  1. Watching Latics I've visited all but 4 of the football league teams ( Barnet, D&R, Yeovil and Shrewsbury), plus Barrow, Torquay, Southport, Cambridge, Halifax, York, Rushden, Oxford, Burton and Exeter. Also visited many other grounds UK and worldwide, and seen two European cup finals (Rome 84, and Heysel 85), a Toyota Cup final, a few FA cup finals, a handful of Internationals, and amongst many other games a hugely memorable Littlewoods cup final . I only go to moan
  2. My earlier post details examples heard and commented on by a number of people who sit near me. Put simply, everyone has the right to moan at something they believe unacceptable - manager or paying spectator. However, abusive, unfounded or non constructive comments from ANYONE are not going to help. Shez and TW could lead by example on that score.
  3. You know what? You've got a point. Maybe I shouldn't get annoyed when some cock in the paddock abuses the youngsters - because those kids won't buckle under the weight of criticism. Did the argument just go full circle or am I too naive to realise that abuse is ok if it comes from the manager?
  4. Over the last few weeks Wolfy (After 2 mins on the pitch) has endured "Call yourself a professional footballer? !", Taylor (Whilst on the left) has been subjected to "Beat the man or f***ing give up the game" and Lomax must be a nervous wreck with the constant yelling aimed at him. There are many ways to handle people, and sometimes a good kick up the aristotle is just what's needed, but those youngsters needed encouragement on the pitch and the ass kicking in the dressing room, otherwise they are experiencing the same weight on their shoulders as when the abusive fans rip them apart. The Half time break is an opportunity to say to a youngster "I picked you because you're a damn good player and I know you can do better than that - go back out there and prove me right". Maybe Shez did that on Sat, we don't know, but the performance improved. We need to remember that JS and TW know a great deal about football, but that doesn't mean they know anything about man-management. That is yet another rung on the ladder to successful football management.
  5. You should know by now Terry, even constructively critical valid points are unacceptable if they are aimed at the Messiah Give the guy a break will you? he's rightly pointed out that shez often yells some ridiculous confidence shattering abuse at his own players. It's not just the moaners who need to consider what they're shouting.
  6. No, can't be. Brian is the image of Barney Rubble and never sported facial hair.
  7. One of many Terry - I remember his regular Wed night spot in the Farewell (1982) where he'd lift up his pint and say "Shall we?" to which the whole pub would respond by raising their glasses and shouting "We shall!" He still says it over the fence to my mate now. He has many drink related phrases. Kets - he no longer lives in Derker, singing drunkenly obviously pays cos he's moved to Lees now.
  8. Best cabaret act I ever saw in Oldham were Lemonade. Wonder what Tony et al are up to now... Tony's still doing his stuff around the town. He lives next door to my mate Brian, and is unbelievably different when he is sober. "shall we drink?" is his catchphrase!
  9. Don't think it's a definitive list, I couldn't see Ole Bjorn Sundgot there either - It's about as good as you'll get though, for sure.
  10. Just before it closed it changed to 'Rif-Rafs'. It was still as bad as BaliHoo though.
  11. I DJ'd at a few places in Oldham, and there was NOWHERE as bad as The Moorend. Every area in the place had a code word, so if it kicked off left of the bar for instance, the DJ would call out "Mickey Mouse" and the gorillas would come running to that area to sort it out. If it kicked off all over the club I used to feel a right top hat stood there shouting "Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny etc" while there was blood and snot flying everywhere. The bouncers used to dictate what was played half the time - they were very persuasive!, but stuff like the Jam kept everyone busy dancing so they were happy to let you play it. Anyone remember the Tower club and Oscars just at the back of the Moor end? BTW my sister in law was Ken Naylor's (candlelight owner) partner for quite a while, and there are a lot of untrue rumours going round about him, but he'll admit to any of them if it enhances his badboy reputation!!
  12. I would have thrown my Aunt Doris on rather than watch Rubes get his confidence knocked out of him. We have been told how good Black is.... Let him prove it. Lomax would have been an equally good option as he has proved himself in that position, or maybe at 80 minutes we could have pushed Trotters up front, Rubes into the centre of defence and either one of the aforementioned subs to LB (Preferably Lomax if we were going to play 3 at the back). There were many options, but we chose the one that didn't work again. Wolfy did ok, but we needed a big fella up there.
  13. Quite right Rummy. Too many people would rather insult a person for their different opinion than put together a constructive response to the contrary. To me, that just shows a lower level of intelligence and does nothing to strengthen the value of their own opinion.
  14. ....particularly with a natural left footed player sat on the bench for the whole of the 90+ minutes that Rubes was being fleeced. Sheridan just needs to learn from his mistakes, but unfortunately he is too stubborn to believe he makes them (Quote: "Some of the fans think they know better than me, but they don't"). Anyone who was sat close enough to witness the way our substitution was handled on Saturday could only laugh at the ineptitude and uncertaintity that surrounded it. Much as I'd like to see someone experienced alongside Shez, I think he may be a little too pig-headed to listen to anyone else. As for motivation, I've never heard any of our most critical mainstand moaners match some of the demotivating comments Shez has levelled at young players this season. Sheridan has many qualities, but his ignorance lets him down in a big way.
  15. Personally JP, I enjoy reading how others view it. My expectations aren't particularly high, because I can see through all the promises of "Promotion within two seasons" etc. and realise the club are actually just a mid-table League one outfit. I suppose some of the fans have seen what we are capable of, and expect the same every week. We can't really knock them for having high expectations can we? My only moans are when we don't put the effort in, or make mistakes way below the level of our experience - If they're giving it their all, then there is no reason to moan then.
  16. Is that the same as "Some peoples opinions differ with mine, but I'm sure they have their reasons" or do you truly believe you are always right? We have way too much infighting between our fans as it is on this board. Why can't we accept that message boards are for promoting your opinion as you see it, without creating a gap between 'Them and Us'? We are all Latics fans, but view the team's efforts in different ways, like we are all music fans but some people prefer it played a different way. Everyone will be supporting Latics on Saturday - let's do it as one group. (LOUDLY!).
  17. Stop whinging will ya! There's enough moaners at BP as it is apparently! Anyway, I've had my enjoyment of games totally ruined by half hearted substandard performances.
  18. Sure Rick, I agree the atmosphere was poor for a team who were leading 1-0. Maybe the moaners are expecting what happened to happen. Chicken and egg syndrome I suppose - moaners want something to cheer about and the team need cheering on to produce something for the moaners. We can only hope as a group of supporters that the right thing happens soon.
