I have no problem with youth players coming through if there good enough, but I remember the mcnivens and tipson plus many many more that weren’t god enough. It’s too early to say the current crop will make it.

Agreed. The youth players actually have to be good enough. Although I always thought Scott McNiven got a bit of a raw deal, he was solid and unspectacular but better than other full backs with bigger reputations (hello, Michael Clegg!). Played a hell of a lot of games but suffered from lack of competition.

  2. McLaughlin is out of contract so we won't get a penny for him. Kyeremeh barely played so nobody will offer money for an unknown with a season of injuries.

I'd let Maouche and Gerrard go too, but that depends on someone wanting them and their undoubtedly non-trivial wages. I'd also let Davies, Amadi-Holloway and maybe even Clarke and Placide go, but again it's all academic unless somebody wants them. Paying up contracts wouldn't be cheap.

I'm exciting a few youth players to sign pro deals too. Maybe they'll go out on loan, maybe they'll get more of a chance with us in League Two.

  3. If I counted correctly, this season Sky showed 16 League One and 5 League Two games (plus the play-offs).  Coventry appeared once. Barnet got the most games (two). So it's not going to be a moneyspinner, really.

(Are there any other broadcasters showing EFL games? I didn't think so.)

  4. Has there been any announcement on which - if any - youth players have been offered or signed pro deals for next season?

It normally happens around the middle or end of April. I appreciate first team worries and an uncertain future may have delayed decisions, but if we're making decisions on first team players' futures surely the youth ins and outs will also have been decided by now?

Other than Hamer signing a pro deal I've seen no news.

  5. Current squad and contract date:

    Confirmed

    1. Daniel Iversen (season loan from Leicester City)

    14. Jonathan Benteke (2019)

    19. Callum Lang (half-season loan)

    21. Courtney Duffus (2019 plus option, on loan to Waterford)

    Released or left

    Aaron Amadi-Holloway (Shrewsbury)

    Ollie Banks (Tranmere)

    Jack Byrne (Kilmarnock)

    Craig Davies (Mansfield)

    Mason Fawns (Curzon Ashton)

    Anthony Gerrard (Carlisle)

    Paul Green (Crewe)

    Gyamfi Kyeremeh (FC Eindhoven)

    Patrick McEleney (Dundalk)

    Ryan McLaughlin (Blackpool)

    Kallum Mantack (Stockport County)

    Wilfried Moimbé (UNFP FC)

    Tope Obadeyi (Sochaux)

    Abdelhakim Omrani (Royal Excelsior Virton)

    Johny Placide

    Brian Wilson (Barrow)

  6. McEleney has taken the number 16 shirt from Menig (it's on the official website).

He's listed by the club as a striker but everything I've read says he's an attacking midfielder.

    Other first team shirt numbers:

    31 Harry Robinson (midfield)

    41 Ryan Scholes-Beard (midfield)

    49 Ned Dry (forward)

    50 Chinedu Uche (midfield)

All of the above are youth team players.

It's exactly what's happening. Unless like on August 31st, Wellens can do what Shez did and beg for a play or two of his own.

And having caught up on this topic....the fact we are offering out Ryan Mac on a free "to free up wages" is extremely fucking alarming. I know AL isn't promising to splash the cash but freeing up the wages of Ryan Mac who can't be on a massive wedge (and is capable if he can stay fit)...this is the sort of stunt Corney would be pulling. But I've got to trust that Simon Corney...he did say he would only sell to someone who could take us further. Just not sure which "further" he is relating to......

    8hrs to go...

Not sure that McLaughlin will be on that small a wage. And is he out of contract in the summer? I'm absolutely not comfortable with losing him, but if he's going anyway, is consuming a fair chunk of wages, and isn't setting the world alight in the remainder of his time here, I wouldn't be panicking.

Although there's a few "ifs" that make me very uneasy...

It’s missing the point singe. I’m not saying he has to play them or he’s fired. Your right, he would of gone by now. I’m talking about a hefty chunk of the squad never playing, and aren’t gonna play. Why? Because the manger doesn’t fancy them. Simple. That can’t be good for them, the manager or the club.

How is stockpiling footballers who aren’t good enough, a positive thing?

I don’t disagree with the general point you’re making, but couldn’t you argue we’d already tried stockpiling other players he didn’t fancy – Banks, Flynn, Osei, etc?
