I wonder where this leaves them for next season though. Assuming the position with the ground stays the same, who's going to want to play for a team who literally aren't playing for anything. I feel really sorry for their fans.

Good point, go sign Greg Olley now then Micky, I know he's only 28 but he's some player and a leader.

Surely it should be Bromley that get the bye, given they finished the highest? And Solihull and Alty have to play each other...

Bromley (3rd) and Barnet (2nd) move straight to a home semifinal so they can't benefit anymore than that.

    Normally;

    4th plays 7th

    5th play 6th

For me Alty (4th) should get the bye and play Bromley away for a place at Wembley and Solihull (5th) should host Halifax (7th) with the winner playing Barnet away.

Saying that this is NL so anything is possible.

With all the shit that gets shouted at him and the players, it always surprises me when people get upset they give it back.

It's a fair point but I suppose the face of the football club should be showing a little more control or is it fair game now and everyone can get involved.

Players have been disciplined and we've not seen them since on the back of poor choices, are we saying the manager is immune from Company policy now and can behave like some of the weapons in the stands do?, I'm not sure that's a good thing.

But there's absolutely nothing to be gained from a near 15 minute rant saying the same thing over and over again. Either he thinks he has the skills to turn it round over time or he doesn't. Hard to think he has any confidence in his own ability to do so after listening to that.

It's almost as if he is demanding the club should listen to him as they did with Unsworth and spend money they don't have, if what he says is true and that's your group for next year then shut the fuck up and stop slating them publicly and crack on in making them better at their jobs which is ultimately what a manager is paid to do, get on the training pitch and earn your fucking money because lets get this right he's the best paid 'manager' in the division, (hard to believe I know). What's undeniable is this team can get results as they proved if you take away the book ends of the season, yes they threw some shockers in but that's NL for you.

I'm of the opinion now that it would be cheaper to move the manager on now, interview for the role and pick the best candidate based on interview, show them the squad they will have to work with and that would give someone a clean slate after what's gone on. Mellon has 18 players next season but only wants about 3 of them and that's an impossible task.

My final point on the matter is this, I didn't attend yesterday and don't sit in the main stand but have a friend who had a spat with Mellon, quite a mild mannered guy and basically all he's said is 'Micky stick Garner on and have a go at winning it', to which Mellon replied 'why don't you just fuck off' now I'm sorry but of this man is so up on discipline why does he think it's acceptable to behave in such a manner, it's little wonder we have disharmony in the dressing room because people are treated differently and a manager who can't control his emotions, we are not talking about giving a bit back here we are talking about a man whose chose to behave like that in front of women and children who should know better, he's gone down in my estimations after yesterday and really someone should be addressing his behaviour because it's bordering on unhinged.

Barking at fans doesn't end well generally and it's his job to quell that not fan the flames, he has an arrogance about him that doesn't serve him well and it's little wonder the players he 'trusts' have similar mannerisms.

Sorry but that's not what I want to see out of our manager, I don't care if your Pep Guardiola you shouldn't go around running your mouth off because you're having a bad day at the office and he's probably bringing the club into disrepute by doing so.

  5. Isn't ironic that the only players who you'd say acquitted themselves yesterday Fondop, Green and Gardner are the three Mellon doesn't fancy and has replaced them at the drop of a hat at every opportunity, I've posted on here about the importance of pace on the flanks and the ppg we pick up with Gardner in the team , both are solid NL players and  you could say 'specialists' in their positions so why were both regularly dropped and on occasions when fit not even making matchday 16's?.

No it's not going to be easy your right getting them off the books and it won't be as simple as them going somewhereelse for a third of the pay. Although I'm hoping their appetite to move will have changed after 4 months of idle time.

If as in a hypothetical scenario like you suggest we have someone on £900 a week and we have someone come in and offer £300 a week then maybe it would be best if we say you can go we pay them £600 a week for the next 12 months with the proviso that they can't play against us then that might be a deal we have to take save £300 a week and get an unproductive player out the door. It's those types of things we might have to consider.

If you do that for 4 players you can save enough for 1 player who might male a big difference to us.

I'd thought similar but once clubs find out your happy to subsidise they'll all be asking.

  7. Something we've not really discussed is how the National League will look next season, relegations/promotions have not been very kind to us as it stands we will lose.

    Chesterfield

    Boreham Wood

    Kidderminster

    Dorking

    Oxford

And one from Barnet, Bromley, Altrincham, Solihull, Gateshead and Halifax

    And gaining.

    Forest Green

    Sutton

    Tamworth

    Yeovil

Plus two others, one of which is guaranteed to be a trek.

On the face of it that's horrendous and potentially even more miles to travel.

He was outstanding, not seen a centre back pass a ball as good as him at this level.

It looks like he came into football very late, had he done earlier as a teenager he could have played at a very high level.

He's got a very well paid day job he's not prepared to give up so fair play to him.

Won't do our fanbase any harm to have expectations dampened a little bit. Boo the players on, off at half time, back on for the 2nd half, and wonder why they don't perform in a (for us) meaningless game? Maybe realising that a bit of patience is needed will make our support a bit less toxic.

Don't worry they'll be down to the 3000 crowds again soon enough.

Did the Athleticos have a protest today then?

Adams was one who came to mind as being a realistic option rather than someone who I would want.

Didn't realise Weaver was quite as old as that tbh, thought he was early 40s but he ticks plenty of boxes.

You've been making some sense lately until you put these two forward.

I think I'd be more worried if he tried to dress it up as being better than it is. The first stage of solving a problem is admitting their is a problem he can see what we see he's not blind or stupid.

John Sheridan was hardly inspiring in interviews he was often blunt and to the point and was always very honest if he'd been in charge he'd probably have given the same kind of interview.

A pretty clear message sent to the board to help him shift the deadwood and some of the players not able to get into the team to find new clubs. The likes of Ward Reid and Shelton have been sat on the arse doing rock all for the last 5  months or so find yourself a new club lads it will do knowone any favours sitting around collecting a wage least of all the players themselves find a new club boys it's for the best.

Only problem with that is this, a couple were due to go out permanently in January for no fee but they couldn't agree wages with their new clubs. Both were offered wages about a third of what we are paying, there is absolutely no chance those Mellon wants out are going anywhere unless the board want to pay out about 500k to get them off the books, it simply isn't going to happen.

Jack cook their centre back was in the fans bar after the game his Dad supports Oldham. Spoke to him he said we have no patterns of play. We are easy to defend against as you stop second balls we have no attack. Fondop hard to defend against as he’s unpredictable.

Said our midfield was slow and they would easy pass around it.

Shame he's a right footed centre back although I'd shift the other five out to bring them in.

We know what he's saying is true but much of it is down to poor coaching, a part time outfit played us off the park today and could of had seven or eight on another day.

    Mellon post match:
    “We looked knackered”
“They’ve all got contracts for another year”
    and the best one…
    “I don’t understand why people don’t understand”
    Plus

    “There’s more going on…”
    “We’re imbalanced”
    “ It’s what I inherited”
    Etc etc
And when the interviewer asked MM why the season had fallen to pieces, he denied it, saying we had played some top teams and accused Alan of “lazy journalism”
    😱

Behaved like an arrogant prick when he'd had the obvious pointed out. If he thinks that's the way to go with Oldham fans he won't get the ten games I predict next season.

  14. 28 minutes ago, daniel said:

We really do need to hear from the club in the coming weeks about the direction of the club in the short term (1 year). MM said we’re already over budget for next season, or did I miss hear that? Even after we’ll release 9 players or so? If that is the case, or even nearly the case then heads need to roll and difficult questions need to be asked immediately. Wtf am I buying a season ticket again for if we’re basically already being told it’ll be the same group of players who have failed this season, and therefore the same shit boring tactics. We’ll be back to 3000-3500 crowds again in no time at this rate. They announced 6000+ today, but there were way less than 5000 who actually turned up.

Be lucky if there was 4000 in there today, I'd say about 3,500 it was empty all over the place.

  15. Dear me Mellon is actually delusional if he thinks the season hasn't dropped away since Eastleigh, we were top of the form table prior but have since gone on an eleven game winless run which is up there amongst the worst in out history, it's not lazy journalism it's fucking facts, add to that team selections been a fucking raffle and he's employed tactics straight off Clayton playing fields, what's lazy is his inability to set a team up and keep sending them out to do the same mind numbing thing game after game. It's not difficult to see why he cant motivate given the way he's behaving lately, I'd probably down tools as well if I had to listen to that tripe day in day out.

Harps on about his impossible job but then crawls up everyone's arse, if you're gonna bleat like a bairn then at least tell us what your trying to say because it looks to me like he wants to blame every fucker but himself, he's almost making his position untenable with the stance he's taken the last couple of weeks and there has been absolutely nothing to be gained from the way he's going on if he's not looking to move on, all he's doing is making an impossible job even more difficult.

Of course there's shit going on but I have less faith than ever that he's the man to sort it out, for a start whose gonna play for him after the shit he's talked and I'm not spending a fucking penny whilst Captain fucking doom is in town.

Very worrying comments about next season and the budget

Glad he's alienated 60% of his squad then, terrific man management that Micky, particularly as the old fool can't be taught anything.

I suppose the playoff money, FA Trophy money and the other 40k we could have pulled off Chesterfield weren't needed then?

He has to hold his hands up with certain decisions he's made, but the rot runs much, much deeper than him. This is the point I suppose I'm really getting at.

As it turned out in the end, whichever formations, gameplans and team selections he tried, the players by and large were incapable of executing any one of them.

You mean the same players he's somehow got to inspire next season?, in a bit of trouble then aren't we.
