  1. Bury and Carlisle stick out as two games we should have won; so we would then be sitting in 10th with only draws and losses above us. I think 10th would be a reasonable position for the support, and hence budget, Dickov has. Just two wins away from 'there's only One Paul Dickov'. I like the graphic which also suggests that it is not a league of very similar teams. Given that we have won more away from home I'm not sure we can draw any comfort from having to play more of the top teams at home.

  2. The atmosphere follows the play. Donny fans so loud. Two missed chances later quiet with concern. Warbara goal and quiet forever. If Latics play like that you can't help but sing and shout. I agree that we should be able to stand and have areas in which to stand in the 'stand', not to increase the ground capacity, but because it is warmer and improves the atmosphere. Singers stand so why can't we?

  3. I was hoping a draw wouldn't mean a replay because to play them four times in 30 days is a bit much. I don't think the game is that crucial anymore as Dickov will survive and we will see a relegation battle whatever the result. If we do win, then I'd want a team we have a chance of beating in the next round and then either Man U or C away in the next - that way we get even more cash.

  4. "He continued: "Karl Robinson (MK Dons’ manager) told me Shrewsbury’s front four were the best they had played against so we knew we would have to be solid defensively."

So said PD post match. If a club at the bottom has such a good attack the mind boggles as to what PD will tell the team about a club in third place who just scored four. The best way to describe the way we play is solid at the back - 'constipated'.

  5. Firstly as last season went 'wrong' after we lost to Liverpool there is a case for saying 3 points is more important than the cup. Secondly as Corney will be really pissed off if we lose in the cup and might therefore relieve us of this awful style of football that PD and his team have developed 3 points would be better. But as a supporter - THE CUP. However I think it likely that we will get a draw on Tuesday and a win on Saturday before slumping into another run of losses as a result of this awful style of football that PD and his team have developed.

  6. There is no doubt in my mind that the team played as directed by PD. His post match comments prove this. So everyone should stop criticising Furman and Wes and the rest of the team for doing what they were told.

However you look at it PD has obtained another 3 points from a poor but solid display. It isn't what we want but it is what we are going to get until we go behind in which case there is a possibility that we might start to play.

There will be more of the same on Tuesday giving us very little chance of winning - a draw would be a great result for us. Given that Corney has made it clear how important the next home game against Donny is I suppose it will be more of the same!

  7. What I wonder do they do in their training which is so difficult to put into practice on the field of play. Simpson is a case in point. He doesn't lack effort but the end result just has not happened this season (this year). We have all watched games where the whole team is playing a long ball game when we know this only suits us when Smith is on (and PD doesn't rate him enough to start). Did they all decide to play the long ball against the wishes of the manager? I don't buy it. We have 17 points from 17 games. In the previous 23 we got 24 points. The team has been playing to a relegation standard all year. No wonder their confidence is so brittle. Whatever it is they are told to do it is not working. The manager must take full responsibility.

  8. I still see Baxter as a creative midfield player rather than a striker so I put him with Wes or Furman so Derbyshire and Smith can play up front. Mellor should come in at left back. I don't mind which of M'voto or Tarky plays with Byrne nor what combination of wingers we play. The problem however is will it be go out there and score more goals than them or go out and concede fewer goals.

  9. With the wages cap and the likely further reduction in attendance and income you can't buy your way out of league 2. We are already a league 2 side in a town large enough to support a Championship team.

I can't understand why anyone would want to build a new stand when the team is failing. The staff reductions and willingness to give PD more time all suggest that money is the problem. Can't afford to make a change and can't, as we see it, afford not to. Who would want to run a football club?

  10. I watched an Evo-Stik Division One North team, Mossley, play football yesterday and win 7 nil. They passed the ball, they shunned the long ball and they all knew what they were supposed to be doing. It was a lesson in what should be happening at Boundary Park.

The problem is that Latics give up trying to play football when things go wrong, because management concentrates too much on not making mistakes, and we see the long ball which only suits our team when Smith is in it - hence the improvement every time he comes on. You can give away goals if you are scoring but it is very difficult to win games by stopping teams scoring when you only score a goal a game - we are not an Arsenal of the north.

We need a change because that will have an effect even if it only lasts for five months. Does SC have the money to make a change?
