  1. This is going to sound harsh and maybe pointless but i just want to be objective for a moment.

Do we as a town deserve a club?

There are over 200,000 (according to '01 census http://www.statistics.gov.uk/census2001/profiles/00bp.asp) in Oldham and we manage to pull in around 4000. So it's safe to say the majority of the town aren't too bothered if there is a football club or not.

Our facilities are poor and dated and there doesn't seem to be any improvement in sight despite efforts by the owner(s) over the past decade.

You could argue that things won't really get better because TV has made football a free commodity and even if we go up the majority of people would rather go the pub and watch the premier league than watch Championship football.

I know that we as a fan base deserve a club because we turn up to support the team week in week out but our numbers are more deserving of low end league two not high end league one.

Arguments to the contrary would be very welcome.

I live in Bristol, a city with a population of 400,000 plus, and within the Greater Bristol area upwards of a million... the nearest prem club is Villa/West brom almost 100 miles north...granted there are 2 clubs..but city are struggling to get 15k and rovers do well to get 6K...what i'm trying to say is just cos we have :censored: facilities (sorry BP) and can only pull 4k home fans on a good day does not mean that the loyal local football loving folk of Oldham do not deserve a team worthy of their support..irrespective of whatever league we are in or how well we are performing...the town deserves a team, hopefully a successful team...btw don't do arguments on the net..its a bit silly

  2. Actually the benefit of Universities to societies is quite massive, the HE Sector is one of the largest sectors in Britain and worth a lot to the local and regional economies, employing 100's of thousands of people, undertaking billions of pounds worth of research and consultancy every year etc etc.

and subsequently providing huge tax income for the government...ad infinitum...

  3. The rumours coming out of Toonside about the Carroll saga are hilarious.

I'm told Liverpool chartered a private jet to fly him in, then the second bid of £35M was rejected but only after Pardew resigned, then when finidng out the bid had been rejected Carroll submitted a formal transfer request from John Lennon Arrivals ... which has been ACCEPTED pending an improved bid from Liverpool!

    pardew resigned.??

  4. Alex Ferguson, like him or loathe him, is a man of decent intergrity. Despite what he says publicly about Crawley and Evans, I'm sure deep down he would love nothing more than to stick a maximum number of goals past this crooked prick. I expect all the "big stars" to play.

blimey....bet that was a struggle to type...

  5. Little boy arrives home to find his mum and dad having sex on the sofa . . .

    Dad says : 'Don't worry son I'm just filling mummy with petrol! . . . . .

Son replies: 'She doesn't do many miles to the gallon does she dad, uncle Dave only filled her up this morning

    quality never fades...

  6. Not really one of my favourite grounds but I am tempted...

but I have already planned a cheaper 'Plan B', Yoofs in the morrow, Gym after and Stalyvegas v Boston in the afternoon - tbh i'm bored with the :censored:ty away trips in this league. I'll make an effort for the Hudds gams and maybe the Orient game on the choo choo and I still have to tick the Mongs new ground off but can't really be arsed with any of the others. I think I've been to most grounds in this league 4 or 5 times now at least and it becomes tedious after 14 years!

    :shock::blink::huh:
