  1. Im no leader and ive got tickets up till the Fleetwood game if the attitude of the players doesnt change that will be it for me, its not letting off steam its saying it as it is I dont give two hoots whose sat through what over the years I work hard for my money but wont keep parting with it to watch players who putting it bluntly dont give a :censored:, if people wanna put up with that its fine but for me I will give it a miss and leave you to it.

And neither should you just as I don't give two hoots about about what you sat through today. Look on the brightside at least at this time of year it won't be long before Santa brings you a new dummy to replace the one you've just spat out.

  2. As Ive parted with the best part of £150 for three of us to watch that shower today how do I go about claiming a refund ? Dont mind paying to follow my team but to be embarressed by that today was shocking.

In the late 60's I watched Latics get thrashed 8-1 at Peterborough not a barrel of laughs but refunds never crossed my mind. Not nice but it happens you'll get over it in about 40 odd years.

  3. 1953/54 was the worst, when the Board made no attempt to strengthen George Hardwick's superb Third Division North champions and we went straight back down. Two of the worst which suddenly became great ones to remember were 1965/66, when the Bates era began that Xmas. We were very unlucky to lose in the FA cup to West Ham, the European Cup-Winner's Cup holders and with the nucleus of the World Cup winners a few months later. The win at home against Oxford in the last game of the season, which kept us up, was a great ending, and we were on Match of the Day - in those days there was only one main match, something unthinkable in these days of the society of the spectacle.1969/70 was heading for Gotterdamerung when we lost 8-1 at Peterborough, again just before Xmas. Jimmy Frizzell took over and we had a magnificent time avoiding what had seemed to be certain re-election; next season we got promoted, with King of the jungle, Jim Fryat,t leading the charge.

Yes i was "fortunate" enough to have seen our 8-1 defeat at Peterborough after which the Chron reporter and legendary boozer Jim Williams claimed we were unlucky. 68/69 was dreadful and 69/70 started even worse until Jimmy Frizz took over.

  4. Bert Lister scored around 100 goals for the Latics, but I can't remember any best goals..they all seemed to be bundled in from 6 yards..we could do with a Bert Lister style player now.

True but I do remember Bert netting a cracker from outside the box.. Against Liverpool at BP in 62, sadly ruled out due to a linesman's flag. The linesmen did us no favours in that match Liverpool being awarded a goal for a shot that hit the bar and clearly landed on the line.

  5.

Those are the players names that I most associate with a Latics team. Ask me to name more than 2 players from 6yrs ago and I would struggle but those names are indelibly written in my memory,

Ditto, Some decent players there......Ian T, Dennis Stevens and old favourites Bob Ledger and the Jim's Bowie and Frizzell. Albert Quixall, one of the greatest let downs ever for Latics, Ronnie Swan arguably the worst Latics keeper in living memory, I liked Reggie Blore but most at danger with one one his shots were the pigeons sat on top of the Chaddy Road stand. Great pic never seen it before. Thanks Pete, nice one.

  6. "We simply do not create enough chances"

    THIS

PNE away, is continually being held up as a great performance. I was never impressed with it. Other than set pieces we had 2 long range shots. That to me isn't great play throughout a game, great possession yes. Great play to me is opening a team up and creating chances.

How many chances did he have in his time here? Not That many.

Granted i've only watched highlights of the SPL but from what I've seen Rooney's movement in the box for Aberdeen is no different to what it was here. The difference is in the delivery of the ball which for Aberdeen is decent whilst ours was abject to say the least. Rooney made some excellent diagonal runs in the penalty area but unfortunately Smith and Wes can't seem to pass a ball accurately over more than a few feet and the delivery from out wide just as bad. A good player has slipped through our fingers but it isn't the first time and won't be the last. Johnson's comments when Rooney departed were embarrassingly stupid.

  7. I vaguely remember losing 4-0 at bournemouth on a tuesday night years ago, long way home on a tuesday!!!! Pretty sure it was a tuesday anyway!

I distinctly remember losing 5-0 at Bournemouth early 1971 ? We travelled down on the football league liner train with the disco carriage on the back end playing northern soul. A sogging wet day when Ted McDougal scored a few against us.and Jim Bowie had a nightmare. From the days when away games were a proper experiience.

  8. At our level knowing there is a player in there it has surely got to be worth a try, LJ will do all he can to unlock Sidney, if he does get the best out of him he will be a joy to watch.

Totally agree, the lad's a joy to watch now inbetween both penalty areas. Bags of skill and tricks and then when he gets in sight of the box the only danger is a cull of pigeons passing the time of day on the Chaddy stand. How do you coach it into a player to calm down in that situation ?

  9. If he was 23 and had been playing English football all his career fair enough. It's his first season over here, so I think it's worth giving him a chance to adapt and improve!

If your head goes to bits when you reach the oppositions box it matters not where you are playing. Same applies to his defensive frailties. Like I said there's a player in there whether or not you can prise it out of him is a different matter.. My guess is not but I'd be delighted to be proved wrong.

  10. I am pleasantly surprised by the replies which seem to agree that we do have potentially a very talented and fast player in Sidney and if used correctly, i.e. told not to defend in our half, he might turn into a good 'un. He does need some game time though to enable him to begin to make better choices, and i agree that is better away, not just so he can obviously play on the break, but also so that he can try a few tricks and dummies without listening to any (or many) moaners who berate him for not playing a square pass. Cheers KTF!

There's a player in Sidney though how you unlock his potential is anyone's guess. A defensive disaster whose head goes to bits when he reaches the oppositions penalty box. If he was 18/19 he'd be well worth being patient with......at 23 I don't know.

  11.

We need to learn how to play to Rooney's strengths. It's brainless booting it up to his head - he's clearly not that sort of player.

Glory hallelujah, some sense at last. Rooney is not a target man and expecting him to play well as one is clearly brainless. Unfortunataly all the strikers we've brought into the club during the close season are very similar and IMO it was a big mistake not signing a target man.

  12. The team formation during the first half was an absolute disaster, with square peg Simpson looking clueless on the left and Bernard virtually on his own chasing shadows up front and winning nothing.

LJ has continued with the much derided 2 holding midfielders, is it no wonder goals are hard to come by?

At least he changed it in the second half, but the damage had been done.

4-4-2 at home in future please, with only one holding midfielder.

Spot on pal, Johnson got it wrong big time today it was so utterly abject I've no idea what the formation was supposed to be.

  13. I don't want him dropped, only to learn from his mistakes.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't think he will learn. A few minutes before the goal he dwelt on the ball on the edge of our box and Kitson blocked his clearance but fortunately the ball ran for us. That should have rung a warning bell but obviously didn't. He may well be a young kid but it happens too often with him. Less of the cultured centre back and more of the Sean Garnett is what is required. When in doubt kick it out.

  14. And take the job. Once in a lifetime opportunity to really make a difference at a club you obviously love. You are by far the best man for the job, don't waste this chance.

Given the fact that on average a Latics manager can expect to get fired after two years by our trigger happy Chairman I think TP is taking an understandable decision NOT to apply. He's.happy in his current job not many can say that these days. Good luck to him.
