    Yeah, I take your point.

But betters players still need familiar position. You wouldn’t see Maguire at left back for United just because they’re playing Yeovil.

He plays Maghey again, who was dire last week. He needlessly changes formation (he said the other week 352 is the best use of the squad he has available) so why change it. Just think there was a lot of odd decisions, that at the very least contributed to a poor result.

Agree that 352 is the best suited to the squad but you can’t play that formation without Kitching, who he clearly wanted to rest. Not 1 other player in the squad is capable of playing LWB.

I know. This is what makes me laugh.

9 are out of contract in the summer.

    Hogan

    Magehy

    Couto

    Tollitt

    Green

    Dicky

    Biscuit legs

    Hope

    Mikey

I don’t think any of them will be offered new deals- (maybe Fondop)  so that frees up a lot of budget.

But they aren’t the issue- people also want rid of-

Ward, Shelton, Nuttall, Kurt, Reid- there is no way we are paying up 5 or 6 of the longer contacts.

I thought Mikey still had another year left after this season tbh, but yeah, he’s the only 1 on that list who gets offered a new contract for me and even if he didn’t I wouldn’t be too upset, I do think he deserves 1 though.
Of the others, I think the majority of those will  have interest in them on loan etc, but we’d have to pay a large % of their wages still, but even getting rid of those 8 players will be a big help

I’ve defended 5PM - but I have to agree with this. He did the same against Mickleover and played Hogan at right back. . then add in changing the formation, players out of position- and it’s hardly surprising really. He wouldn’t do it in the league so god knows why he does it in the cup.

Sorry but when we don’t have a single RB at the club, and only 1 LB thanks to the awful recruitment from the summer, I don’t see an issue with playing a player out of position in the cup at home to Mickelover and Hendon ffs. Hogan is club captain, and is an experienced pro who should easily be able to compete in those positions against part timers from 3 leagues below. I know your only using Hogan as an example here and not saying he’s the reason we lost but that 11 today in that formation should be beating Hendon comfortably.

That’d cost about a million quid paying all those up I reckon 😂 What an absolute shit show DU and ST made of recruitment in the summer eh?

    That result is on Mellon.

No, got to disagree. He has clearly said league is the priority and we have a squad who should easily be capable of beating and controlling Hendon from the start. No way should the likes of Norwood be anywhere near playing in games like this, especially when we have a league game on Tuesday.

If we went up, we'd survive in League Two.  We've got a much better team even now than the one that came down.

The line that "we're not ready to go up/would be good to get into the play-offs just for the experience" is the biggest load of nonsense I've heard with regards to Latics for ages - and it's a competitive field!

Agreed, seen loads of people say we’re not ready to go up, which I find completely bizarre tbh with you. We have a good manager, we have a fair few out of contract players and so presumably room for signings, and we have players under contract who would do a job at league 2 level. We of course have some problems with surplus players on good money, but thats not enough of an issue to say we wouldn’t compete in league 2.

It will never be acknowledged but in my mind the primary objective of the youth set up is to sell players before they get anywhere out first team and hope they sell ons work out occasionally

Does that ever make us close to breaking even in terms of what it costs to run an academy? Obviously never guaranteed to sell a player a season, but to me it seems like we don’t produce enough talent to make it in the 1st team to make it worthwhile having a youth team. We have in the past, but in recent years all we’ve had is Couto, Vaughan and Sutton.

Must be some bad weather in the Atlantic as some of the boats have been turning back on themselves - looks weird on the race map.

Yeah I saw that, and in the last 24 hours a few of them had done minus miles. Presumably Frank missed it, as it was the group a bit further ahead and Frank had done 25 miles in 24 hours.
