To be fair that's nothing new, just seems quicker to get there now.
And the web (and social media) doesn't help by amplifying every half-baked whine.

My favourite recent post, and I can't find it, was the one pointing out that whatever 'type' of player we go for, someone will moan that we should want someone younger/older/more experienced/less experienced/"hungrier" (whatever that means), etc.

Please can someone let me know the success rate of DUs stats bombs?
I wouldn't imagine it's a very high success rate.
But as you well know, DU's failure doesn't mean the whole idea is flawed. Any more than a team with bad scouts means all scouts are bad.

Fair enough. I don’t think anyone here was suggesting all-tech, all-data, no-humans was the answer though.
-
BP, surely you recognise (as Ackey says) that using technology and data with people is the way to go?
Your post makes it sound like you see no value at all in data or stats or anything more advanced than a clipboard.
Which would be, of course, a view you’re entitled to, and I don’t question your actual lived experience.
But if every major club in the world is employing tech and data as part of their scouting, doesn’t that suggest they know something and it’s not quite that simple?

If we did, it would be peanuts. Compensation won’t be generous.

Atherton, Williams (centre back) and Doro (left back) offered professional terms.

Dapo Afolayan (10 appearances, 0 goals on loan in 2019) scores twice to take FC St Pauli into the Bundesliga.

Wayne Andrews and Fitz Hall from Chesham?
Edit: though we did pay a fee for Hall, I think.

Bit disappointed still no word from the club on contracts for youth players. It would be nice if some were decent enough prospects to make it to next season's squad.

Can't answer for him, but why would he EFL have a view on what's right in leagues outside their remit? Presumably EFL members would be very happy being able to cherrypick non-league talent for buttons.
I quite agree with you that it might be 'wrong', but it would be naive for me to expect an organisation set up to guard its members' interests to look for others' interests.
The FA, on the other hand... but again I assume the influence of bigger clubs is greater than non-league on its thinking. Was always thus.

How many of the youths have we given contracts to?
Foreshaw?Atherton?
Not sure how it works at this level but surely we should be tying some of these lads up.
The club said they would announce youth info soon.
Forshaw was already under contact and will be released.

Having 7 subs and being able to use 5 from next season is a game changer and hopefully should help massively with a pathway from the youth team to first team.
Wait what? I missed this news. -

We sign players from clubs in lower divisions "why we signing players from tinpot clubs? "
We sign players from teams who have won this division "well it didn't work when we signed players from Stockport "
We sign players from higher divisions "why we signing L2 rejects "
We don't sign anyone ""
Very well said. -
If the club knowingly hired a manager who doesn't believe in trying out youth team players, then the recruitment process is also to blame.
At the same time, the record of the players who've left us doesn't suggest there's a stellar production line we're missing out on. I know, there may be some great prospects right now. But how many times have we heard that? I'm still waiting for Carlos Roca, Ryan Sugden and Brendy Glackin to come good.
Still, it would have been nice to at least try a few when there's nothing realistically left to play for.

I'm surprised Suzanne at the OT hasn't asked proper questions of the club instead of just copying and pasting the piece and merely raising doubts on line.

Can only assume some of you lot can't read cos there's nothing vague about that...
Suzanne just posted an update. Amazingly enough it isn’t as clear as that. Fondop, Gardner, Green and McGahey might be offered new terms if savings are made elsewhere in the squad (Nuttall and Willoughby mentioned). The others are definitely going. -
They've tweaked it, Chapman was missing before. No change to the headings though, which could be clearer.
-
Despite my earlier view, now I've reflected on it I think the story is deliberately obtuse.
There's no reason they couldn't have been more specific. They were in previous years, and other clubs are. So, I assume it's either poorly written, or was a deliberate choice.
It's a safe bet MM doesn't want to keep all those under contract, so it's not a stretch to believe he wants to keep one or two of those out of contract.

It's not showing up on the front page of the website (yet?) but the official Twitter account has a link to it.

That's my reading too, but it's a bit ambiguous.
I assume Llyton Chapman is gone too, his name not on any of the lists.

I think they just pressed the button too early. Presumably we’ll see it tomorrow.

There’s no legal requirement to have to ‘contribute’ anything. You’re appointed to it, initially by the shareholders or later by the existing board of directors. It comes with a whole host of duties, though I’m not up to date on Latics’ size and status and what difference that makes.
Directors’ duties
That said, in theory you appoint a director for a good reason. Skills, investment, succession planning. No idea what this chap brought to the table, but as a private limited company there’s no reason to expect it to be publicised.
