  1. My opinion for what its worth is I hope it isn't true as I don't want the club getting attention for the wrong reasons. It will all be negative. I don't give a :censored: what other football clubs fans think as if it was their club it would be like this. Some never going again , some disgusted and some trying to reason its a good thing.

If we sign him I will support Oldham Athletic and still watch. I will even cheer if he scores because its for my team who I've supported for 30 years. I don't have to agree with it. I don't have to like it.

One of the things that gripes me (convictions aside) l don't even think he is that good. Will he score 20 goals for my team ?

Whether people like it or not the law in our country is set up in away that if found guilty you serve your sentence and you are free to carry on with your life. No where does it state that you can't work in a job that some deem to be privileged.

For all those who will stop going. Do you remember when Oldham Athletic went out of business when Lee Hughes signed? Why cut your nose off to spitevyour face? Morals are one thing but you as a small minority won't change it IF he signs.

I hope he is signing for Barnsley but if not then Come on Oldham!

I hope, and I think, its more than a small minority Palmer...

  2. Sly! you're one of the smartest posters on here generally. You're taking me slightly out of context though. What I mean is, if the club believes we should sign him then just do it and announce it as fait a complit.......no need to test the water, they must know there will be outcry so if they haven't already weighed up all the issues then they are truly incompetent.

Apologies, I get what you mean now. I think?

As in, our names already sullied with all this; so might aswell sign him now as a result?

If i've got that right, then i disagree.

Think this is still salvagable from the club's PoV. After due consideration of their own fans views, the club can decide to not proceed. In the immediate aftermath; maybe have one of our home games dedicated to a rape charity or rape support group and do bucket collection and the like. Seek to make ammends.

Its not too late for the club to reverse and U-turn this decision...

  3. This is a worrying aspect for me. All that guff about a properly researched player, fitting into the team and all that. Will be proved a load of bollocks if he signes. I will be very sceptical of anything Lee Johnson says if we sign him. In fact, I'll call him out as a bull:censored:ter if we do.

    Yep, good point.

    Due dilligance my arse...

  4. What's all this 1 in 3 about?

You need to put it into context for our level. He spent 1 season playing in league 1 and got 29 goals in 36 games.

Get him signed up. I just pray that he has the mental strength to deal with the abuse that he will get from the fans and rewards us with loyalty should other more 'desirable' clubs come sniffing around after the furore has died down or if begets his conviction quashed? He been out for months so has had ample time to test the water elsewhere. His representatives should have been in contact with every club, they wouldn't take him then so they can sod off in future if he's banging them in for fun.

He cost £3m, that's 4 times our all time record transfer spend, Ian Olney, and you can bet that due to the time involved and the fact clubs are fighting over him there won't be a signing on fee.

£3m striker for free? Yes please!

In a side that had better players than we do currently? Yep.

And before he's spent 2 and half years, plus what; 3/4 months of not even professionally training, let alone playing professional football.

I struggle to see how he can be anywhere near fitness; let alone match fitness and sharpness.

Short term deal? He'll be just about getting there as the season and his deal ends.

And to what end? A couple of goals if we're lucky. And to what detriment? A whole host of fans by the lucks of it, and perm damaged to our reputation.

Calculated risk? Whoever has done the calculating has got it way, way wrong IMO...

  5. Look, the Callum Robinson example was just that, an example used in response to a poster asking for my suggestions of alternatives to Ched Evans.

    I gave one.

I think the salinent points of us signing an unrepentent and unremorseful rapist are being lost on the goalscoring merits of a potential Aston Villa loanee here.

The bigger picture is that there are plenty of other players available - on loan or as perm signings, who could come in and score goals. Who havent raped anyone and thus will not be bringing all the baggage and media circus with them, and dragging the clubs name through the muck again.

Oh, Matt Derbyshire. There's another one. Derbyshire on loan till the end of the season...

Anyways, it's not the point in the bigger picture of all this is it?

  6. 1 in 3 goal ratio. Surely we can find someone with a similar record minus all the baggage?!

I can't understand why we would sign him

That's one of the real things I'm stuggling with: namely, why him?

He's not worth all the negativity surely?

Other 1 in 3 Strikers who haven't raped anybody are out on the market.

    Sign one of them instead.

  7. So, do I have first dibs..?

    Ha!

I mulling over what to do with my ST if tomorrow brings its expected announcement.

I'll bare you in mind as one of tbe options of what i'll do. I've got:

Asking the club to refund the remaining games

Throwing it at LJ's feet in disgust and walking out

Throwing it at the Directors Box and walking out

    Giving it away

I would say though, be warned; whilst i'm dam near pitch side and it has its benifits; i've missed most of our goals playing towards the Chaddy End; its awful seat for that!!! And i have no roof so you'll need waterproofs. And the seat back is broken!!!!!!!!!

  8. Can't see anyone stopping going this season would make any difference to be honest. Probably half of our crowd is made up of season ticket holders who have already paid so the financial gamble is simply one of would a drop off in pay on the day customers be offset by a return in transfer fee at the end of the season, should the goals go in.

On a purely financial angle, I can imagine the cub probably think it's a risk worth taking.

Leaving the moral issue aside for the time being, Long term though Twis; surely its a feckin awful business decision?

Yep, i get your point, as a ST holder; i've already paid up and the club already has my money. But what of this season with the walk-up's and pay on the dayers? And then, next season with both ST's and pay on the days?

The expected drop wont surely be offset by any transfer fee surely? Add into that the negative media coverage and the media circus that will follow us around whilst he's here.

I mean, i know fans who stopped coming and havent been back since for Lee Hughes signing. This would be the same no?

I can't believe that they (club officials; management, whoever) would entertain this?
