they are called upon they invariably appear off the pace. Last season, we had Chalmers, this season we have Lee and Stephens, all potentially good, skillful players and so far we have seen in total less than half a game. We have different opinions over the value of the older players, but if these younger players aren't given a chance then the longer the season goes on we run the risk of them looking elsewhere for opportunities.

Your second point is more interesting and can be linked with the first insofar that when we have a commanding lead in games then I think there should be opportunities from the bench.

  10. Replace "different class" with "same old sh1te" and we're there with that banner!!

As many have said, last night was an amalgamation of all that is wrong with the club at the moment; brought lovingly together in 1 absolutely shocking performance.

Mis-management of the highest order is happening from the top of the club all the way down (but thankfully stopping before it hits the yoofs, bring on 9t of Dec & St James Park i say - looking forward to that!!)

The scrapping of the ressies was a shocking decision, shown up last night.

Sheridans lack of tactical foresight, in worrying more about a side who are woeful on their travels & 17th in the league, rather than fielding a side that has the shape & personel to showcase & utiliese our best strengths, shown up last night.

Square pegs into round holes position wise, shown up last night.

Lack of ability to quickly change things on the pitch; mid game when things are clearly not working, shown up last night.

Over-reliance on our 'old heads' in the team, playing week in week out, irrigardless of form, un-droppable in the managers eye's when younger; hungrier models are warming the bench or sat in the stands, shown up last night.

A cup-tied striker that could have been brought in in time for the 1st leg; sat in the stand in the row in front of me, watching the sack of sh1te that he's just joined, shown up last nigt.

A motionless manager stood pitch side, occasionally shouting at Jones or Lewis, looking hang-drawn & un-motivated; whilst his oppposite number never shut up all game & made decisions when they were needed (N.B this does not in any way mean i for one minute like Martin Allen; he's a grade A cock!), shown up last night.

Hoof ball up to our strikers, bypassing the midfield, whereby our small & physically weaker small lads get beaten in the air everytime, for the 2nd ball tobe mopped up by their midfield, shown up last night.

how a million miles away we are from ever gettng out of this league, shown up last night.

I'm unbelievabley angry about the state of the club at present. Last night was the bringing together of all the evils that have been around for ages, we've mearly been papering over the crack with results like the leeds / leicester / scunny one's. We are a mid table team, being poorly managed at present which is making us look ever worse.

Going nowhere fast, and something will have to give. I'm very, very weakly holding onto the strap of the keep the faith banner - for how long the TTA decide to keep the faith with the current regime will be an interesting watch over the coming weeks.

A win on saturday will not suddenly make all ok again, there are big issues & problems in the club that need addressing asap!

phew, pause for breath after that!

    EXCELLENT POST!!! No arguments here.

  11. From reading this post, one thing becomes apparent, is the debate on how we best negate the hoof ball of Cheltenham. Surely as the home team, we should have put out a side to play to our best available advantages, which is simply football. Our formation should have been to play them off the field with passing football, not pack the midfield with defending midfielders to stop them playing their game.

I'll put this one down to poor management.

  12. I think we have people on here who are clearly taking the p--s!!!

    Gregan gets a vote!

    WHY!

It makes a mockery of votes by people who went.

I like to read comments by fans who attended, but I won't vote on matches I didn't get to.

  13. He loved his mum though did Ronnie. And I bet after they roughed up that train guard they visited his mum too, being the gentlemen thiefs they were back in those days.

Nowadays its all these yardsticks and their crackly cocaine shootouts in London sadly.

Would this "We didn't really mean to leave your son unable to work by giving him a serious going over" visit have taken place:

    a) Before he got caught.

b ) After he escaped but before he left the country.

    c) He thought about it whilst on a beach in Brazil spending his share.

    d) Didn't really give a toss for 30 years and suddenly remembered Jack Mills when handing himself in hoping for a review of his sentence.

    I'll go for d).

  14. Interesting to see the spread of votes from the game.

Good to see that Stammy got some support, I thought his partnership with Hazell showed a lot of promise.

Can't believe people gave Liddell a vote. If scoring a penalty is worthy of MOTM, because in my opinion he did sod all else, it detracts from all the hard work the likes of Maher, Byfield, Stam, Hazell, Taylor put into the performance.

I think we should have a rule change to match American Football, we can wheel Liddell on for penalties and then send back to a comfy armchair. That way, he's good for another 20 years
