Home form used to be the factor that saved the Latics' bacon. If you look back to the mid-1970s, we had a pretty poor side that came very close to relegation from the old Div 2 in 1974/5 and 1975/6. The side was so poor in the last two or three months of 75/76 that they only won one of their final 16 fixtures. We failed to win a single away game in the former season, and lost 15 away matches out of 21 in the latter season, but only lost four times at home in 74/5 and twice at home in 75/76.

Such a contrast to the last 30 years (250+ defeats at home in league and cup games).

This is a massive issue, and has been for many years. Never properly analyzed and I don't think any of the conventional explanations really get to the bottom of it. Most people here know what I think, so I won't elaborate further, just to say that I think that statistics such as these are absolutely staggering, and should not be dismissed.

Get Frank to pee in all 4 corners before he goes off rowing.

Not for me. We haven't won anything in 30 years, I'd like to see us take the competition seriously, has to be our best ever chance of getting to Wembley in a cup competition. Use the squad but play a strong team, winning is a mentality, let's all have a day out at Wembley, we deserve it.

100% agree - Bromley won it 2 seasons ago beating Wrexham and have used it as a catalyst to kick on as a club in many areas.

    That’s that then. 😂😂

In my view- they head hunted Unsy and it didn’t work out. The ‘football people’ were at pains to describe the process, which is now in part-  DR ringing Micky touting the Job. Or in other words who DR rates.

It’s DR’s responsibility for hiring Unsy and Mellon- because he’s the ‘football person’. IF and I stress IF Mellon doesn’t work out- questions will be asked of DR- and rightly so. You can’t say- well don’t blame me we went through a proper process this time, when in fact you didn’t- and head hunted again.

You can head hunt and still go through a proper recruitment process.

Having watched the England match tonight here is a Sheron analogy for you.

Phillips played in midfield-was lucky to stay on after 2 bad tackles but this is basically all he did. No lack of effort yet almost every pass was a wall pass or went backwards BUT he was surrounded by better players who both covered and compensated for his weakness.

Can see why he struggles to get in the City side but is an almost automatic pick for England.

Can England win the Euros with him in the squad?

Phillips is not good enough for City. Sheron is not good enough for Latics.

What? Do you mean assume he wanted his old job?

My first sentence was that I wanted to know and then said normally when you temporarily take over another job your old job is still waiting for you to go back to.

I just thought he was fine within his own role and only stepped in to help out because Unsworth left. So that's what I want to know ,  what has changed to make him leave completely?

    Mellon wants his own staff?

When will people understand that as Head of Recruitment your job is to go find players that the manager wants.

Unsy wanted very limited footballers who could run. ST’s job is to provide the players to that criteria.

So ST was identifying players saying personally Dave i think he's crap but you go for it...
