A team won't win promotion on away wins alone. The home form has to be sorted and points taken at BP as well, which at the moment, would only be improved if they played behind closed doors. Imagine if the pandemic was on now, we would be top of the league. :D

Well if we finish 7th by winning all our away games then we will have 3 away games to get promotion..

Which OWTB opinion re Latics' season currently looks the daftest?  Was going to do a poll but can't see that option anymore?  Anyway, the understandably quasi-schizophrenic nature of the Latics fan has thrown up some belters so far this season.  Which is the best and worst of these?

We don't have a decent keeper on the books? - Hudson has done well. Happy with him. Poor opinion.

Fondop should never play for the club again?  - With hindsight, poor opinion, but I felt the same when he got sent off and cost us the game. (Solihull?)

Lundstram is the answer? - Desperate opinion accentuated by the Unsworth situation at the time.

Norwood's demeanour is in line with his ability? - I'd like to see him get a bit more excited - see Garner.

Unsworth deserves more time? - Poor opinion with a dash of hindsight. Never felt like a good fit for me at any point.

Signing a 35yo on an 18 month contract is tantamount to madness? - We shall see but looking like a poor opinion.

The budget has obviously all been spent? - I do worry we have spent above our budget - we shall see.

The season's over? - Terrible opinion.

Hogan's finished - I think most people were favouring Raglan and Hobson in a 4-4-2 until Hogan's recent form.

Green just isn't up to this level? - Jury still very much out for me.

McGahey is a midfielder?  - Did an effective job for a couple of games

I'm sure there are plenty more

Sorry Dave my instinct was to respond to this like a work email - albeit far more enjoyable. See embedded.

There's no evidence to support this, we generally struggle at home against the bottom teams or those in lower leagues, even going back to last season County and Wrexham struggled at BP and I think we'll beat Chesterfield at home as well this season, it's these Cup final teams we struggle against, Chesterfield have the right mentality and probably put more in to the games against the perceived smaller teams as Cooky knows they are the banana skins.

I'd certainly fancy us at a Barnet or Rochdale or Halifax, only team I can see doing us in the playoffs is Bromley.

The wheels are coming off at Bromley. Struggling with squad depth and have had to make 4/5 signings to plug gaps who will take time to gel. I still fancy us to overhaul them.

If one pass in ninety minutes is barometer for a contribution - yes he offered something. In my view one pass for someone of his supposed calibre and experience is nowhere near good enough.

Clearly made more than one pass. I just don't agree that he offered absolutely nothing that's all. Didn't play well granted but his first game for the club. Think we all need to chill a bit.

Yep, very high turnover of players never works. (QPR when Tony Fernandez first came in, Chelsea at the minute)  Players who have done well can become fringe players to the new signings. It’s hard to keep everyone happy and cliques form. Resentment builds- imagine being Fondop and watching Garner. He literally offered nothing. Mikey comes on and he at least looks a bit of a threat.

Apart from slotting in Norwood for a chance he should have taken to win the game.

Yeah not bad at all, Bromley still look too far ahead of us but stranger things have happened. It's weird to be feeling so positive after all that has happened, we are not playing well but the recent signings have really given me hope.

Sold Krauhaus to Brentford for a club record fee. Unfortunately he’s been loaned back!

Went to the Bromley game. Two very average sides. Bromley have done brilliantly to be where they are but a good chance they will fade as the squad isn’t massive. We need to target 2nd.

He usually puts his new signings on the bench. I don't know why when he praises them highly in training then starts the likes of the disappointing McGahey.

Aside from the Altrincham game McGahey has been poor in central midfield. Had a great game against Woking at centre half and should remain cover there. Although arguably i'd have him in ahead of Hogan as he has a decent left peg.

Just a thought, and I don’t speak for all Latics fans, and I don’t know how we’d go about it but why don’t we ask Dorking to donate the £1000 they are putting behind the bars in Dorking to instead donate to Franks cause. I’d certainly rather that than receive a free drink in a pub in Dorking.

Great idea - with a bit of luck he'll do both :)

Didn't like Hobson on the left of a back two, Hogan no rightback, McGahey- not seeing what others are particularly pushed in to midfield with no legs around him, Green doesn't want to be a footballer, Sheron is so limited, Hope is generally below average and should have been moved on, Hudson shipping over 2 a game, Willoughby, Dickinson, Ward, Freeman, Shelton, Gardner, Tollitt, Nuttall, Couto have all disappointed and I'd be looking to move on.

    Honestly I'd keep about half a dozen and they would be;

    Norman

    Kitching

    Hobson

    Raglan

    Lundstrum

    Fondop

    Norwood

    Maybe Reid and Sutton.

That's about a third of a squad that's cost us an absolute fortune to assemble with the biggest wage bill in the division.

No doubt about it some awful decisions have been made since the Rothwells came in and in any other walk of life heads would have rolled.

    Heads have rolled!

Assuming we're talking the National League promotion, I took a look at team that played Boreham Wood in the play off final, and discounted those that had either retired or were last seen playing for their local pub. It left these:

Oliver Norburn (Midfield) - 31yo Now captain at Blackpool. Rule him out.
Andy Cook (Forward) - 33yo Now at Bradford and a regular starter. Rule him out.
Josh Ginnelly (Midfielder) - 26yo Now at Swansea City. Out for rest of season after injury in September. Rule him out.
Connor Jennings (Forward) - 32yo Still at Tranmere. Seems an ever present but you never know, could be a swap for Nuttall for example. Seems very similar to Willoughby too so I'd rank this as unlikely.
Liam Ridehalgh (Left Back) - 32yo Now at Bradford and a regular starter. I doubt a replacement for Kitching is high on the priority list myelf. Rule him out.
Emmanuel Monthe (Centre Half) - 28YO Now at Northampton. Certainly don't need any central defenders and the big man is a firm ficture at Northampton. Rule him out.

So let's look at the L1 Play-off final team, with similar parameters.

Keiron Morris (Winger) - 29yo Still at Tranmere. Was quoted as saying "I love it here" in May. Virtual ever present in their side this season and Mellon was quoted back then as "He's the best player in the league". Unlikely, but could be a target next season.
Ollie Banks (Midfielder) - 31yo Now at Chesterfield. You've got to do some crazy mental gymnastics to expect Ollie to slap in a transfer request, leave the actual HMS Pisstheleague to come to the team who's fans were having Twitter rows with his dad.

Harvey Gilmour (Midfielder) - 24yo Now at Rochdale. Well, he wouldn't have to move far, after all. Signed a two year deal last summer and has played all season. I can't see us a) paying a big fee to prize him away and b) him leaving on loan in the middle of a play-off chase.
Ben Pringle (Midfielder) - 34yo Now at Fleetwood United in the UAE. Disturbingly, he seems the most likely candidate. Loads of experience, a creative midfielder and probably affordable on a short-term deal. He seemed a bit past it when he came on loan 5-6 years ago despite still being in his twenties but it was two divisions further up. Possible.

Saw Gilmour play for Dale yesterday. Very tidy player, keeps the ball and likes to pick a pass forward. Would definitely improve us.
