If I can get to the game and meet you, dont think I'm Spanish because my name is 'Diego' - i just want to put that on record ladies :grin
And I'm rather short....height wise ofcourse.

Not really – corporal and many other peoples pessimism/realism, whatever you want to call it is actually based on rather high expectations of what the club “can” achieve. The fact that this club is losing money year on year and as already had to be brought back from the dead in 2003 seems to have many alluded people. I would actually say it’s a lot more realistic to say the club is dying and if Failsworth doesn’t go ahead, it could be RIP.
But of course, that couldn’t be realistic, that would just be scaremongering wouldn’t it.
Good point, I can't really argue with that. Also unfortunately.
-
Wouldn't expect him to get invited to very many parties.
Maybe, however his opinions and predictions are pretty realistic...... Unfortunately.

I had you marked down as a Proddy, some of us get the real deal if we were to go to church
Mr 4U reminded me of the numerous times my mum tried to pursuade me to join the Catholic society at Uni on the basis that they were all alcoholics and had loads of fit birds from Singapore etc.
Worth a look I'd have thought.

Maybe.
But I prefer to encourage progress rather than ignore it / slate it.
Does this apply to the playing side as well?

It just shows how rinky dink our Promotional / Marketing department* is when people are congratulating the club on placing an Ad in the local free 'paper!
*if such a thing exists in the post Jarvis era.
Absolutely spot on.

so your saying that the thoughts and feelings of a Muslim person should take second place to yours? Again you suggest your more important...
You can't accept one small change to the menu to accomdate a large section of the community... Is bacon really more important...
I think the kfc should produce a fyc burger for fans of the great 80's band.
Full beef of course.

Praise to LAtics,
A minor quibble/suggested improvement, but I wish it would have been a different/new number (rather than the normal ticket line) so that they could see how many fans called up and have a steer on how effective the advertising had been.
I mean that in a positive way.
The advert generated x calls, and y sales with a good or bad return. So that they could prove it too expensive to advertise or great value for money. And therfore repeat or not do it again, whichever is appropriate.
The positive of advertsing far outweighs any negative of my suggestion though.
Hang on a minute Singe, you're thinking like a person with a grasp of business /marketing..... so give them time.
An advert has been placed and it was in my paper in Ashton...well done Latics, I reckon by my "back of a fag packet" maths and due to the circulation etc it could well add 500 to 1,000 to the gate dependent on weather etc.
Add to that food sales, programmes, returning supporters. etc etc, a good move one would think.........but then again we're bound to get stuffed.
And as we all know it's all about what happens on the pitch.

They need to work out how to attract fans on a Champions League night when they are also at home on the Saturday.
Tickets for both games = £30 (instead of £40) when this happens? Would that increase crowds and revenue? I think it just might.
Have you thought about applying for a job in Marketing at the Club?, as they don't appear to be making much of an effort.
-
only 3,630 and 180mk fans ,i just hope more fans start coming back to watch latics like this saturday for the home gave v yeovil
Sorry, but £20 to see the mighty Yeovil won't enthuse the Oldham public no matter what position we are in the league. An increase in attendance will take a few weeks at least.

Now that's what I call a proper "lock in"

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...v_2/8253722.stm
Try this - shows Brill having his best game so far, the stubborn resistance yet total disorganisation around our home penalty box and the damp squibs we call our forwards!!
What happened to coaching? BR able to score winner in injury time by keeping it simple and totally foxing Hazell, Gregan etc.
The defending was reminiscent of the amateur teams who featured on the Granada football shows' "Team of the Week" slot.

Scarily, I am having a glass of Tempranillo. To wash a curry down. My digestive tract has been extremely eased ever since Friday night, I am backing it to the hilt now. Pray for me brothers.
Raising a glass of Lagioisa Merlot a 2008 Italian on offer £3.99 a bottle at Sainsburys, and very nice too.
Cheers

There were many many empty seats, I sat in my ST seat and none of the ST holders around me were there tonight, this guy definately doesn't normally sit there.
He just pitched up after half time and went off on one.

Bristol Rovers L0-2
Leeds United D1-1
Colchester Utd L0-1
Tranmere Rov L0-2
Peterborough Utd L1-2
Crewe Alex D1-1
Southend Utd D1-1
Stockport County D0-0
Swindon Town D2-2
Accy Stanley L1-2
10 matches (13 if you include the 3 winless frielndlies)
I remember going 7 Premier League Home matches without a win from the start of the season in 93/94. A run that went from beating Southampton on the final day of 92/93 through to 27th November when Chris Makin's late winner saw off Norwich! (but even then we managed two League Cup wins v Swansea and Coventry)
It's the taking part that counts

My guess is no more than 3500 on Friday... Why the club thought it was a good idea to change the day i have no idea
All things considered, 3500 is probably quite optimistic.

Feb 14th
Wonder why attendances are falling?

Tony Gray, Droylsden, a natural goalscorer and skillful on the the ball too, I think he would find no problems scoring goals in Div 1 too.
I saw him last week and was very impresed.
they train for hours every day, ( think penney has them in mornin and afternoon now? )
then they turn out in almost any conditions to play football
As someone posted the above on another thread, it isn't an easy life being a full time pro.
-
Because its the truth of what lee would say to there faces.
If you constantly criticise him then go out there and do his job.
everyone thinks a footballers life is easy but it aint
they train for hours every day, ( think penney has them in mornin and afternoon now? )
then they turn out in almost any conditions to play football then have grumpy fans who believe we should be attractin really good players and winning constantly
Lets see how everyone else turns out after training for 5-6 hours a day then running around in any condition and having fans living in a dream world constantly moanin about them
If you complain about the players then YOU go out there and do better instead of sittinn on the computer moanin about it
So why doesnt everyone shut up moanin about our players and support them instead?
give them confidence to perform well and wont get moaned at for every mistake they make
Poor souls, "morning and afternoon". Bet our troops in Afghanistan really feel for them.

but really what the hell is going on with our crowds?
im gonna put it down to no 'marquee' players to get the punters in
I'd put it down to value for money

Ground share with Latics ?
Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised. The times they are a changing, like it or not.
-
No, not that type. Soccer.
Should Latics, as one of only a handful of American Owned teams, be looking to the US college system for players?
Much like the tradition set by the NFL/NBA/NHL the MLS is now looking to colleges for their future stars. Kasey Keller and Brad Friedel are notable graduates of the US college system over recent years and are now established at the highest level of the sport.
Could OAFC look to Manchester University or Manchester Metropolitan University as partners to provide an effective exchange system for some of the players? Whilst benefiting from these potentially talented players Latics could at the same time provide the youth players at Latics the chance to work with people of a college/university education.
It's not suprising to note that most professional athletes in the US are much more inteligent and articulate than their British counterparts, thanks mostly to the college structure and to be surounded by these people can only provide a good example to the young Latics players.
Thoughts, opinions, so forth...?
It could work, I think lower league clubs need to start looking at other ways of finding talent. I think Everton were running a series of trials in the US in a sort of "Football Idol" type contest, not sure how that went, but maybe the days of giving journeymen players one last pay cheque to go through the motions could be coming to an end

At the moment, it's just flu that a few more people are catching than would usually get flu. A bugger if you get it, and if you are ill, old or frail already, it might see you off or make you really bad, if not you will be :censored:ed for a couple of weeks.
I take it your not in the medical profession LL?

Emailed the idea to Alan Hardy on the Sunday evening Joe was appointed.
Reply on Monday saying they would consider something similar for the final 3 games.
Failed to grasp the opportunity there.
Sales and Marketing in general doesn't seem to be a strong point at the Club, and considering it is run by three successful business men I find this quite remarkable.

I noticed we were getting supporters from as far a field as South Croydon, it's going to get like Old Trafford full of southern glory hunters. That's it, I'm not going anymore.
