I was hoping he’d be in the dugout Saturday to give both fans and players a real boost. It’s our most important game of the season and where a win could lead to a huge windfall.

Make Saturday a big thank you to Mr wild instead, latics fan who has had the balls to step up and be counted when all around him was in chaos.

Send him off in style knowing that a new era will begin next week. He will still be part of the club but from a safer position for his own security.

Be the 12th man and push the team over the line. I'm sure he would really love to step down in style ready for his hand over to scholes.

I'm sure if the scholes thing wasn't a goer it would have been leaked or quashed by now.

Let scholes prepare us for utd in the 5th round.

Not sure why everyone is sure Scholes will go tits up. Bowyer is doing a decent job at Charlton. Big Sol seems to have had an impact at Macc, Barton doing an ok job at Fleetwood. Lampard and Gerrard clearly doing very well in different types of clubs.

Bar shez we haven't hired an experienced manager for ages.

No reason why Scholes won't be a success IMO. Done his coaching badges, knows the town and the club, knows a bit more about lower level footy that he did previously, knows the game clearly and will have very good contacts.

I believe those within the club have been informed he is to be announced, as Keith Laird says there is no smoke without fire.

But some would rather look at why he would fail rather than why he would succeed.

A sad current state of society.

Too many people focus on the negatives and not the positives.

  3. Too many people over thinking.

Most fans would like scholes. I've not seen anything to suggest he won't be our next manager.

If it doesn't happen then we move on.

This club does seem to drag things out which in turns causes negative thoughts among fans.

I'm positive there will be some news today.

Technically head and shoulders. His frustration at other players not being on the end of what he tries is all to evident. He’d look even better in a better team. It’s obvious to me.

Have to agree. Gifted players need good switched on players around them, Maouche and Baxter esp.

They see things poor plays don't and this can make it appear they have misplaced a pass etc.

  5. There is a minority on here who are either just, childish, wind up merchants, devoid of football knowledge or sense, ignorant or all of these.

I just skip their posts, not worth my valuable time to read such shite.

99% of folk on here give balanced and interesting opinions.

They make the board worth reading and if you ever look at other clubs forums, ours is up there with the best.

Come on scholesy, if true !!

Would be stunned if Butt walked away from the head of Manchester United academy to become assistant manager in league 2. It was prob a case of Scholes asking his mate to come to the game with him and cast his eye over the team and give him some thoughts. Scholes will have the ear of a lot of experienced top coaches and managers he can turn to for help if he wants so why not start with a mate you trust.

Have to agree, cant see Butt leaving his role at utd

I read a post on Facebook this morning where someone was saying they won’t set foot in Boundary Park until Scholes is gone because he’s ‘red scum’.

    Ridiculous.

I also saw a tweet from a supposed United fan saying that they hope Scholes spectacularly fails.

For every United fan hoping he fails there will be another 1000 wishing him well.

Any Oldham fan against scholes because he is a United legend needs to really grow up and stop embarrassing themselves.

Slightly excited and good luck to Scholes if true but I don't think it really matters who is manager anymore as there appears to be no foundations to help them succeed at this club. If he lasts more than 6 months I'd be very surprised.

Over 100yrs of foundations waiting for somebody to come in and fix the subsidence. I thought Bunn was bringing that stability and settling things down.

Scholes coming in is exciting and any fan who thinks or says otherwise needs to look back at the last 20 odd years, because this lad could do much better than us in reality, look at Lampard and Gerrard.

If it is true I would imagine there will be more investment from somewhere, whether he can bring that or AL can bring that with of a top world class footballer at the healm. We have to admit things will change with scholes here, we will become talked about again and followed by people who have forgotten we exist.

Scholes has investment in Salford, he is already a wealthy lad but I'm sure his investment has quadrupled with them about to become a league club.

Uncertanties remain with his Salford connections but I'm sure once here we will be his main concern.

Well done AL if this is true, step back and stay behind the scenes, let scholes lift the doldrums and give him support.

We fans need to accept this season may not mean promotion but the start of a new and hopefully exciting era.

But the clubs will want to know who's going to be coaching them before agreeing to send out on loan.

Clubs normally send players out on loan for their development 9 times out of 10.

So yes I'm sure they have a vested interest in who will be put in charge of this development.

Maybe not if its AL and his brother signing the players anyway, thats why rather than an experienced manager who deals in the transfer market we could be looking at Scholes to coach what he is given..

Maybe that might work, maybe not.

Just do something and put our poor souls at rest.

Does anybody think it a little strange Scholes hasn’t been ruled out, or ruled himself out of the running as yet?

There is usually a surge in media attention around Scholes whenever this job comes up but this time not a ripple.

Maybe he isn’t interested and the bookies are just covering themselves or maybe something is happening under the radar?

    I hope it’s the latter!

It's sooo quiet, what a secretive club we are.

That is until there is a sniff of scandal and then it's out there for all and sundry to feed on !!!

Come on AL put us out of our misery.

I was forgetting he declared he was interested and interviewed, in my mind it was speculation not confirmed. Very quiet this time (that could be good!)
I do wonder if all our financial issues since have put him off. It would be quite quick to appoint him I'd think.

If I remember rightly it was in the media he had been interviewed, I know that's still not concrete evidence but it seemed widely reported at the time.

Back to now I Just think of all the managers mentioned scholes would lift the club and most fans.

His status as a player and now pundit is huge. No matter what anybody says he was a top top player who played in a great team and under a great manager.

This doesn't mean he will make a good manager but it would be his first job and we would soon find out.

I remember a young Joe Royle being a new manager. That was worth the gamble.

  13. 31 minutes ago, singe said:

I wondered that too. To the extent I thought it was a non starter.
Can't see him giving that up to manage us.

Scholes was after the job when wellens got the role.

He must have had things in place for that scenario, I see no reason why it would be any different now.

It's a gamble whoever gets he job imo.

I think Wilds head will control his heart and he won't take the job for the security of his family, he is fully aware he could end up having to leave the club if it doesn't work out.

If scholes wants it, I would give it him.

A big gamble that could lift the club and maybe make us a little more attractive in a way to attract players, and may be more investment, possibly a few more bums on seats too.

If it doesn't work then so be it.
