The squads Ritchie had in League One in the late nineties were much worse than this. Difference is those squads were old school with homegrown passion and commitment.

Those squads were miles better than this tripe we’ve got now. They had Sheridan, Eyres, Carrs, Dux... They are a million times better than anything we’ve got now (maybe except Clarke)

Did you ask him why Dave?

    No, I wish I had!

He did say he wants to play but “it’s not me, it’s the club, they’ve f****d me.”

Said hes training with the youth team, so I asked about Gerrard. That’s when he said they’d sacked him. That shocked me a bit so I asked “sacked him?” He said yeah, sacked him last night via email...you could hear the disgust in his voice when he said “via email”. If true, that’s pretty out of order I think.

Asked him if he had anything lined up/any interest from other clubs and he said no.

I did think he might have been making the Gerrard thing up to see how quickly it went on Twitter/on here!

    Is Dunford a reliable :sauce:?

Byrne was leaving as I’d just picked my ST up. Spoke to him and asked if he’d be playing again soon and he told me basically the same as what Jason Dunford’s tweet says. Said he’s training with the youth team. Asked him if Gerrard was training with the youth team too and he said no, cos they sacked Gerrard last night. Can’t see that last bit being true cos you can’t just sack football players, but I guess we will see.

So because the team was relegated all the players were rubbish and nobody should have a good word to say about them? My point was that 2 of the four have easily got moves, one appears to be on the brink of moving and the fourth is I said above. So other clubs don't think they are rubbish obviously.

Clarke was part of the team that was relegated but appears to be flavour of the month at the moment.

I couldn't really care less what other clubs think of them, and was only talking about our supporters. You called them bitter. They've every right to be pissed off with players who were a big part of the reason we got relegated from a division that we've stayed up in with far less talented teams.

And one has gone up a league, one has moved sideways-both for fees, another appears to be on his way sideways to Carlisle and the last some say could be the best in this league. So this doesn't really hold water does it?

I don't get your point. Are you saying they weren't part of a team that got us relegated? Because they definitely were. And therefore, I don't see why many of our fans would have a good word to say about them.

So that's Davies, Holloway, Gerrard and Byrne who have few seem to have a good word for. Some bitter fans on here.

All players in a team that managed to get us relegated out of a division we'd been in for 20+ years. I'd be surprised if many (if any) had a good word for them.

Agreed.  My little event only uses local beers (Essex, Herts, Suffolk) but I have often wondered how I can organise a guest ale.

GB do 10 and 20 litre boxes.  Absolute no brainer in my book.

I’ve bought a 10 litre box off them a couple of times, they’re great. £30 for 18 pints... you can’t go wrong!

Minipins are just beer in a box, similar to a wine box, and can be brought in the day before with no problem at all.  I know, I've run a village beer festival for eight years using them.  At around 18 pints in a box and a shelf life of at least a week there would be minimal risk.

They should get up to Greenfield brewery and get a load ordered. They do some lovely beers there, and it would be helping out a local business. Win win.

Every team needs a fane. A grafter. A ball winner. Someone a bit different.

But you don't build a team round him

Teams need a grafter and ball winner in midfield. But they done need a Fane. He can’t kick a football. They need someone who grafts, wins the ball, and then can actually pass it or maybe even shoot when the opportunity arises.

Generally it isn’t. If you are a bit of an arse hole then maybe, but thankfully the majority on this board aren’t.

I don’t know anyone who has ever said an opinion that they agree with is utter bollocks. Seriously, you only say it about opinions you disagree with.

    You did....?

We weren’t 8 points adrift at this point last year. Shezzurection was well under way.

Because you don’t agree with an opinion it’s utter bollocks?

Generally, when someone doesn’t agree with an opinion is when they’d call it utter bollocks.

Thought first half was poor. McEleney non- existant, marked nobody and had hunt marking two when we were defending. Showed glimses of quality in his delivery but way off the pace.

Nazon wasn’t on it and doesn’t seem to link up well with Doyle.

Edmundson was superb today no nonsense and did really well against Vasell who is a big lad.

Byrne finally played in his correct position and oozed class every time he got the ball. Amazing what happens when they are played in the right position!

Gardner not will to put a tackle in and always looks finished come 60 mins. Gave the ball away so much second half. Looked a lot more comfortable in a midfield 3.

Fane is talked about so much in a negative light yet people don’t realise you take him out and they would have walked through our midfield today. All he is there to do is break the play up and what he is does I would say he is one of the better ones at doing it in the league. No he isn’t great on the ball but the ground he covers and the tackles he makes are massive. Gardner is scared of a tackle, Byrne isn’t that sort of player and neither is Pringle. Don’t know who people are expecting to do the dirty work in the middle without him.

The bit in bold is out main problem. Gardner is usually alright on the ball, but cant get stuck in. Fane is decent at getting stuck in and breaking up play, but he literally struggles with kicking the ball. We have 2 players playing in central midfield doing the job of one half decent holding midfield player. If we had a semi decent holding midfielder we could play Byrne in the middle, and then pick an actual right sided midfield player who would give the team some balance and width, and might actually give the right back some protection.

No settled batting lineup, bowlers dining out on previous tours that won't bowl at the stumps trying to find an outside edge that just isn't there. Another average Aussie team are likely to beat us 5-0 again. Where's the young quick bowlers that are going to get us the 60 wickets we'll need to nick this series?

Anderson and Broad bowled quite well in the first innings. Gave hardly anything away, took combined figures of 5-99. They don't have express pace, so thats how they've got to bowl over there. They just weren't backed up at all by the other bowlers. Could have also been helped if the batsmen had converted 250-4 into a lot more than 300. Need big scores to bowl at in Aus, especially if you dont have bowlers who can bowl 90+mph.

96.2 Rev bought the title several weeks ago....any signs of the ‘OldhamChronicle’ returning to print?

I remember someone telling me that they have bought it, but are now waiting to see how these other papers go to see if its worth printing again.
