  1. I'm not saying you're lying, you probably are telling the truth. But why has/would Corney tell a fan how much a players release clause is?

.....because it was Prozac - someone with a good profile on the fans message boards, and someone who he could trust not to be sensatinalist with the information he was willing to impart. Its £250k.... however, it could've been £0 and 0p if he'd have gone to Peterborough in January, so we should be grateful for what we have.

  2. There is probably a suitable thread for this somewhere, but I couldn't find it so here we go....

Football365 has Arsenal in for Micah Richards. Not usually a source of ridiculous rumour but loose rumor based on a sepc of truth. Wenger has money to burn and after losing at home to Villa could we bell about to indirectly help us afford a new centre half too. Here's hoping....

  3. ....from a Saints fan I know.... Where Mills started out...

"Yes, wished we'd never let him go. Small left back but v. good in his late teens for us. Given a proper chance I think he can be a good player. Definitely should great at League 1 level".

If he's small I don't see how he'll play at CH like Mike Keegan has just tweeted....!

  4. ....was on BBC last night, presented by Clarke Carlisle, possibly the most articulate and erudite [former] footballer I know.

If you haven't seen it... it’s well worth finding on iplayer.

Sadly, we all know football is macho and so unlike the rest of society, admitting mental illness or homosexuality, is not common place, which leads to discrimination and prejudice.

However, I found Clarke’s description of abuse from the terrace – from his own supporters – to be particularly painful to listen to, especially when I often hear Latics fans getting on the back’s of our own players when they inevitably have a bad game.

Mr Carlisle explained how this affected his state of mind and ultimately his performance. Our lads need to hear us support them and sing their names.

I am as astounded as Prozac with some of the comments posted on here in the last week… and interaction seemingly with Cliff Byrne’s wife, after only 2 league games of the season.

We have a good young manager, a solvent club [ref Coventry if you want something to moan about], some exciting young players and some committed older pro’s like Cliff to look after them.

Get behind the lads and they’ll do better than if you moan at them.

See you all at London Road. COME ON OLDHAM!

  5. ...after Walsall lost Grigg, Brandy & Paterson I thought they'd struggle. 2 wins out of 2 have made me think again. It's a tough game, followed next week by a Peterborough that whalloped Colchester 5-1 in the week. Let's not expect too much too soon and stay behind LJ and the lads and in particular David Mellor! Come on Oldham!

  6. £4 sundries per person??

There is no increase of income for Latics on number of pies or the amount of pop sold, catering is contracted out.

Anything bought in the club shop would probably have been bought at a later date anyway.

Only sundries I can think of are car parking and programmes - not £4 per person

Programmes, carparking, share of food & drinks turnover from caterers. We'll earn some money on all. I'm taking a punt that per person that'll be £4. Could be more, could be less, it's simply an estimate.

  7. 4,200 x £8.75 (assuming that's roughly the average ticket admission pp) + 4,200 x £4.00 (average sundries pp) = £53,550

.....which turns over the same money as just under 2,500 fans at £17.50 (average admission) + £4 sundries.....!

So, so long as we don't think there'd have been much more than 2,500 without Corney's admission initiatives it was a winner for atmosphere, support of the team and the club's purse. With a bit of look some stayaways might now fancy coming on Saturday now they can see how we're shaping up.

    Well done SC.

  8. Fair summary Prozac. Was very impressed with MacDonald too. Thought Baxter was at times a little prima dona like. Not playing to the whistle and expecting free kicks. That said, the boy is class.

Both Tarky & Mellor are great ball playing centre halves. I also like the way Oxley has clearly been told not to lump it forward all the time, and instead find a ball playing defender. Would like to give Mellor some more time to see if he can make that position work for him. It's gonna be fun...! :)

  9.

Can we sign Mark Owen ?

I actually played against Mark Owen in the late nineties. He was a right winger playing for a team called Kirby Lonsdale. Our left back tackled him in the 1st 10 mins and left him on the deck.... While he shouted 'Take That''.....! He got a yellow!

  10. Shows how it can be a 'buying' (recruiting club's market)

LJ had been true to his word about the quality available within our constraints, which is testament to his persuasive abilities. Although I am greedy and want that centre half in sooner rather than later.

We've not loaded ourselves with loaners either yet and according to SC out budget didn't yet include loanees do I'm hoping there may well still he that option once clubs settle down and decide which lads don't figure or the ones they want to get out there and play regular football.

.....are you going to the meeting @ 3pm Prozac? It would be interesting to know what the longer term plans are for that position. Apparently Mellor played the position in the junior ranks, so he's not a complete novice to the role, but I get the impression it isn't a long term solution....!
