  1. Visited the Normandy beaches (and Arnhem) many years ago, and am very glad not to be placed in the same situation of the lads back then. We owe them a huge debt, not least to remember their sacrifice. Always brings a tear to the eye to see the veterans (old and, sadly, young) at the Remembrance Parade.

  2. How on Earth do you define something that costs more than a billion pounds in a tax disguised as a subscription fee as a resource? It spends a huge amount of it producing :censored: TV that any number of channels can make anyway, it has hardly any free to air sport worth watching, it spends tens or hundreds of millions on product for children that commercial ventures already do better and I am struggling to think of the huge amount of ground breaking drama it produces. It's news coverage isn't great, it's website is sickeningly craven and to me offensive as an atheist (it describes all world religions as matters of faith except for Islam, which it describes as true (unless they changes it since)) and it is massively overstaffed by wasters collecting huge salaries to do :censored: all in a bloated institution, mostly still bizarrley situated in London, for reasons that make no economic sense and have nothing to do with making any product that the, "licence fee payers," want to enjoy. Throw it in the well. Talented people will make producyt that we want without the Government holding a gun to our head to fund them.

That's bollocks. News reporting has gone downhill across the board in recent years, as news organisations struggle to make something appear interesting every minute of the day. But the BBC is still the best one. The BBC (in my opinion, not that I watch much of it) produces more EDUCATIONAL children's television than the crap on the commercial channels. I'm delighted that they're showing F1 again, although ITV did a great job to be fair. The licence fee is a tiny amount compared to what many of us pay to get the 'extra' satellite and cable channels, many of which are showing BBC programmes.

Anyway, thought this thread was about Neal Eardley... :)

  3. Or stopped trying the moment that the manager was a goner/when a new temporary manager came in. Why bother risking injury for a manager, that in the long run, is going to have no effect on your career?

No point going over old ground too thoroughly, but Hughes/Allessandra was our best forward partnership at the start of the season. It was disrupted, for no other apparant reason than to bring in 'bigger' names on loan, who are well documented and never delivered.

As for the end of the season, I could see the outcome after the Bristol Rovers game. I felt then we would never do it. But I never imagined it would be as bad as it was! I believe that the decision to sack Sheridan was the right one, and that we're further forward as a result. And I have high hopes for next season, but that's nothing new...

  4. Who couldn't hack it in the end this season? I think this season we had a very good blend of youth and experience. Just that the players that were here didn't have the right attitude on/off the pitch.

No, who were dropped or played intermittently for most of the season. In one case particularly, despite a very promising start.

  5. "Millwall"...''pissed up"..."wasn't even employed as a paper seller" - what does any of this matter ?

Nothing at all. Just shows how often what is originally reported doesn't actually turn out to be the truth.

The copper went way over the top and needs to be punished. Manslaughtler might seem harsh as I am sure he didn't mean to do the chap serious harm, but when you go throwing your weight (and batons) around like that, these things can happen.

If it is found that the copper went way over the top, I agree. But only one side has been reported so far. None of us know what the situation was even a few yards from where the incident took place.

Pliceman aren't allowed to beat people for any of the following behaviour:

    Having a history of drunkeness

    Being drunk

    Being homeless

    Being a Millwall fan

    Being fat and unfit

    Bad manners

    Being a current/former newspaper seller

It's scary that people think that they are. People supporting this seem to think that the Police have some sort of filter that means they only hit bad people.

I don't think that they are. But I believe in helping myself whenever possible, by not being present in such situations in the first place. I certainly wouldn't try to obstruct riot police trying to cope with a disturbance.

  6. I know this is slightly off topic, but. I've just seen an article on the BBC News with the woman hit by a police officer during the G20 shenanigans. She says, and I quote, "he could have asked me nicely" when asked by the interviewer about being hit by a police officer. The clip was playing at the time, and she clearly steps out of a line of protesters who are being verbally abusive to the police to shout something inaudible and point aggressively at the police line. And she expects to be "asked politely"!! Get real you stupid bitch! You turned up to a protest (on the second day!!) after seeing on TV that it's kicked off, then abuse a cop and then get smacked and then complain? Sit down. Shut up. :censored: off.

    :ranting:

The 2 key words in her story are 'Max' and 'Clifford'.

  7. I feel sorry for the copper (but not as sorry as I feel for the deceased or his family) but he really should have shown some restraint....the force he used was unnecessary, excessive and illegal.

It was fairly clear, from the original footage, that he wasn't just "making his way home". Saying that, the violence used sickened me at the time. Police are often put into awkward situations like this, where they have to make a judgement as to what they should do. I suppose they thought that if flattening the pissed up Millwall bloke would help, it was the right thing to do at the time. They can't ask for your medical records before dealing with you, after all.

Can't say I'd like to comment on the chaps ' alcoholic history '.... it wouldn't surprise me at all if this was just a rumour, perhaps created by the police.

This story suggests he wasn't even employed as a paper seller. If I recall correctly, the original statements about his life were quoted in the Daily Mail (so no surprise there then).

  8. Just read the article myself...don't understand the medical terms, but the solicitor acting for the family hints that the copper could be in a world of :censored:.

But he would, wouldn't he? Facts are that the guy was a pisshead, who had left his home due to being a pisshead, and was living in a hostel (possibly with many pissheads). He was clearly pissed when the well publicised incident occurred (and when the less well publicised ones did too). What happened might have been an aggravating factor, but I'd be surprised if his alcoholic history didn't play a part.

Of course, it doesn't detract from the tragedy for his family (although I do wonder if compo is uppermost in some of their thoughts), and we should all remember how easy it is to fall into a similar situation.

  9. What can I do now ? Close the thread and be chastise for being power hungry, stop debate about the trust which I am a Dirctor of because peoples opinions isnt the same as mine ?

    I cant win :wink::huh:

Why not post a big sticky about the Trust somewhere to make people aware of it's existence, what it does, etc.? Given that this is supposedly the official Trust MB, there's precious little about it that I can see.

  10. So do i take it that 1 or more players have "abused" OWTB forum staff - hence all the excitement?

Or is the tree that I am currently barking at.the wrong one?

There was an abusive post last night, which has been deleted and was WAY out of order. I'm sure nobody condones that sort of thing.

  11. This is explained on the first line of the post, if you read it carefully.

I read it carefully - your post is typical of the condescending attitude that comes from the 'leaders' here at times. The 'closure' of the FC forum was nearly 24 hours ago. Posts were modified to frustrate those trying to attend the match. Why would a moderator do that? Why would the forum be closed without talking to those who play in and organise the team?
