Are we underperforming as a team. Everyone keeps saying all the players are shit

    Of course we are underperforming!

Apart from the obvious culprits, individually these players can’t all be shit but collectively, as a team, they undoubtedly are, and that has to be in some part, down to the manager.

In my mind after 6 months we should be able to at least be starting to see what a Mellon team is likely to look like……however, at this stage l have absolutely no idea!

It would undoubtedly help if he kept as settled a side as possible instead of tinkering with formations and personnel every bloody week!

We obviously need a few players in certain positions to improve us but he did say himself at the end of January that he was ‘more than happy with what he had yet these last few weeks have been a disaster!

He's always been very complimentary about us in his interviews saying we're a massive club etc - sure he'd jump at the chance if approached.

Unless he decides to quit I think we're going to find out if Mellon can take us forward next season. Can't be worse than this season can it?

    Who knows?

    Let's find out then

    Absolutely!!😂

I wouldn’t mind so much and would be willing to give him a fair crack of the whip if we were progressing and showing signs that he’s building something.

He’s only had 6 months admittedly but I just don’t see a plan, a style of play or even a settled system!

In the main they’re not his players but even the players he’s recruited haven’t improved things at all.

I’m willing to bet that the lions share of this squad barring one or two would do OK at just about any other NL side in this division!

We’re definitely under performing as a team and IMO it just doesn’t look like he has the remotest idea of how to rectify it!

Serious question…..If it was your money bankrolling this football club, would you trust Micky Mellon to spend it wisely?

    I’m not sure I would!

I'm not counting last season the club was in a total mess and a promotion challenge was never realistically on the table all that was realistically possible was that we consolidated and turned the sinking ship around.

I have to say, on the field of play we are still a mess, not a total mess, but nevertheless a mess!

It was only when I was looking at soccerbase how closely Mellon's run had mirrored DU's run from Halifax at home to the day he was sacked at Bromley. Five draws, three defeats versus four draws and three defeats.

    What are you saying exactly?😂

Wins man of the match and never plays another minute for us.

    Sums this season up.

More confusion!….we were playing 352 and Sachdev was signed because he’s a specialist in the position of RWB,  Mellon said so himself.

He has a MOM performance in that position and then is dropped, never to be seen again.

Since then we’ve played a couple of different players in that position including Sutton who is not really a FB and definitely not a wing back (sq peg in round hole) which was the reason we brought in Sachdev in the 1st place.

Now he says we still haven’t got a RB and Sachdev can’t play RB….. surely a RWB is also able to play RB?

IMO Sachdev played here as a FB anyway as I never saw him get up the pitch and go past a player even once while he was here!

I’m now so confused I’ve confused myself….it seems Mellon is confused too!😂😂

    Lundstram is showing green shoots.

Raglan had been dropped after a substandard start before Mellon came in, but is now probably the #1 pick at the back.

Hudson isn't everyone's cup of tea, but has made the #1 shirt his own.

Gardner (retire please) is probably playing at the top of his game - certainly better than what he was under DU.

Seen Lundstram have one decent game

Raglan has been OK but should be at this level

Hudson was No.1 pre Mellon so don’t think you could put that down to him

We know what Gardner is capable of when fit, he’s no better or worse than when he came in and is playing for a new contract.

he was given a summer to recruit his own players

If the board were in any doubt at all he should have gone in May.

If the same happens with Mellon we will be in deep shit!

We have a few players who obviously need to go but they’re not all incapable. I can’t think of a single player who has improved since Mellon came in!

I wouldn’t give him a blank cheque book…I would give him 2 or 3 signings for the key positions where we are lightweight but no more until he improves our play and demonstrates that he’s capable of moving us forward.

The Met office have a 15 min by 15 min timeline of the rain and although a rain free night tonight, its non-stop till after the game is finished...

I saw someone put on twitter the league rules for if a game cant be played. Im paraphrasing but it says that the league board will award a default 3-0 win to the away team and can issue disciplinary action, a fine, a deduction of up to 3 points from the host along with paying the away teams expenses. Says nothing about venue switching.

    See you all at Wembley?

If that ain’t an incentive to get the pitch playable nothing is!

Just to enlighten you, many players are signed these days on stats and past reputation not taking into account the most important thing of all, are they 100% fit from injuries which have prevented them playing for a long time so cannot have been currently scouted.

That probably applies to all Mellon’s signings….maybe he got lucky with Stones.
    I suppose 1 out of 7 ain’t bad!!😂😂

Truth is, no manager who doesn't come up with the goods here and fast, ever will.

Such has the ever lasting patience of the fans been tested

So….should we have stuck with Unsworth then?

I would back any manager that showed incremental progress, but Unsworth was going nowhere.

We are a huge club for this level and expectations are huge too and rightly so!

Mellon, for all his experience and cute CV, IMO, hasn’t improved us one iota.

Even allowing for our obvious deficiencies he should surely by now, be able to get 11 out of this squad of 32 players playing to a decent and consistent standard. Apart from a smattering of youngster’s these players are experienced pro’s who’ve done it before at this level and several in divisions higher up!

Out of the 6 players he signed in January non are regular starters and a couple can’t even make the match day squad!  We didn’t need squad players, we had enough of them, what we needed were players able to go straight in to the side and make a difference, otherwise, what was the actual point!

I really hope he comes good but IMO he’s done nothing to suggest that he will. If we are struggling around Xmas time and not firmly in the playoff places do we just stick with it?
