He played 30+ games and scored 10 in the Dutch top flight last year and has been linked to Anderlecht & RC Lens amongst others this summer.

But we have to give him a trial to see if he's good enough for league 2?

    Can't see it.

Maybe we’re so short on players that city just lent us a pair of legs.

    I voted yes.

In our good patches this season he's shown more than many managers we've had and the football was good.

    I like him.

I think the continuity keeping him would offer isn't to be sniffed at - he knows the pro's and con's of whichever players are still here in August.

I'd like to think he could sign some decent players while his contacts are still what they are not long after him finishing playing. (This might be more the case in League One than League Two though)

I've got a gut feeling he'll come good as a manager and I'd like it to be with us rather than someone else.

I was about to reply as to why I voted yes.  This says it all though.  Good post.

(E2A: lights were on in Lemmy's office when I passed at 6.45pm. Either Fane's agent is playing hardball or he's got lawyers too.)

I like it when he’s referred to as Lemmy.  I picture him sat in his office, resplendent in cowboy hat and latics scarf, swigging from a Jack Daniels bottle and calling everyone a c**t.

    Happy days.

  4. We usually have at least 1 player who gets double figures.

In 90-91 we didn't have a 20 goal striker Marshall got 18 Redfearn 17 and Ritchie got I think about 15

2002-03 we had 3 players in double figures Eyres, Wijnhard, and Andrews.

2006-07 Porter got 19 Liddell and Warne both got double figures.

So if your not going to get a striker who gets 20 you can still be successful if you have 3-4 who get double figures.

Although to say we are better off with 2 9 goal a season strikers over a 20 goal one is abit silly really isnt it? :)

Not silly in the context I put it in. If we have a 20 goal striker who has only reached 10 by xmas and then goes in the window because we can't hold our own water, never mind a half decent player, then we have 10 goals. If we have two 9 goal strikers who fly under the radar and don't get sold we have 18 goals at the end of the season.

Obviously a 20 goal striker is better but we'd have more chance of holding onto a greasy pig.

Didn't realise the front 3 had been so prolific back in 06. Good times......

  5. Why do we keep banging on about a 20 goal striker? I can't remember the last time we had one, although I'm sure a statto will tell us soon enough. Even if we did get one, he'd never reach 20 unless he was fringing exceptional because he'd be flogged for an undisclosed fee in the January window. We'd be better off getting a pair of average strikers who flew under the radar whilst quietly knocking in 9 each. Have we even had a 9 goal striker in the last few years?

  6.

So by your own admission...the fact we DONT play hardball means this possible forthcoming relegation could soon be followed by another...

But hey...let's not worry about that eh!

I didn't say anything like that at all.

I agree we roll over at the earliest bid, and I agree other clubs see us as a 'historical' soft touch. And I also agree that Crewe play hard ball and therefore also are not seen as a soft touch.

Someone said it made no difference as they are still doing crap. I was trying to make the point that if they didn't play hard ball then they may be in a much worse position.

  7. Crewe may have got better deals for their players....but it doesn't look like they invest it back into the playing side. I bet their fans want to know where their money from those sales has gone. How many times have they been out of the bottom 4 when in league 1?

They may be at the foot end of league one, but if they didn't play hardball they may have been in the conference.

  8. The club release no statement and everybody speculates as to whether or not we actually got anything. Lots of bollocks about 'I know this' and 'I know that'.

The club then release a statement and people whine about it, claiming it tells you nothing etc etc.

I tell you what, it's depressing going to the games these days but it's damn gut churning coming on here. Some people need to pull their heads out of their arses and realise the club owe them absolutely NOTHING. If they don't want to tell you how much they got for whatever deal they don't have to do. And if corney and co do read anything on here then it's no wonder they keep so much secret. Unbelievable.

This is my first post for god knows how long and probably my last for as long too. I just can't handle it.

  9. Wasn't particularly slow but just looked uneasy, even when jogging.

Although, this might have always been case and not in any way related to his injury.

Yaya Toure walks like he's stolen someone else's hips, so if he plays like him I'll be happy.

Just make sure we get him a birthday cake......

  10. I think we will all agree that Liam didn't pull up any trees in his first half a dozen games, but as the season wore on and his own fitness, strength and match sharpness returned and not withstanding the teams overall development to play the way that LJ wanted them too, I think he shone out like a light and showed how crucial he was to the team's tactics and ethos. None more so than when he was injured and the team capitulated whilst flirting with the play-offs.

To me it boils down to:-

    1. How much money Barnsley are willing to pay for him.

    2. If DK can bring someone in Liam's position who fits his style of play better and is maybe a cheaper option.

    3. If DK feels that he needs the money to strengthen other parts of the squad.

Personally a Latics line up that doesn't have Liam Kelly in it is a weakened one, but how many of us said that when Korey Smith left.

The same Korey smith that just got promoted and made team of the season? We need to keep him. What's the bloody point of selling ur best player every year to another team in this crap division. We'll never ever improve if we do, just keep treading water.

  11. Yeah I thought it was a corner too. However, despite Lockwood passing it to their goal scorer for the first, he controled it with his arm before sticking it past Coleman. Should have won 2-1.

And the foul the ref gave towards the end???? Possibly against Lockwood although I can't remember now, in our right back position. He ran across the player and took the ball. Their player didn't trip, fall or even appeal yet the ref saw something wrong with it?!!! Did I miss something there?

  12. Not true.... The beer is in your stomach slowly being absorbed long after you finish drinking if you have drunk a lot.

Yes but she had left the club and spent an hour in a kebab shop, then travelled to the hotel..... We're looking at 90 mins here. She isn't getting drunker, she's getting soberer erer ererer.

Edit. Typed is rather than isn't. Which changes the whole point!
