  1. I believe most places (e.g. the MEN Arena) have a common sense policy nowadays, whereby you can use a phone camera or small compact, but not a big jobbie with a telephoto lens (which might produce photographs which could be sold). No suprise to see our stewards not taking such an approach.

The woman today was funny. "Well don't sit down then, it makes no difference to me if you do or not!"

  2. What do you do work for them? Seriously though it is very hard to buy the Chron outside of Oldham (Saddleworth and Failsworth are in Oldham as far as I'm concerned). I know where I can buy the Jewish times and the local Polish paper but outside of Oldham buying the chron- sorry not a clue where. So despite Oldham being the easiest football ground for me to get to (when I'm at my parents), I don't have a clue where the nearest shop that sells the Chron is. This has been my point all along due to the close proximity to the motorway, a large % of those people who technically live in Rochdale MBC (nevermind Tameside MBC and others) don't have the first clue of what's going on at the easiest football club for them to get to as it only appears in the Chron.

I live about 20 yards from a shop selling the Bison. And I live in Rochdale. But it's of little relevance when the new deal is with the Bison's opposition! When we lived in Oldham (admittedly many years ago now) the Advertiser went straight in the bin. Maybe it's better now - certainly the Latics reporting seems great.

  4. So do I.

To add, I thought BANGERS! wasn't such an undignified slang word for a pair of breasts...

I was thinking it was a double banger....

As far as the council went, the Chair refused to believe the traffic figures, and asked for another survey. After a short recess (and no doubt a telling off from the legal people) he announced that another traffic survey wasn't possible, and that the figures quoted were 'what they were'. And he led it to be rejected anyway, on grounds of not believing the traffic survey. IMO that was clearly an illegal breach of his power, not to mention a slap in the face for the Council's traffic officer. The survey figures were explained to him before the second meeting, when he accepted the figures and the application was passed.

I'm not sure this delay would have made a lot of difference to the way things turned out though.

Something that struck me at the first meeting was the way that the club representative (SC) seemingly thought that all he had to do was turn up. He spoke for his 3 minutes like a kid that hadn't researched his school project, and was unable to answer questions convincingly. Ian Hill spoke at the second meeting, professionally and confidently. Let's hope that whichever plan goes forward, it's done properly.

  5. Fair point...

It is. 3 games against London clubs who will mainly come to play for 0-0. Mind you, the Wigan poster was hardly for the 3 biggest games. But at least there will be some Premiership quality on display.

We don't have 3 even remotely glamourous home fixtures on the trot unfortunately. Or all season. But we could at least offer something similar - bums on seats will offset the fixed costs of running the club, and if there's a pie for them to buy, all the better.

  6. I think there's plenty of evidence around to show it's more than just a fantasy, LL. Like Pakistan, Afghanistan was/is a massive breeding ground and training centre for Islamic fundamentalists hell bent on causing massive civilian casualties in the West.

I think we'd do better to concentrate on keeping them away from here than going halfway around the world to tell people how to live. Difficult I know...

It breaks my heart every time I hear of another family losing a son, all for some supposed goal which will never be achieved. And I don't even have any recent military connections.

I would encourage everyone to support our forces, and those who have gone before them, at some local ceremony on Sunday.

  7. So you should be more than capable of properly explaining why you feel this country is under threat of becoming a Muslim state outside of vague references to muslims getting the same rights as other religious groups and the fact that a white lad once got beat up and you feel the resulting action was not good enough...

End of the day its your view so you should be able to explain why you feel this way...

No, once they're 18, they all get to vote...

  8. No I'm not- I'm saying that it is the most basic human nature to look after ones-self before looking after the needs of others. What people have to do is work out that the damage to their own conscious over the mis treatment of others is worth when compared to their own improvement. For me any prospective good the BNP could do me (I'm struggling to find one) would never out-weigh the damage they are going to do to others. However, that is me, I'm an upper middle-class white man I don't have a bad life, others with far worse lives than mine might think well I know what they are doing is going to hurt so and so but they are going to make my life much much better so I'm going to vote for them.

Its a simple fact of life that with so many problems in the world some fringe parties are going to reach the more base level needs of a minor percentage of the population more than the other main stream parties. Sometimes the more base level needs are that I don't like non-white people so I'm going to vote for the party which also doesn't like non-white people. Sometimes the base level need is that the BNP are going to make me £5 a week better off compared with everyone else so I don't have to struggle as much to provide for myself and my family- even though it means that nice Mr. Singh at number 22 is deported.

I mentioned when he got elected that I was seriously tempted to vote for him because of a personal issue I have with the Manchester Evening News (I didn't vote for anyone as it happened- I wasn't in Manchester) and their stupid illegal campaign against him- I seriously doubt I would have voted for the BNP if I had voted but I will admit I was tempted to.

But really, even though you're an upper-middle class white man, don't even be tempted. Especially to prove some sort of point to the MEN.

  9. Fair enough i can't but come election time I probably could (well the ones that are standing in Durham at any rate)- I could for the top 3 but I'm not voting for them. So I take it not voting in your eyes is better than a protest vote- something I'm not sure I agree with (as if you don't vote you can't complain and exercising your democratic right is as important as having one) and something I would defiantely not call dumb.

Walk in and scribble all over your ballot paper. Been done for years in parts of the UK.

  10. It gets better when you find it was reported by the BBC and seven people where convicted...

I hope bowl starts taking a look at his own view points a little closer...

Not to add fuel to his BNP fire, but they weren't convicted of killing him. I'd imagine the victim's family are a bit pissed off...

  11. One Example-

When Gavin Hopely got beaten to death in Glodwick (2003) simply for being white - it got swept under the carpet because the authorities didn’t want public outcry. To my knowledge no one was actually convicted of his murder. Where were the main political parties then?

So, the failure to solve what was possibly a racist murder is a good reason to vote for the BNP?
