  1. I think Rocastle will go, he did ok at the end of last season but i don't think he is good enough for a first team spot if we are serious about going up next season. I've never really rated Edwards but he is ok as cover down the left

Very good point regarding Rocky Gemma. I was one of those who needed some convincing after his early performances for us. I still wasn't convinvced at the end of the season, but unless we are thinking of signing 3 midfielders, i think it would be foolish of us to get rid due to cover, bearing inmind how Macca feel wawy a bit in the 2nd half of the season as well.

  2. As we missed out on Cummings from Bournemouth i'll be surprised if Eddie is allowed to go yet. Although Lomax looks like he could be a reasonable prospect (unless Shez's irons are already burning in the fire!) we would be very thin on left sided players. As for Rocky, I thought he could be a useful squaddie, but again all of this depends upon who we bring in to replace Wellens(if he goes).

All ifs and buts but i think last year, we were even more concerned.......how wrong could we have been.

Elvis is dead, long live the SHEZ.

  3. Nice to see that the club are making these special occasions open to those with plenty of spare cash. As usual.

Exactly!! I can understand the club trying to raise money, but surely those fans who either buy a season ticket, regularly gets to away games or is just a dedicated follower of the 'tics' should get an opportunity to play in this.

Instead it's the usual guys with the extra till who get the opportunity.

  4. Im not really wound up about it, as the times I have seen him play in his short Latics career, he hasn't looked like a player who would take the bp faithful by storm. I don't think he had the heart to ever amount to much as a footballer, he never showed enough passion imo ala going into acting.

I am though, very disappointed, as been mentioned before, for shez, philli and anyone else who has put time, effort and money into the kid, only for him to drop out.

  5. How rude indeed!! And after seeing him in a white pvc nurses outfit at the players' christmas party, needless to say he was jealous because you will have looked better than him :shy:

  6. I've e-mailed the station to complain, the guy is an absolute balloon.

How do cretins like this get radio shows.

Ditto! But i guess that's what they're after They're just not there every saturday when all the fans are agressively goading latics fans over hughes, through the season , due to comments by that prat stirring up a hornets nest!!

  7. I've just e-mailed them telling them of my disgust of the prat presenting it. After i was trying to talk live from a "footballing" point of view, this prat completely turned the topic around to a public flogging of Hughes and Oldham!!

I recommended that this presenter goes and lies down in a dark room after his shift, and until which time, the majority of football fans will be turning him off!! :rant.sml::rant.sml::angry::angry::angry:

  8. The Talksport 'phone in is not a debate it is a public hanging with Jon Gaunt acting as judge; jury and executioner.

No impartiality from this guy. Basically, I think he wants Hughes castrated; tortured and gassed. He is making it "personal" by trying to get Coventry fans to call in to express their disgust since the victims were Sky Blues.

Also, a lad from Oldham has just been on and he was ridiculed by Gaunt - although he waited until he was off the air.

He's just stopped another guy from talking about a different aspect because he wants to keep the debate "on track". Basically, his view is right and he only wants to hear from people who agree with him.

Now he is accusing another Oldham fan of "condoning what Hughes did" by twisting his words.

The guy is a complete moron.

It was me who was on...and he tried to twist my words into accepting peadophiles playing for latics!! :rant.sml::angry::angry: WHAT A MORON!!!!!

  9. If I were to "pap myself and panic" I don't think it would last for 36 hours. I say vile character because that is my view on anyone who behaves in that way. I don't know it, I just feel it. Is that ok with you?

Gillian v fair comment. I guess as passionate football fans, we sometimes don't think about 'deeper' personal feelings (I know i do!) and you're reasons for not wanting to sign him put football into a bit of perspective! :surrender:

  10. For me, Hughes should have received a far longer sentence - and if that were the case, we wouldn't be having this discussion, because by the time he saw light of day again, he would be too old to play. My problem with him is the way he drove away and hid for nearly 2 days, knowing what he had done. What a vile character. I don't really want to see him in a Latics shirt, irrespective of how many goals he could score, I really don't. But that's just my opinion.

Entitled granted...... Just 1 thing to remember surely. We follow latics because they are OUR football team and not a political party or judicial system that give sentences out.

If he plays for us and plays poorly, i will then criticise as my entitlement as a paying football fan! And if and when he scores winning goals i shall praise him the same as if the mighty rodger was back!

  11. It's a brilliant coup. In a way Senor is right it's terribly inhumane that he is being let out but like many have said it's not for us to judge, put that down to the incompetence of the Jury passing sentence. Till I see him at BP I won't believe it either.

We need a song for him though because 'Hughesy, Hughesy' makes me feel a tad ill (13 years later)

'Oh Lee Hughes, he's not a jailbird anymore' :o

He's bald, not on the dole, he's gonna score a goal...Lee Hughes, Lee Hughes!!

  12. As i've stated before, when you look at it in pure footballing terms (and that's what we discuss on here!! Most of the time!!)

Answer this truthfully.....1st game next season, would you rather have Chris "Marlon Brando" Hall or Lee Hughes in your starting 11???

  13. Let's remember that nobody wanted to drive that useless crock of crap Killen out of the club when he was drunk up behind the wheel in Newcastle - he took a chance and got away without causing an accident, Hughes didn't. If I remember rightly Hughes had some hardcore mental problems, let's hope they are fixed and give him a chance.

I wonder if the probation people will take a dim view if he chins someone during a game? He'll get plenty of chances to I dare say.

How glad is Keigan "Dive" Parker now that Greags has brought his mate to beat him up!?!?

  14. Quality. You couldn't make it up. Why don't we go the whole hog and get Prince Naz to do some training for us, Gazza to do the psychology coaching, Ian Brady to run the creche and resurrect Harold Shipman as club doctor. Just a thought.

:D Do i sense a hint of sarcasm in your keypad gillian

I know i pay to judge players on their footballing ability and efforts for oafc, so i will be praising when needed as he opens his account in front of the Chaddy End!! (If of course he does sign!!!! )

Lee Hughes Or Chris "Marlon Brando" Hall...C'mon football fans, not a tough choice!!!

  15. Reports like this surely do no good to anybody....no wonder the term "gutter press" is used!!

It puts a slightly different perspective on our new signing though, that's for sure!!

  16. Can you imagine if it has been Bazza sorting this contract out :laught16: Oh eck!

As for Shez's control, he's giving him an opportunity to resurrect his career, so the lad surely should always keep this at the front of his bald head! And if he does give him any stick, Shez can just set his brothers on him! :stretcher:

  17. Personally, I think important factors to consider are:

    Fitness (physical)

    Fitness (mental)

Alcohol (did/does he have a problem)

    Security (does he need some!?)

Acceptance (both from fans and the team)

Contract (don't want to be left out of pocket if it all goes up in smoke, but at the same time need to have clauses preventing him from using us to make it to match fitness and then run off to the Championship for nothing)

You're spot on there ackey imo.....here's my view on your points

whilst no expert on prison life  he'll prob be fitter than he ever has been? Physically

Mentally he could well be even tougher?? (though not sure that's a good thing, as i think he was a bit of a case anyway?!?!

Security..who's gonna mess with him and greags on a saturday afternoon :stretcher:

Acceptance...Any decent player worth his salt thrives when given stick by opposition fans...a la Becket!!!!

Contract.. £5 and bag of cheddars!!:laught16::laught16:

  18. I've no doubt his signing will have some reaching for their moral handbooks!! so let's get cracking with a thread!

Personally, although an obvious gamble, I think it could be a cracking signing, presumably Greags has had an input with this, where they at W.Brom at the same time??

Hopefully, he'll be fit as a fiddle and raring to go....and if that's the case, are we not looking potentially at the best striker in the division?!

As you can tell i'm giving off the positive vibes on this one. :bobby::OWTB1:

  19. Thanks-be to Warney, if every player had put his effort in this year then we'd have been promoted with ease.

Not so sure about that Ackey. Admittedly his effort was top notch, but the time old discussion of having 11Paul Warnes/Tony Carss etc in your side comes up. Without quality in your side balanced with the PW's of this world, promotion wouldn't be acheived IMO.

  20. Another excellent decision by tta IMO. :applause1::applause1: The football played is sure to attract (hopefully) more fans back and (hopefully) after seeing the panic for tickets etc at the end of the season, more will buy. I would have bought my seat again regardless, but let's hope we can get ice station zebra rocking again next year.
