  1. What that was was a team in transition against a better team and we only conceded one goal whilst trying to get forward. I would rather lose whilst attempting something new than settle for the defeatist approach adopted by Dickov. This is not a one season project. LJ has made the first step in changing our players and our style.

What we have here are comments by fans. Being a supporter means you support what the club is trying to do.

Unfortunately modern day supporters don't have the patience for 'transition' and 'projects' anymore. Yes, yesterday was frustrating, but we were only beaten 1-0 by a very well organised side. The only hyperbole I've seen has been some of the reactions to the defeat.

  2.

To be fair, if someone has an opinion and they have a stab at backing it up with reasonable debate, well then I welcome that to this forum. However, some of the responses...

Definitely, that's the whole point of a forum. But it's a fine line between expressing an opinion and posting nonsense just to blow off steam, which seems to have been happening a lot tonight. Hopefully tomorrow will bring some more reasoned (and sober) debate.

  3. We were garbage, Walsall weren't nowt special either.

Bad day at the office, let's hope there aren't many more like it.

I thought Walsall were decent actually, a very professional away performance. I hope we learn as much from their display as ours.

It's going to take time. Johnson clearly has an ideology in mind and that kind of style doesn't develop overnight, especially at this level. For once, Latics fans need to show some patience. Some of the responses to today's display have been pretty odd, it really wasn't that bad. Patience.

  4. Heaven forbid that anyone should have a different view. Sterile.

Everybody's entitled to have different views. But when they're as daft as this:

You will only get one positive from me, Tarkowski, the rest should be ashamed of themselves - including the manager and coaching staff.

they're probably best kept to yourself.

  5. Just remember that great expectations breed disappointment.

Has anyone actually got great expectations though? I'd say most Latics fans realistically would be happy just to improve drastically on last season, maybe with a comfortable mid-table finish. And there's nothing to say we couldn't make a push for the play-offs, given how dire this division is yet again. I haven't really noticed all this 'hyperbole' some people seem to keep bringing up. Although I haven't been visiting this place that often...

  6. Certainly not the home start that was needed or brings a few more back into fold but crikey FIFA and Football Manager a lot to answer for more managers than we need from the support which at home is appalling. On players backs of young/new players far far too quick. First touch Brown had a bloke near us shouted ":censored: of Brown your cack." fabulous!!!!!!!!!!! Same bloke "Byrne you tart :censored: off back to Scunny." ..... Players start to look scared of making a mistake. Rooney needs service like many before not 8ft hit and hope balls.

This is what has frustrated me. It's not just your run of the mill booing and moaning, it's actual personal abuse. A fella behind me called Byrne a :censored:ing prick. Two games in and it's started already. I'm gonna lose my rag one of these days, it's appalling.

  7. Oh dear my first game seeing our new look team and from the hype, expected some goals.

I know we should not really be concerned until we ae about 10 matches in but tbh, I am, did not look much of an improvement on last season

Need a central defender ASAP and a midfielder with a bit of bite please

Top 10 finish if we are lucky

Now I need more vino..let kicking the dog season commence

I'd be delighted with a top ten finish. This is a rebuilding season, we aren't going to get promoted.

  8. First I've seen of this new lot and I don't think we were that bad. There's plenty of work to be done, but there's enough encouraging signs. I think once this front six get properly accustomed to each other we could be a force. Rome wasn't built in a day and all that.

If there's one thing that'll stop me going to home matches though, it's the moaners. It only took them 30 odd minutes to start up today. I'm sick to my back teeth of it in all honesty, it's the same every season.
