  1. The only people who get any benefit are estate agents, with increased commission fees.

I was convinced, at the start of the downturn, that many of these lying parasites would be the first against the wall. But that doesn't seem to have happened, despite house sales dropping to a fraction of what they were a couple of years previously. I guess that shows just how much they made in the good times...

  2. If the Council sees fit then they can issue a compulsory purchase order to enforce the sale of land if it is manifestly in the best interests of the Council and therefore the town, so why should Clayton playing fields be any different?

Where do we send the Town's only remotely viable sporting concern? If we don't take action then the team ceases to exist, and if that means building over some playing fields or charity land that is a war memorial then we should do - such action should not be an immediate recourse but the fact is now that the stadium question has been plumbed so thoroughly without resolution that I for one feel that it would be justified. After all, if the sports pitches at Clayton were relocated or the memorial garden were reconsecrated elsewhere with due ceremony and potentially a nod towards more recent casualties, then who would be the poorer for it?

Do you know what, you're right. Let's build it in Tandle Hill Park.

  3. If by a "charge" you mean a crowd surge, that's the whole point, there wouldn't be any surges because thre would be no concentration of people/pressure between the rows of barriers.

It needs to withstand the force of half a dozen or so people pushing on it, because if it failed, those in the row in front could be seriously injured. The point I'm trying to make is that the barriers need to be substantial, much more so than the seat mountings conventionally used. And this will cost a lot of money.

  4. I've read that in stadium design there is a “rule of thumb” that one seat occupies the same space as

    two standing places.

Maybe, but the ones in the picture clearly don't, unless they're for Willy Wonka's little orange folk. Comfort is a major factor for me (being 6'3"). It's even worse when it's busy, like at the last £5 game where the guy in front was giving evil looks because my knees go behind his seat, where he wanted to put his arm... :ranting:

Anyway, I'd love to see it. Would improve the atmosphere, improve the singing and help us keep warm too. But all that metalwork would need to be designed to resist a charge, and will therefore cost a fortune compared to the flimsy stuff which sometimes holds a seat together.

  5. The increased capacity comes from shallower steps on the terrace and no need for leg room in the sitting position - the seats are for those who want to sit before the match or at half-time, and therefore provision of them would be optional.

The RRE doesn't have any leg room anyway. I doubt it would be much different.

Not only is this a refreshing attitude but it is also a practical one, as the club will save money on construction costs.

I agree it's a refreshing attitude, but there's an awful lot of metal in that arrangement, and metal is expensive at the moment. And still a seat for every punter. As I said above, no increase in capacity, increased building costs. Won't happen for those reasons alone, although I'd be delighted it if did.

  7. Pledge £10, pay it to the trust, get it back if he doesn't stay?

    OK, I'll bite.

Pay it to the Trust? You must be having a laugh. I was told that there would be a new website with the Trust's details and information on it about two weeks ago, and still there's nothing. I'm not sure they even know who is a member and who isn't! So that would be the LAST place I'd send a tenner. Nice that when the club has finally updated the advertising hoardings around BP, the out-of-date Trust ones are still there. Anyway...

I think I'd happily pay another £10 if it kept Price here for the rest of the season. But I kind of think I've paid for it already...

BTW Rich, I'm posting this on my own behalf, not my brother's or anyone else's (I don't think it's libellous anyway). And yes, I'm now pissed off with OUR Trust.

  8. it pisses me right off to hear boos...

I agree with you Mr Walsh, it does no good. But myself, and those around me, could see straight away that people were booing because Smalley wasn't taken off. That suggests to me that we can see something Mr.P isn't seeing, and not for the first time this season. I'm sure that if we hadn't won, there'd have been hell to pay. And quite rightly too. Fortunately (and in no way due the sub) we got a goal.

  9. I'd like to see that, but I suspect we won't until he's fully fit again. He looked like he was running through treacle today, and it wasn't for lack of trying. he's been struggling with injuries all season, give him a break.

I'm not getting on his back, so don't need to give him a break! :) I suspect it's down to the tactics rather than Chris's fitness. Even if he's not fully fit (and he must be pretty close by now) we should be exploiting the space on the left side more than we do. After all, that's where the goal came from!

  10. With this userboard being webnonymous I do wonder how many of the fans on here are old enough to have stood in amongst it (not nice and safe at the front) at BP, would like to go back to standing and have the legs for it? Or put it this way how many are clamouring for the return to standing who have never been on a terrace at a football game bar the very odd occassion?

I don't think anyone seriously expects to go back to the terraces we used to have, although I'm sure some would like to.

These 'safe standing' areas (as pictured in Germany) are effectively seats with handrails running begind them, and would cost an absolute fortune to install for no increase in capacity. That's why I can't see it happening (legislation issues aside) - there's no payback.

  11. One thing that does not seem to have been brought up, Alan Hardy mentioned the fact that creating a Latics MetroLink station would apparently add two minutes overall to the journey time to/from Manchester, another reason why they would be unwilling to build the station, and possibly a reason why the cost is so high.

Only if it stops. It could be matchdays / matchtimes only if required. Anyhow, the damn thing is already taking over an hour from Rochdale, so who the hell is going to use it? Quicker to get on a bus.

  12. Agreed, the Met stop is a must and the extra income gained from turning the car park into a park and ride 6/7 days a week must be enough to make the board go with the decision.

Trouble is, there isn't really any congestion into Manchester on Oldham Road. So the only people willing to pay would be those who could save on the cost of parking in the centre. And most of those will be on expenses, or too rich to care.
