  1. I'm genuinely so scared for our future, if we go down we're done for

No one wants to get relegated but it doesn't have to be the end of the world. We went down to the old fourth division in 1969, it seemed like the end of the world then yet iafter two years we were back in the third division. And three years later promoted to what is now the Championship. It doesn't have to spell disaster.

  2. Times up.

2 weeks to prepare for the big one.

Now has to be the time for change

Corney says it's a results driven business, so why the delay?

Of course it's a result driven business. And after over nine years of being our leader what are Corney's results ?

  3. I know the probable outcome and the fact that there are probably hundreds of these across the forum but I want to know just how much the pendulum has swung.

note; these are a random amalgamation of managers and none have been officially linked or would necessarily be right for the job.

Dickov in, Corney out. If only..............

  4. But there I'd get chatting to this pretty nice sort which was easy because I could pull song lyrics out of my arse which were really by the Beatles

    Yeah. That's what I'd do.

Interesting, does anyone else carry Beatles lyrics around with them stuck up their backside and if not why not ? And was the pretty nice sort male or female ? Quite disturbing ;-)

  5. Good idea, let's take our only player capable of scoring a goal and stick him on the halfway line.

Too true that was a brilliant goal scored by Baxter yesterday. Not only did he take the corner he managed to dash into the box and head it in. And grew about 8 inches in the process. Seriously, this lad is made for midfield his ability to "pick the lock" is there for all to see. Not as part of a 4-4-2 formation though he's hardly a 90 minute runner. More a 3-5-2 but rightly or wrongly Dickov doesn't seem to think our players are suited to it.

  6. Yes I was there.

In those days you could change ends at half time and so ,loads of us swapped to be behind the goal Latics attacked in each half.

MOTD was on BBC 2 and not everybody could get that - had to have a special tv set - so went round to a neighbour to watch it.

Yep, i was there as well. It wasn't a special TV set you needed it was a different aerial. Fortunately my dad was a TV engineer and he borrowed one from work. It should have been roof mounted so we had to try various positions in the lounge to get a picture. My poor mother had to stand on a chair holding the aerial for the duration of the broadcast.

  7. Byrne's clearing header was going for a throw-in

Did anyone doubt Tarkowski would give the penalty away at the end .....he is a long way from the finished article , Byrne is streets ahead of our other centre halfs.

Let's agree it would have knocked the corner flag into orbit. Totally agree about Byrne, a consummate pro at this level.

  8. We were atrocious however Cliff Byrne, the exception being the very unfortunate own goal header, he saved us quite a few times from their potent crosses in the first half. They would have had many tap-ins had he not been there to clear, some of them being awkward clearances too.

    He was decent.

Byrne's header was going for a corner and deflected off Tarky (I think) but I'd agree Byrne had an excellent game.

  9. I really rated him, strange how it hasn't happened for him. Brilliant reactions and shop-stopping ability; if a little prone to rushes of blood.

    Is he still at Chesterfierld?

Fleming is at Grimsby, those rushes of blood you refer to were his achilles heel no doubt.

  10. Its just a case of stupid mistakes costing us the second we can put down as a fluke but the first goal was criminal the guy ran straight past Grounds who was marking space and had all the time in the world to pick his spot.

A stupid mistake was what cost us against walsall the goals against sheffield wednesday were preventable cut these out and we win games, we pick up points, we get on a roll, confidence builds, and people start coming back to BP, sometimes the little things can make a big difference.

Grounds was poor and more awareness could have prevented the goal but just how far had the scorer run without being picked up ? At a guess I'd say about 50 yards. More often than not goals happen due to a combination of factors and rarely due to one mistake

  11. I thought there would already be a thread on this but it obviously does depend on which players make mistakes these days?

First one: centre half, Mvoto? or Byrne? stood flat footed and left his man in 10 yards of space in the box to finish again? it wasnt Tarky thats for sure

From what I saw it wasn't Byrne or M'Voto's fault rather no one tracked their scorers run. Anyone know where Grounds was, maybe still in the dressing room ?
